You can buy Logic Express which is like the demo version of Logic, but it's still 200 bucks. I guess the only other legal way of getting it is downloading it from a friend if he has the disk

Not necessarily. you can download Jam Packs for Garage band. As easy as he made it look< Logic pro is very complicated and takes a lot of time to learn. If you are begining, i would start off with garageband. you can also use Fruity loops and Pro tools!
