I have a set of Radio Kings with the original calf skins for the bass drum. I bought new calf skins for the toms & snare drum. I posted a video of that kit here on youtube. You can judge for yourself if you like the calf skin heads.
sweet kit. You should consider using the aquarian vintage heads. Those heads sound just like calf without all the problems. I have them on a old kent kit. sounds great. check out my vids. similar stuff.
Nice. I love the kit. Nice groove at about a minute in. Never tried the calf on my kit. What are the heads? Good tone from 'em. Do you plan on picking up a 13 to standardize it? Just curious. What's the year of the snare? I just picked up a Krupa snare for my Buddy Rich kit (lol). I have a matched snare, but it just seemed like the thing to do. Again...nice kit.
Thanks for writing. The heads are Remo coated Ams. A 13? Well, I prefer the
8x12 over a 9x13, and the 8x12 was appealing when I bid on the kit back in Dec. 2007.
The c-o-b snare is probably from '56 or '57before Sling began cataloging the drum as a "Krupa." Has a Chicago badge. Picked up a wmp Chicago-badge snare which you can see/hear in another clip "RKS." I tend to play the c-o-b most, and use a '40s 7x14 RK (see RKS clip) with my Gretsch 20-12-14 kit.
No I dont have a kit like that one with calf skin heads but I got a couple hundred bucks. Ill take that old crusty drum set off your hands.
