  • this guide is good but, came to late, i found a web hosting webclo.com i've bought a hosting plan with them and they made a fully instalation of Joomla for me, my site is working perfect now.

  • Thanxxxx Alot....

    Really useful.........

  • Anxiety problems? Panic attacks?

  • Should I remove the Fantastico text file in after the Joomla installation or not? Would it create problems for future upgrades? Are there more problems using Fantatico? Alex implied that by warning us, didnt he?

  • I dont have any web or anything . Tell me how to install joomla without going on Cpanel. Is there any setup or something

  • wow

  • Well understood Alex! But i have this prblm; ho to upload your joomla wbst after u hav finished your design on your PC. Pls could u shed more light on this?

  • You COULD do it all manually, but just use the JoomlaPack extension. I must say here that I have never actually moved a Fantastico installed Joomla instance and so I don't know how or even if that will affect it - yet another reason Fantastico scares me.

  • Hi alex,

Could I ask what is the difference between using fantastico or manually installing through Cpanel?

    Thanks.

  • If you install through fantastico, joomla becomes much more coupled with fantastico and is more difficult to upgrade later. Also, fantastico tends to add files that it uses to keep track of what version of joomla you have. Removing these file(s) can cause serious problems. More than anything, I say installing manually is best because you will have a better understanding of how it is configured under the hood which will be invaluable if (when) something goes wrong.

  • very very useful... thanx man!!! give u 5*

  • Hi Alex,

Can you use fantastico to upgrade from joomla 1.0 to joomla 1.5?

My site has been working find until my host updated there server, now i cant upload any files, folders or images etc, my host tell me "as far as we can see, nothing on the server is causing these issues with your installation, the errors look like code issues from within joomla" I am new to this and dont know were to start! I thought upgrading would maybe solve this problem? any advice?

    Cheers.

  • Nice and clear... Thanks

  • Coo, you using tor? My ISP (shaw) I THINK stopped tor access because it no longer works for me :(

  • not actually :D btw did you like the results :D

  • yes, good stuff ;) not the kind of thing many people know how to do. I used to use tor/privoxy/foxyproxy/refreshevery for the same effect, but never really di the youtube thing. I just liked knowing that I COULD do it. autohotkey comes in handy for this kind of thing to. I even made a C# DOM manipulator to automate click-throughs (but that was before I realized that autohotkey was easier). I'm amazed if you managed to do this without a proxy like tor. Did you?

  • well..not actualy..

using tor takes alot of time to do have eveen 1k hit. lets make it clear.

it is a well made script. yop load good proxies to it and it uses them automaticly...then you got the views :D

  • yeah man i realy enjoyed.thanks for great tutorial..i will do a favour to you...it is about a 1 year year that you uploaded this video and it has 4.200 view.. 1 day after my comment pls check your view :D

  • so let me get this straight... installing manually gives you more features compared to the quick install with Fantastico?

  • No, the features will be the same, BUT...

1)often the fantastico version offered by your host is not the most recent

2)a fantastico installation is "mananged" by fantastico after installation and so more difficult to upgrade later

3)Deleting the files left over from a fantastico installation (IF you delete a fantastico instantance) can sometimes difficult and so files get left over

  • PLUS, like I say, when you install manually you have a much better understanding of how Joomla works, how to get out of trouble when the time comes (the time will come), how to install Joomla anywhere including hosts that do not offer fantastico or a suitable version through fantastico, and you will have a sense of accomplishment rather than just running a script.

  • simple and to the right point good man

  • Thanks Alex.

  • Im from Colombia so sorry for my english.

Your video its so clear and usefull...im using 000webhost...I never had used joomla...so im your video help me a lot

    Thanks!!!

    Saludos desde Colombia!!

  • 000webhost has a "fantastico" autoinstaller for Joomla, but only 1.0.15, not the new Joomla 1.5. Joomla 1.5 can only be installed manually on 000webhost, which takes some skill and a few tries. I have a video that shows how to install joomla 1.5, but even with the video lots of people run into problems. Most people still use jooomla 1.0 anyway, so if you are new to joomla you might prefer to use the "fantastico" autoinstaller and use joomla 1.0.

  • Great video!

Realy was a great video i couldn't imagine a better way to explain.

SO we don't need to use xampp or wamp to download joomla. In otherwords i don't have to install joomla to my local server i can just directly install it to my remote host, correct?

If yest than why do the makers insist that we do it the complicated way?

    Thanks in Advance:)

  • No, you do not need to install Joomla locally at all: install and administer on your host. YOu can install with Fantastico or simimlar auto-installer if your host has one, but I encourage you to install manually for various reasons. It IS a good idea, however, to have more than one Joomla installation so you can test not on your main site, and a XAMPP/WAMP installation is good for this because of it's relative high speed, but you could also use a free host, or a subfolder on your main site.
