@geofgTrust me on this. Maybe while she is young she can be predijuced(not that she will. since of course she's so fun to be around) But when she enters the high grades she will be thought really cool because she can speak english and japanese fluently.
@Cherrierune I hope you are right. Nina has a social personality, so I think she will always have friends, but as I work at a high school, I have had a chance to observe students who lived in the U.S. etc. who are embarrassed to use English in class. It's true the other students are impressed when they hear them talk, but in some cases, this just embarrasses the students more. And even now, Nina doesn't like to use English at her daycare. But, maybe she will think it's cool some day.
i like the nina's poetry about popo-chan..the sound of her poet is make me laugh everytime i watch it..you have a great daughter.i wish i have little sister like nina..
You're daughter is so adorable! It makes me rather jealous though, I've always wanted to adopt a child, japanese, korean, chinese, I dont care. I can't wait for the future. You'r Nina does the Aquarium video was adorable! Tell me, do you ever get ridiculed for having a half japanese child (I should hope not, because she's adorable!)? Or are people rather accepting over there? I've heard both sides of that. O:
Oh my God, your baby girl is so cuteeeee ;) she kind of looks like me a little when i was her age. I'm half asian half european. i'm officially a big fan of your videos, and send me hugs for little nina :)
I'm half indonesian half dutch . but clearly my indonesian side is much much stronger. I'm living in indonesia, so I'm speaking mostly indonesia, but I speak fluent english to communicate with my relatives overseas.
hey we have the same name AND the same nationality! hahahahah how coincidential we both are a fan of this ahdorablleeeeeee girl might turned actress! :D
best wishes to you all geofg no kazoku! yoroshiku! machimashou, biidio upload! haha (my japanese suck i'm trying to learn more)
I had thought that 'steamy lady' was some sort of children's song that you had taught her - or a song from a stage show or something like that - until I read your comments. Nina is so sweet and lovable - her family in the US must certainly enjoy all these videos. I know because I am also a long distant Granny and our grandson's Japanese family also are long distance. Alas our son, wife, and son, have no family living nearby..... sniff .....
I think it is a sign of the times that families are so spread out these days, and we wish Nina could be around her American family more, too, but at least we have technology to help us "feel" closer.
wow the Japanese have strong genes, you'd never guess her father was Caucasian, at least she won't be bullied for looking different when she gets to school!
It's funny 'cause all my friends from America see Nina and say, "Wow, you have a Japanese baby", but in Japan people always remark on how foreign she looks. I do think the Japanese side is stronger, but if you look at her next to kids with two Japanese parents, you can definitely see something else in there.
Yes I agree with what you are saying- the same thing is said abt our Japanese/Canadian grandson. His family in Japan marvel at his remarked 'differences' such as his curly dark hair and fuller lips (he has his Daddy's mouth) and my Canadian friends love his 'asian' looks such as his big dark eyes...me - his Granny - just thinks he is the most beautiful boy !!!!!
Ha ha. Well, she certainly loves to talk, though we're not always sure what she's talking about. Even before she could speak English or Japanese, Nina was always making noises and trying to communicate, so I think that's just her nature.
god bless her heart, she's an amazing child... and she's growing beautifully... her english pronunciation is getting better... i just hope that i'll have a daughter as yasashii as she is... god bless her heart ^_^
Thank you so much! The only thing we've ever really given Nina is love, so I think that's the key to having a yasashii child. Good luck to you in making your own family one day!
Thanks for always leaving nice comments! Yeah, I would probably be a pretty glum guy if little Nina were not around. I'm glad she can put a smile on your face, too.
Ah, 14 months. That's a fun age. Does she hold her hands up in the air when she walks still? And, does she talk in sounds that almost sound like words but don't quite coalesce into coherent statements? I hope you are getting lots of video. It flies by so quickly.
Ha ha. Nina was born with a full head of hair and never lost it. Guess she got her mother's hair (says Papa as he inspects his receding hairline in the mirror).
it's really weird, nina has a lot of the same mannerisms as my japanese teacher...i'm not sure if that says more about my teacher or nina!
lol @ "clap clap clap" reminds me of my teacher saying "prease do your homework" - so cute! and funny lol. at this point nina is learning english faster than i'm learning japanese...i'm being left behind by a child @_@;;
How old is your Japanese teacher? Nina's Japanese does sometimes sound a bit like an older Japanese woman might use, probably because she is around older women at her daycare all day.
Nina's Japanese surpassed my own by the time she was 2. Don't worry, it's just that magic language learning ability that kids have until they're about 6. After that, learning a language is just hard work.
Haha, my teacher is like 40, so sensee has no excuse XD
i had a question - when you went to japan, did you start teaching right away, or did you do some other job? how did you manage while not knowing a lot of japanese?
Yeah, I pretty much started teaching right away after getting here. A college friend of mine was already living in Japan at that time, so I stayed with him for a couple months until I found my own place. And, he knew a guy who had an eikaiwa (English conversation school) so I started out working there. There are a lot of places that will hire people with little or no Japanese language ability. Some places even prefer to hire people like that.
Ah, thanks for responding. I figure if I can't get a job in Canada after I graduate, I'll just head over to Japan lol...become a fish monger or something XD
Well when a pizza is hot and the cheese is melted, it steams sometimes! (Especially if your house is really really really cold!) I could make a connection there!
I love Nina, she's so beautiful! I can't wait for the next installment of "Steamy Lady"!
OK, we're gonna go with the "steaming pizza in a cold house" explanation for Nina's use of steamy. So, if you were told you are steamy by Nina, would you feel complimented?
Yeah, my wife and I just noticed the other day that she doesn't really have a baby's body anymore. Her legs and arms are starting to get that gangly little kid look. Ah, it all goes by so quickly. Sniff.
I wonder how she thought of steamy for the word smooth lol. I guess i wont doubt her creative genius. She is always so funny :D I love her voice when she talks about popo-chan she is too cute!
Yeah, we're still puzzling over steamy. Not quite sure what she was trying to say about Popo-chan either, but her personality was so funny, kind of like the obasan sensei at her daycare.
