@6dark6wings6 I also love the beatles but the supremes a little more :D
However I like their version of this song Diane sings it a little soft but nice but flo and mary added this little catchy backing that gives a little soul back into the song.
It's just sad that a studio version of 8 days a week wasn't included to the album.
You saw the live performence of this song and 8 days a week? :)
@Individuell83 AMEN!!! Since there MAY NOT BE a studio version of "Eight Days A Week" They should AT LEAST clean up, and remaster the live version from Shindig, where for the 1st and LAST TIME EVER you would see all 3 ORIGINAL Supremes share a lead on the same song, on a TELEVISION SHOW!! What a unique GEM!
Love the album cover. Nice tribute to a group that was influenced by Motown itself. I grew up in Motown and didn't even know this album existed??? ~lol. Wondering who the backup band was?
lol yes I think the supremes sing country western and pop and a bit of liverpool and maybe also the "we remember sam cooke" album were never that famous... compared to the A GO-GO album or the supremes sing holland dozier holland.
A really great and groovy cover. A wonderful contrast between the delicate style of Diana's lead and the more soulful wailings of Florence and Mary. On so many of the Supremes recordings, the back-up vocals are muted in order to let
Diana shine. On this record, Florence and Mary are heard strong and clear and it's a much better record for it.
especially on the early albums they were not turned down that's why I especially love the where did our love album all those harmonies on the songs and you can hear every voice not like in the later days...
@mrlarryb818 all tracks with a prominant back up by mary and florence are the best. look out on here for the motown story version of you keep me hanging on its the original version with flo and biana sharing leads and so much better than the released version
This cut reverberates the amnbience of those times. It has real grit. It feels like Detroit about '65. And it feels like London did too. Mod boots and groovy shakin' ;-)
This is a really good version. This is like a girl versus boy version of the song. I think it really holds up against the Beatles version. This is more smoother, calmer like a girl would be and the Beatles' version is more rockish and angrier? like a boy would be.
lol yes I think you're right I like the supremes version but also the beatles version but I think this is one of the best songs from the supremes a bit of liverpool album I really like flo in the background she makes the song sounding a bit harder next to diane's lead and mary's alto
By the way, this is one of the Beatle's songs that I really liked. But I personally believe the Supremes added something 'extra' to the song. I like it better that the Beatles' version. (That's b/c I believe the Beatles were great... but hugely overrated)
@MADxSQUAD It's hard to explain, but the best way I can answer it by saying if you had lived through "Beatlemania" of the 60s, you'd understand. No musicians or groups could live up to the hysteria offerred them at the time.
The Beatles were as much an historical phenomenon as they were a musical one. They were simply the right group, at the right moment during the right time. I personally never understood their popularity then, and I don't today.
@MADxSQUAD: A band certainly can be overrated. I'm NOT saying that The Beatles were overrated necessarily, but there are many bands from the 60s and 70s which have become overrated because critics' opinions about them being SOOOO great have become culturally entrenched, to the point where any divergent opinion is almost considered "blasphemous".
This only worsens over time, as it becomes harder and harder to challenge views which have prevailed for several decades.
@MrDennyman i love The Supremes, but hahahaha "you cant do/say that" that the beatles are hugely overrated hahahaahah that 's good stuff you should do stand-up.....The Beatles my friend are BIGGER THAN MUSIC itself just like Muhammad Ali was in boxing and that is not an opinion.
@1west72ndstreet Oh, I can most certainly say that they were overrated. First, I have never believed that popularity with the public is the final test of quality. There are a lot of people who would most certainly agree with that statement. I believe it is musically absurd to think the Beatles wrote all the best songs, performed the best, and had the highest quality recording productions.
There would be no Beatlemania today...it was something reserved for the times of the 60s.
@MrDennyman forget popularity it's ALL IN THE SONGS..the beatles shut down motown & all those frankie avalon's stiffs they even shut down elvis...why dont you go ask Ronnie Spector? The Beatles were it & you know it, that is no knock on motown & the other greats..of course the beatles loved motown, little richard, chuck berry, elvis & buddy holly, but no one can ever say other than the beatles the following...
Yes, this song sounds good. But just about everything they did sounded good. The question is why did the Supremes feel they had to do a Liverpool type album? The Beatles didn't have to do any Motown type covers, let alone an album of it. On top of that the Supremes had to make inroads into the Surf craze of the early 60s. I don't remember the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean doing Motown. The Supremes and the Motown Sound had it's own uniqueness and distinction. But that was the 60s.
the beatles also covered motown stuff I don't know much but I know they covered money (that's what I want) which was originally by barrett strong and one of the first popular motown songs and they also covered please mr postman which was originally by the marvelettes
That is correct. The Beatles did do those songs. But I believe they did them b/c they were influenced, like many Brits, by black American music. From the Supremes side, I doubt they recorded these songs for the same reason. Like I keep saying, it was the 60s. If anyone knows what I mean by that, it would be African-Americans. That's all I try to point out. For the younger readers who seem to worship the 60s and its music, there's a story behind the music.
Famed Scottish psychiatrist of Edinburgh, Scotland was consulted in the making of the suits the lovely Supremes wore on this British cover of the Beatles songs. The great doctor was multi-talented and designed outfits for many groups in the late 1950;s though the early 70's but rarely took credit.
Locobuick I believe the doctor you are reffering to is the hugely influential psychiatrist Doctor Charles Follen McKim Maloney. Dr Maloney had huge influence behind the scenes in the pop culture explosion from the 50's to the 70s, he designed costumes, shoes and hats and was a talented songwriter and choreographer. He was also a pioneering adventurer amongst many other things. The band Doctor and the Medics were influenced by his work, as were the Thompson twins. his influence is largely unknown
Hello once again Individuelle, hope youve been putting that great voice of yours to good use. Locobuick and I are researchers of a largely unknown but very influential gentleman called Dr CFM Maloney.
i love miss ballard . we remember sam cooke was also a great album. actually any album with the songs u hear flo in are the best . them 3 together were fabulous.
id smash her so damn hard she will see stars. I know she got good pussy

@rioboy13 But I'm sure there is a studio version of this song from the supremes a bit of liverpool session.
There are soo many alternate takes and versions of songs and songs that still are not released... and I think you can't do that is one of them.

I think diane did a good job on it
but it would have also been nice if florence had sang it because she had a much stronger soulful voice
