Look, if the U.S. early warning system detected an incoming "bolt out of the blue" attack consisting of 1 missile to 5 missiles which was not preceded by a period of international tension or a crisis or conventional conflict somewhere else in the world, the president would certainly wait for the warheads from the missiles to impact prior to ordering a retaliatory strike. Launch on Warning would only be utilized if there was a massive attack detected.

Nuclear winter is disproven hokum - it was cooked up by Sagan and others to pursue their policy goal of unilateral disarmament in the face of massive Soviet arms. Remember the Gulf War, and how all the oil fires were going to lead to a terrible, cold winter because of smoke-never happened. Even the direct effects from the initial burst radiation and fallout are being exaggerated here. Societies could survive even a large scale nuclear exchange-not end of the world-think 19th Century existence

The "expert" said 20 nuclear devices would create enough debris to blot out the sun - that's nothing but hyperbolic scare-mongering, there is none, zero evidence that would happen. There have been dozens of atmospheric tests of nuclear weapons - how much sun blocking occurred by those - uh.......none. One or two or dozens of nuclear weapons do not contaminate everything - it would take thousands, or tens of thousands

these same weapons have kept the peace among the superpowers for nearly 70 years. Remember before the bomb how it was. We had a world war every few 20 years. And I am not just talking about the one in 1914- 1918 or the 1939-1945. What about all the other world wars before that. The Napoleonic wars, the wars of Lois XIV, the 100 year war, the crusades, the Mongolian wars, the Islamic wars of the 7th century and God knows how many other wars there have been before the bomb. Now we have peace.
