  • our vanilla extract is brown as well so is cinnamon... I dont think you should have put cinnamon in but hey if it taste good who cares what color it is!!

  • you have inspired me to make red velvet cup cakes, I have been looking for fine sprinkles so that after I frost them I can stencils with sprinkles. It really cool I saw in a book at a craft store.

  • Anna, just cause you don't have two cupcake holders doesn't mean you can't do them in two batches. Just cook the first batch, and when they're done, take them out and do another batch. That way you'll get more, instead of oversized ones.

  • @Maryzinha0365 The only part of farenheight I understand is that 100 is roughly body temperature, other than that it always sounds as though the temperature is always being exaggerated to way hotter than it is :P

  • They look yummy! Cinnamon is brown here in the U.S. :) I actually LOVE red velvet cake...but my son doesn't tolerate red food coloring (or any, really) so I never make it.

  • @ljatwood1972 You can replace the red food dye with the juice from beetroots :) There's a good few recipes that use it, it should have no effect on the taste :)

  • Anna, in the netherlands we also have vanilla sugar so you don't have to at the vanilla extract.. but the cinnamon would probably still make it a little brown..

  • You mentioned cutting calories & reducing the fat in your cupcakes by using light cream cheese in the frosting. Another really easy way to do that is by using fruit/vegetable puree (a great way to use up leftover apple sauce or pear/carrot/pumpkin baby food) or ricotta cheese to replace some or all of the oil/butter in the actual baked good. You should try it and let me know what you think :D

  • @PrimosTV1 eggs are usually used just to hold things together, so if you can find something else that does that you'd probably be okay to substitute

  • Lol, no cinnamon and vanilla extract is not white in the US. Its the same color. Usually, the cream cheese frosting is white! and usually not drippy. But the cinnamon sounds like a nice added flavor.

  • Hey Anna. I don't have two muffin tins either. So what I do is fill it once put it in the oven, take the muffins/cupcakes out and put them on a cooling rack, then fill it again.

I need to check out those silicone cupcake holder things!! :) Oh mi gosh, one time, idk what i was thinking, but i started to frost the cupcake right when they came out of the oven, and yeah, it was a huge mess with the icing meling and sliding right off!!

  • The recipe doesn't call for cinnamon on the website, but that does sound delicious. Many cupcakes do call for cinnamon glazes. Definitely beat the frosting next time if it calls for it, for a fluffy texture.

  • YUM!! I haven't had Red Velvet in soooooo long. I don't care what the icing looked like, it looked really good to me. I think Jofus thought so too! LOL With his icing all in his beard. Cooking just takes practice and no matter how long you have cooked you learn something all the time. You will do fine. I hope you enjoyed your cupcake too!   • I was doing exactly the same for the last few days. Once I start watching baking videos online I can't stop and then have to bake it myself. This week I found, believe it or not, red velvet cupcakes recipe and wanted to make them this weekend. Btw, I never heard of them before so it was so exciting thinking about making them.   • Hmm, if I put vanilla in frosting I use just a little to keep it white. There is such a thing as clear vanilla but I've never used that before. Also, I only have one cupcake pan too. I make one batch and then a second batch. :)

  • hey anna! these look yummy! tip:you should spoon your flour into the cup instead of scooping. this way you don't over pack your flour!

  • Here in America our vanilla essence is brown.  However, at the supermarket there are different types. For your frosting to be white you need to use the Clear Vanilla Extract. Cute video!

  • great video anna! however the reason the frosting turned brown was you didn't use a bowl mixer which would have added some air into it to make it fluffy like frosting then add the vanilla and cinnamon after that and lightly mix to keep the air in. I'm a food network nerd but wanted to let you know for next time. But I'm sure no matter what its still so yummy love them!!!

  • I made my first Red Velvet Cake in Home Ec in the early 70's!! Love them! Love your sweater! We call them Paper baking cups. LOL We used something like 3 bottles of red food coloring in our cake!! Unreal. LOL Anna, you and Jofus are so cute!

  • The cakes look delicous - but just a pointer, I think the icing went very runny because of the philladelphia you used. I often make these cakes - and from all recipes I have used, full fat cream cheese should be used to make a frosting which is thick and like the photogrpahs :) I know it is more unhealthy, but if you want to make them traditionally then I would advise this! Anyhoo love your videos xxxxxx

  • Anna, here is a tip next time you bake cupcakes................use an ice cream scooper to fill the muffin tins! It makes it so easy and a lot faster:)
