Only as a cop car? Humm, it's so nice... what a waste. Would have been nice to see it make it's way into Buick's new line-up like in China. Not likely now, that would be an image killer for a brand like Buick. Nobody paying big bucks wants a service vehicle. Although I think, it would have made a nice replacement for the aging Chevy Impala. Chevy is a brand that has been known for cop cars and can still get away with selling a zillion of them to the general public. GM needs to rethink that!!

Holden,Opel, Pontiac,Chevy,Cadillac, Vauxhall...etc etc. .What does it matter? They're all engineered by GM who call the shots world wide...GM had way too many brands in North America...It made sense to kill some off given today's automotive industry. The G8 will likely make it's way into the Chevy line-up. Holden sells the Cruze, so does Chevy, and so does Opel in Europe, and Gm Korea. Holden will soon sell the Malibu, which Chevy already sells...it's how GM does things.

The G8 will be the Chevrolet Caprice, but that model will be available to law enforcement only. Regular customers may only be able to get the cars once they are retired and auctioned off.

Well, for the first, that's not a very compelling reason in a business sense except in how it may affect the image of the company, which wasn't much as they had to be bailed out.

As for Buick doing well in China, that's China. GM could continue Buick in a market where doing so made sense whereas Buick, up until recently, wasn't nearly as competitive as the competition they were aiming for within North America (Lexus, Acura).

Buick was also in the same position as Pontiac with lack of relevance and identity, except the G8 provided Pontiac a step further forward than Buick in that regard back then.

It's only recently that Buick could be taken more seriously in the entry level luxury market with positive reviews over vehicles such as the LaCrosse and the Regal (so shutting them off now isn't an option at this time; the conditions have changed between now and the time I made my previous opinion).

Well, you can't satisfy everyone, nor should you try as you'll end up with a car that pleases nobody.

Nothing wrong with not liking this car; there will be people who may not care for it for perfectly valid reasons.

@Watcher3223 Yeah. The monaro and the commodore. Holden axed the monaro in 2006 due to low sales in australia :( If you like the G8 then you should see Holden's sports brand, HSV. Check out the HSV E SERIES 3 GTS. Blows the G8 away.

Yeah, although I think a good idea would be the option to order such a car as a Holden instead of as a Chevrolet at Chevy dealers. Not likely to occur, but that would be nice.

True car lovers in Australia "rev heads" hate them doing it because they beleive they are ruinning the car. I agree with them because it will confuse american tourists.

Actually, if this is the kind of car you'd want, you should still consider it.

Particularly if the same car is going to be re-christened as the Chevrolet Caprice so there may still be a source for factory parts and service for quite some time for this mdoel.

just because pontiac is shutting down doesnt mean anything. You'll still be able to get full coverage from GM and parts will always be available. I own this car and it's completely awesome

@chese0000 If u want one so badly you could just import the Holden Commodore (the g8 is one). Holden are exporting the commodore again in the next year or two (to be sold as a chevy) so u will be able to get one.

As for me, I tend to like cars in general and, to be frank, all the makes you mention make some great cars as well.

As for one car I'd like: a certified used 2005 Audi A8. An 05 instead of a new model because I don't care for Audi's fishmouth grill, the 05 had the standard wheelbase available, and the age of the car gets over a big part of the car's depreciation.

Can't think of a NEW BMW in the same price range with the power output of this G8! You may hump the interior or your car, but I don't...so interior plastics aren't a big deal to me. And are you seriously comparing this car to Bentley, Benz, and Mass? I'd like a nice interior myself, but that's just part of the experience and, sometimes, not necessarily the most important one.

However, I've found the interior of the G8 to be adequate. It's nice enough and, as you say, the G8 GT offers bang for the buck. Simply, you get a car with guts and driving poise for less money.

It's a pity that Pontiac is being phased out but hopefully this car will continue to live on as the Chevrolet Caprice.
