  • Whats the first song called?

  • 2124reading , "When the Reading Rode Again" by Charlie Adams, Sr.

  • @Conrail6370 Ok thanks.

  • Conrail6370,

I'm curious what you think about the Rambles paint scheme? I know that Jim Boyd, formerly of Railfan & Railroad wrote how much he disliked the yellow handrails and white driver tires. I don't think it was that bad especially compared to the way 2100 is painted and altered with the headlight arrangement in Washington state. I probably prefer the freight black paint scheme, but can understand why Reading painted them like that for excursion service.

  • I've never seen a T-1 in steam. I hope 2102 or 2124 returns to steam one day or that 2100 finds a new home. It would be miraculous if 2101 returned to service after the fire it was in in 1979, but doubtful.

  • I rwent on a Ramble with the 2124 to Gettysburg in 1959. I was only five at the time but the memory is indelibly etched. What amazing footage here.

  • My family lived in Jenkintown, PA in the early '60s, and my late father, who was a devotee of steam locomotives, took me on three or four of the Iron Horse Rambles. Somewhere I have an old b&w photo, taken by me with a Kodak Brownie camera, of 2124 on one of the Rambles. I'm a couple of years younger than you are, and you're absolutely right about how indelible the memories of those rides are.

  • 2100 is a shadow of its former self. Reworked to burn oil its whistle sounds like its dying, and it never goes more than what - 15 mph? The red paint and ridiculous latin inscription have just ruined it

  • O man...dont even get me started on this again. All I can say is I hope whoever had the idea to turn a beautiful, perfect, Anthricite burning T1 into an oil burner dies a horrible, slow, and painful death by insect infestation to the genitals. Whats been done to 2100 is unforgivable. 2100 is dead, that poor F40 is gonna be dead soon too from doing all the work.

  • Great find, Len. Thanks for sharing.

  • I thought the song was a fitting one for this film.

    Thanks for stopping by,

    Len.

  • this is acient and memory grabbing video. Not to mention quite rare. Shame that the T1's have now disspeared into the growing fog that shows no end..

  • Well there are still four T1's there just sitting around collectting duct though. 2124 is at Steamtown NHS , 2101 is at the B&O Museum, 2100 is in Washington state, and 2102 is at Port Clinton, PA.

    Len.

  • Thats what i mean, but they're all sitting dead, not moving or seemingly having a chance to run again.. Its something that the Reading needs to have back. The T1's were a giant chunk of the history and is still today, except these beauties are now sleeping, maybe for good

  • actually #2100 is currently operaten

  • Really!?!? WOW! I'd most certainly have to see that someday

  • its in washington im pretty sure i have film of it il see its really big and in good shape

  • You know, I wish Andy Muller would restore 2102, I mean soe is the closest to the original Reading lines, but oh well, you gotta love the brute power of the Reading T-1's.

  • Wow, Len. This is gold. Really nice footage here! Thanks for sharing this.

    Kyle

  • not only gold, but very rare too, I bought five blackhawk films off ebay and this one was on a reel not marked. I got lucky this time.

    Len.

  • Well Len you got real lucky, I was on this trip age 11, i belive i may have missed 9 or 10 of the IRON HORSE RAMBLES, that was what they were called, my father shot miles of 8mm film, and it all went to hell, take very good care of it maybe put it on dvd, i am new to this you tube but i have a lot of knowledge of the Reading R.R. and the T1s, I lived in philadelphia in lawndale, seen the T1s pulling trains when they were still in service in the 50s i think i am running out of space. Thanks.

  • Do you still have the 8mm film? Sometimes it can be reworked.

    Len.

  • No Len i do not, my older brother has them, have not seen him in 12 years, if i get my hands on them i will post them on you tube, he also has many pictures from the rambles, priceless items, but i would love to share them with everybody interested. Take care......

  • Well I think it's time to men the fence and see if you can get your hands on thoses film before its to late!

    Len.
