The reason his voice is the way it is in the video is because he is 2 inches from a microphone in a room the size of a cracker jack box. He can't sing at the same level he sings at in a concert or studio recording. Go see them live and see if he can't hit the notes. If you have been to a concert then you know he can sing his own lyrics. One of the best live bands ever!

Love his voice. and also the whole thing of every one saying smoking is the reason for a voice to be bad. okay a little bit. but I have done lessons with Melissa cross and smoking isnt going to make ur singing voice bad or good. one of claudio's problems is the breathing. its not bad from the smoking, its because he doesnt use proper breathing techniques when he sings. acid reflux will mess ur voice up no doubt. claudio needs some lessons for breathing techniques.

Yeah. Love Claudio and Coheed&Cambria. But he has to choose the happy middle ground in these live performances. If he kept his range like he does at the "the words you scribbled on the walls..." parts it would have sounded amazing. But he goes high like he used to, and it turns into a whisper. He's not 20 years old anymore. haha. Either way, it's awesome though.

Actually his voice sounds like this most likely because these live radio shows happen extremely early in the morning. It's difficult to sing in all ranges of your voice when it's 8 or 9 o clock in the morning.

I absolutely adore Coheed's acoustic tracks. I 'm not a big fan of their last two albums, but I love love love it when they perform the songs in acoustic! I more so enjoying PFI, and Shabutie songs, that's just me. I don't think his voice is off too much, and when exactly are people 100% all the time with their singing abilities? Unless of course they're using autotone. I'm praying their new album is more like their old stuff! I do adore these guys. <3

yeah last i heard Claudio smoked, he quit for a while to try and help with the acid reflux but he started again when they went to meet Mic after his rehab, apparently Claudio was so nervous about meeting him that he started smoking again, dunno if he still does smoke but thats the last thing i heard about it

Claudio's voice has always been off and on due to three main factors:

1. He smokes- may not affect some people very much, but it certainly doesn't help

2.He has acid reflux, which is probably the main reason his voice isn't 100% all the time.

3. Between touring, and recording/writing new songs he is really working his vocal chords. The stress his voice must go through is pretty intense, and the fact that he has to do it while smoking AND have acid reflux is incredible

i've noticed, he has a terrible falsetto. It gets cut off and half sounds like a whisper, but he has no problem whatsoever singing these higher notes. Kinda blows my mind but kinda turns me off to their acoustic performance. Other than that it's amazing, i love how they changed the guitar intro to feature part of the lead with the rythym

... To be honest... Smoking doesn't change your voice that much. I've been singing since i was a kid, and i went to music school and i had vocal training (As i am a singer mainly). I've been smoking for about 5 years, and those 5 years were the ones that i made the most progress. Even my vocal coach smoked, and believe me, she has an amazing vocal range and an absolutley stunning Jazz voice. And she wasn't affected by smoking. But then again, i'm might vary from person to person.

He whispers because the notes are slightly out of his vocal range. If a singer doesnt warm up well enough those notes are really hard to reach.
