I knew a lot of people in the anime community would be talking about this, but I knew the insane gamefreak would be the most calm and informative and I was right, thanks yo, your a shining star in this so-called anime youtube community. About Bandai US, I'm a wait and see type of guy plus, if there is money to be had, someone WILL fill the void. Fans getting upset--some of you should think about joining a localization company or starting your own (your all so passionate), if your into business
It's really sad for me, most of what I actually buy is from Bandai, and on top of that their one of the few companies with consistently good dubbing, and I know lots of people will say "Oh just watch subs, the jap voices are better anyway," but I personally feel that unless the dub is unbearable subtitles take something away from the show, I'm doing more reading than watching, and I'm missing out on the visual aspect. Hopefully someone new comes along with the quality that Bandai had.
Also, I was looking forward to Gosick as well (Saw the whole thing on CR, awesome show.), though Bandai going under basically saddens me more.
Also it should be noted, the stuff they have out now, they'll only keep that in print until the licenses expire, so we all best get what we want from Bandai as soon as possible. Still, such a shame to see this happening after them being around for like 13 years.
Personally I'm frustrated and saddened by this for so many reasons that 500 characters can't fit. It's truly a shame to see this happen, but it goes to show how various things are affecting the industry, and making this happen (Piracy, economy, people refusing to buy singles even though they make more money, etc.).
BTW, any chance we'll see other Anime Real Talk TV members's thoughts on this? This is a much bigger deal than with Tokyopop, and is going to really affect the industry.
Yeah man this is terrible news the R1 Anime/Manga Market is getting smaller and smaller and most of Bandai's anime Releases new and old will always be legendary in my opinion.
if the japanese are gonna put subtitles on their stuff then ill import it cuz i hate dubs but i want to buy the dvd releases not only to support the series but because i make amvs and dvds offer the best quality to work with, so if theyre gonna do that the american industry for anime can go under but not manga, that would be HORRIBLE Dx
fucking piracy man fucking fans say there huge fans and love there series but they don't support them by buying the DVDs well this is what happens people.
We all need to start supporting the industry more so more companies with more series don't start to make cuts. I'm kind of sad because Gurren Lagann, Geass, and Bebop are some of my favourites. I don't support the industry enough so I am partially at fault.
The Only anime iv'e recently watched from Bandai that i can remember was Haruhi so i'm not really disappointed. And that series trolled me in season 2 so i wasn't exactly looking forward to more episodes. lol
thats a sick ass animation really cool and agreed FUUUCK!!!!!! DX
I was friggin waiting for gosick to come out!!
Seriously, this shit is getting to serious...
But who the hell calls themselves a fan without buying some manga/anime??
If you can't buy because of 'stupid social reasons', then do something like buy manga online!!! Or get a premium with chrunchyroll!!! Theres no peer pressure in that!!!
I agree Bandai always sucked. I bought the 1st volume of Gundam Unicorn on Blu-Ray on sale for $30. What I didn't realize until after I got it was it was only 1 episode at 30 minutes. Plus the normal price was over $50. What the hell? Bandai never realized we aren't Japan and won't pay $100 for 2 or 3 episodes per disc. Glad they are gone. Hopefully their properties will go to companies who know how to release anime in North America like Funimation.
@Carnage6X Wrong Bandai, the company responsible for the Unicorn Blu-rays is Bandai Visual in Japan (who is still alive & well) plus those discs are being released at the same time as Japan which is the similar to Aniplex USA's releases of Garden Of Sinners, Fate/Zero & the Rurouni Kenshin original OVA & movie Blu-rays.
The Bandai here were responsible for the 2-episode DVDs that were coming out and the 3rd volume (with episodes 5 & 6) have now been cancelled because of this news.
@NJ973201 I'm aware of that. I was using it as an example. Most of their series are rip offs until they are out many years. Look at Gurren Lagann. $50 for one movie? I don't think so. The regular episode sets were insanely expensive until they finally put out a complete collection just recently. No wonder why they weren't selling anything. If they had tried to market to the NA market instead of treating their stuff as rare and expensive they might actually have made some money.
@Carnage6X The Gurren Lagann movies were released by Aniplex USA & yeah, i didn't like that deal either especially since they made the Parallel Works OVAs exclusive to the more expensive limited editions.
As for the TV series, very true and it certainly didn't help matters when Bandai first released the show sub-only just to rush it for sub fans who have waited for the show since ADV's failure to release it here (since they had it first & even made trailers for it).
this really sucks for me since haruhi is my favorite series was really hoping for a third season! and the second season of K-ON! plus the movie! and the lucky star spinoff manga and i've been wanting to check out code geas for a while now i guess i should go ahead and pick it up now before they go out of print this is just really sad! the industry has to get better or eventually there will be no anime industry!
@antrite08 Man i think for haruhi we are fine, its one of my favourite series too but it is so popular in japan as well as the rest of the anime watching world. If funimation is smart, which they usually are, they will pick it up for distribution as well as dubbing.
@antrite08 Also Funimation usually has a way of bringing in more money and advertising better to anime fans if they got it they would create more haruhi fans as well as maybe bring in more money for the animation studio so we could get the next haruhi movie. (Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is my favourite anime movie, if this happened I would be so freaking happy!!!).
@XxVicistxX you and me both the more haruhi fans the better lol! i know these shows like haruhi lucky star k-on! aren't for everybody but still! and it pisses me of that only days after the Disapperance movie came out it was already uploaded to youtube and other sites i'm not gonna lie i was so tempted to watch the movie online but so glad i waited for my dvd made the wait that much more special!
@antrite08 I'm a bad person and watched it online because I just couldn't help myself, but I still bought it after so I guess it's ok. I know for a fact however if they make another haruhi movie im gonna watch it subbed online first because i wont be able to wait but then i will buy it here and watch it again dubbed (because i love crispin freeman, johnny yong bosch, stephaine sheh, michelle ruff, and wendee lee!) haha
@antrite08 OMG im so jealous!!!, iv never been to a con, i really want to go to one, the closest one that happens to me is in toronto which is 6 hours away so i would have to book a hotel, but you need to be 18 to book one and when the con happens i will be 17 and 10 months.
@antrite08 lol i also noticed we are like the same person because your second favourite anime according to your channel is Clannad/Clannad after story which is my favourite anime!
I for one am not to sad about the dubbing thing cause most anime I've seen suck when they are dubbed most newer series don't amaze me at all to be honest I feel the voice actors don't put enough effort into the voices save for V.A.'s like Chris Sabat,Crispin Freeman, Vic Mignogna, and Steven Blum, I feel like Johnny Young Bosch aside from Trigun and Wolf's Rain isn't that impressive and talented while Crispin Freeman, Vic Mignogna, and Steven Jay Blum always seem to impress me no matter what
@orichalcossaiyan You can still buy it for the subbed version too, most releases are dual audio and I DO agree with your point that some dubs suck, I'm sick of Funimation's dub releases they use the same god damn voice actors in every little thing they pick up and I'm for one sick of it. Viz Media on the other hand has never let me down, Bandai voice actors have always been unique and one of a kind to me, haven't seen too much from them though so I can't fully be the judge for that. Sucks though
@orichalcossaiyan haha those are the three guys that i watch dubs for, everything else is subbed for me. (but I do hold a place in my heart for Johnny Yong Bosch and Greg Ayers aswell)
@NJ973201 I live in the UK and as a result dvd/blu ray sets take longer to launch here, so it's not available here yet. Thanks for the heads up though didn't know it was already dubbed.
