  • the guy talking sounds just like woodkid

  • God bless you!

  • Orthodox from the beginning ... Greetings From Albania !!!

  • SERBIA SALUTE TO ORTHODOX BROTHERS AND SISTERS !!!

    + C C C C +

  • ancient Greek language..

  • One kiss for my orthodox brothers from Nord Italy

  • Orthodox Christians: remember that Christ descended into HADES, not into "hell" which confuses those who know that the Lake of Fire comes at the end of all ages and after the judgment at the Throne of God. Christ comes to rescue the OT saints who waited for Him there and we say "Adam heard the footsteps of Christ and rejoiced"!! For he and all of our forefathers in the Faith entered Paradise with Him thru the "key" of the Cross! Alleluia!

  • @JudithMatta I have a question about that. Where can I read this in the Bible?

  • @optimatus Holy Scriptures are part of the entire Holy Tradition (Risen Christ's 40 days' teaching, etc) referred to by St. John at end of his Gospel ("the whole world would not contain all He did") His descent into Hades has references in I Peter 3:19 ("prisoners"); Matt. 28: 53ff the OT saints appeared on their way to Paradise from Sheol (Hades). Gospel of Nicodemus often read on Holy Fri eve service poetically describing this descent to rescue Adam and Eve with all believers.

  • @1990RFD I partly disagree and partly agree, but this issue is far too complex to be debated using Youtube comments. There is easily enough material to write a book. Regardless, you express yourself well, so although I am not going to continue this discussion, I incline my head with respect.

  • @1990RFD Culturally richer? You do realize that the Celtic, German, and every other "influence" actually originated from Roman Catholicism, don't you? Rome *conquered* the entirety of Western Europe, both militarily and culturally, so all of the influences really just come from itself. On the other hand, the entire country of Russia converted to Orthodoxy from their own free will, and added parts of their culture. Not to mention the entire middle east, and even some of the far east.

  • @TheJackOfFate Not all the different peoples that are now part of the Catholic Church were conquered by Rome, such as half of Germany, Poland, Ireland and Scandinavia (among others), and thus they made distinctive artistic contributions of their own. However, I agree with you about something, the east is not entirely greek, as the west is not entirely roman. Furthermore, greek influence in the west was strong, just as roman influence in the east was.

  • Catholic Church is more western more esthetic, while the Orthodox is more mystical and with oriental influences and more conservative because The Service or Lythurgy lasts for 3-4 hours, just like the old days.

  • @bluegender2005 I wouldn't say the Catholic Church is more western, as there are plenty of eastern rites within the Catholic Church (maronite, syro-malabar, syro-malankar, the so-called "uniatas" in the Baltic, etc.), though it is usually related to the latin rite. I wouldn't say its artistic achievements are more aesthetic, but perhaps culturally richer, since its influence is not exclusively greek, but also roman, celtic and even german, and you can see all those influences in western europe.

  • YAY I LOVBE THIS OMGOMKARGOMGOGMOGMOGOGMOASWRMGOMGOGOAMGOAROARMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOSDFMFGOAMOGMOASDGMASOMGEROGMVSWRIOEG 2;OJ

    I LOVE GREEKS

  • I love this music. It is the voice of God. I feel him in it and it fills me with joy.

  • i came up with a theory that involves the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (many sayings about figs) ross horne's book (new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of food for fruit eating rainforest animals). i then experimented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs (same brand) for 6 years now and found cylces which i related to the numbers in psgs 11/12 of the book of revelations. this theory has gone around the world.

  • greetings greek orthodox christians. a big hello from mt. roland tasmania. would you please read my theory and show it to your friends. i don't know if i have worked out something or not. so far i have had eliminations at days 504, 840, 1176, 1512, 1848, 2184 and expect my 7th at day 2520. regards.

  • From what church are the first icons taken?

  • This is beautiful...btw i notice that there is English,Japanese...etc Orthodox Church...that is retarded in my opinion...maybe it sounds dumb but that is only my opinion.Best regards for my Orthodox borthers Greeks..from Serbia :)

  • @SerbianTerrorist99 Why is that retarded? It is only cultural and language differences. They all belong to the Eastern Orthodox Church and therefore have the same beliefs and are in communion with one another. Thats like me being Greek Orthodox and saying its retarded that there is a Serbian Orthodox Church. I do not mean any hard feelings by the way, just trying to prove a point. With love from the Greeks brother.

  • @SerbianTerrorist99 The name before Orthodox only means what language it is in. For example Macedonian Orthodox is preached in Macedonian, and Serbian Orthodox is preached in Serbian, but they both preach the same thing As for Chinese.....well they are a whole different story.... they unofficially become Orthodox and are not recognized as an Orthodox part of the Church. Hope that helps.

    Deus Vult!

  • @Boris30111

Yes, don't mind if you are brazilian, if you are chinese, if you are serbian, if you are greek, if you are russian,

If you are ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN, you are in communion with all brothers of all countryes in thw world, and each country offers to Lord the Liturgy in it's national language!

    Christ is Risen!

  • @Loiginer Indeed He Has Risen!

  • Viva Orthodoxia......Mexican Orthodox here....so proud!

  • @nicomateo23 pride is from the evil one.

    we should be humble :)

  • Dude, I think this sounds freakin beautiful! Is there any chance someone can post a translation of the spoken part at the beginning? Thanks much

  • @kuehling83 In the grave Life ,You war put Christ, and the hosts of angels war amazed and frightened ,thy descension glorifiyng! But how You die, Life? How can You stay in to the grave? And the kingdom of death You destroy it! And those who war dead by ages you rised them again! Sorry for my english.. but you can understand.. try search "lamentations of great Friday" and you will find it in english too.. it is magnificent!

  • @kuehling83 i find it! just tipe "Lamentation of great friday 1st stasis English" and there it is.. If it's the first time you listen to it in english, i sugest you shut the door and listen to it in silance cause it will make a hall in your heart-you'll see.. trust me.. Nowhere we understand God better then in the great Friday.. God bless you!

  • @innocentul This has got to be the most moving, most beautiful, touching presentation of Greek Orhtodoxy...it takes you there, it brings the Gospel alive, while exalting the beauty of the Orthodox rite....BEAUTIFUL doesn't begin to describe it.

A GEM! this is perfect to show to other Christians who may inquire about Orthodoxy.

  • @NativeNewYorkGuy Yes ,in the great Friday, God descends in to our hell, were it is practically imposible to get, but God manages to enter in our hell and to bring His Light were there is simply no hope..And He transforms our moovement of selfdestruction ,our hell in a New and incomprehensible Heaven, who's key is (a paradox)to accept our death, as he accepted it to. And these death, the entering in hell is from now on the point were we meet God. He waits us down there..we see God in hell!!

  • @NativeNewYorkGuy The tradition says that the cherubims covered their eyes with their wings whan they saw what God is capable to do! The insane Love of God for man, it is simply incoprehensible for our minds..Other meaning is that God is in hell to as imposible as that seems, is the hell of love, the hell you live when the one you love suffers.. He becomes one with us in hell, He becomes one of us, The One who drinks the bitter cup instead of us. how can someone not just love our God?

  • ...μια θεραπεία...(:

  • This calms every soul apart. God have mercy upon us !

  • @SeekingSeraphim: You are correct, as far as my limited study has shown. In fact, the Church (and the scriptures) teach that the Pagans are not fully without truth, but that the mysteries of the ancient Gods are fulfilled in the person of Christ Jesus. James the Apostle tells us to be careful in teaching others, "for they [teachers] shall be judged more severely." Before criticizing another's faith (or lack thereof), we must look within ourselves and see if what we condemn also dwells in us.

  • Music is the echo from the voice of the Highest, like the light of the stars which reaches the Earth as only a glimmer compared to their full and glorious fire. Our church provides us with such subtle and meditative melodies as inspire prayer. This is the most basic definition of an icon: anything at the sight or sound of which the soul feels moved to prayer.

    Glory to Jesus Christ!

  • @FraterOST Thats beautiful ive never thought of it that way in all my life.

  • Where are the frescoes from?

  • Does anyone here have the Greek text of what is being said and chanted? Also, does anyone have the English translations?

  • @SeekingSeraphim I think it is the reading of the crucifixion story told in the Gospels.

  • I may not be an Orthodox...but this is beautiful....I'm proud to be Christian

  • @prefersNOTtoREAD You are welcome if you wish to join us.

    We are the One church,

    God bless you!

  • I was always haunted by the beauty of the Orthodox chants as oppose to the morbid teachings of the Roman Catholic heresy.

  • Orthodoxy is the ONLY true Christian religion (the gospel) to CHRISTOS! The Catholic separation from the Orthodoxy world, in the 800's A.D. allowed many other christian religions to form claiming to be the "the one and only" true religion to Christianity ... BLASPHEMY! To this day, stands the reason why Christianity is failing because of this fatal mistake (the true internal message of its teachings changed too often for convenience) All Christian religions are NOT the same! It's Orthodoxy!

  • @jahellaspartan In all technicality, the true Christian church was butchered in the year 325AD by the Council of Nicaea but mixing pagan tenants into it and affirming that Jesus was more divine than man in life. The Gnostics and Arians are far closer to the original Christians who inhabited Syria and Armenia, the first nations to tolerate or adopt Christianity.

  • @DarkFilmDirector i would also argue the Coptic as well, Iraqi Coptics to be specific

  • @DarkFilmDirector

Gnostic and Arians are and were heresies. Christ IS more than human.

He is Both human and God.

  • @jahellaspartan I think Christianity (the religion) doesn't matter really what matters is that we all Christians have faith in Jesus Christ our Saviour, as simple as that!

  • I personally felt that Orthodox is a beauty! Especially with their artworks and I feel holy after seeing this!

  • Without your Byzantine Music noone can play music.-

    Jesus Christ bless your "Child".-

    With respect Nancy25000.-

  • Petros Gaitanos voice is out of this world.

  • If you dont want you will not became slave. Dont forget you r the only one who is master of his tought and facts. If you love God you will not be slave:)! God bless all men!

  • I wish I was raised in the Greek Church

  • Praise the Lord!

  • heavenly!

  • as a Pagan I love these songs! we Wiccans are youre allie in the struggle against mans wayward ways. but man can be a mindless beast. few listen to us.

  • I wander why..

  • Falanxknight..................because certain faithless elements make too much money selling land mines!

  • to you this is pretty music, to us it is prayer and devotion. Do not attempt to make a moral equivalent.

  • m4xfl4xst4r........................its devotion to me too. Jesus cannot be ignored. nor can his influences on the world. i cant dwell in a totally pagan world, Jesus must be present. ...as for the controversial Trinity, i tend to follow the basic idea of the monk Arias's philosophy. 4th century AD.

  • @acerb45666555 You are our allies?? Think again. The devil is not brothers with Christ my friend.

  • @AegeanKing ......."The devil"?? do you mean pagan beliefs? among Wiccans,(the most popular group), the main saying is, "Do as ye will and harm none". and Wiccans do not believe in hell or satan. we are responsible for any bad we do. as well as any good we do. the creators work is done on the moment we are born! we recieve many gifts upon our birth. so we must use them as best we can. so i see Jesus as pushing the same idea to try to be good! peace! :)

  • @acerb45666555 You worship nature, you worship two or more Gods. You are a pagan, that is from Satan. Christ was clear on such things...

  • @AegeanKing ......who invented this term, "satan"? maybe its not describing an actual demon below earth? metaphor was in great use back then. suppose satan just means the world of the country folk beyond the sphere of Christianity? if so, then why would respect for our mother earth and all dwelling upon it be seen as sinful?? .......'you mentioned two gods. true, in Irish paganism the earth is Danu. the sun is her mate, the Dagda. the all father!=God!

  • @AegeanKing ......video>>"Hildegard von Bingen - Kyrie Eleison"........very interesting! relating to the marriage of the heavens and earth! = Dagda and Danu! :)

  • Forgive me, Brother, and correct me if I am wrong, but I recall several fathers of our most holy Church imploring the faithful to not judge or condemn, but rather to "commend their faith, but dare not to condemn their lack of faith."

  • The End Is Close, All Will Become Slaves To The Will Of The Elite.

  • you will by no means become no slave, it is defeated though chist.

  • επαίνους Κυρίου Ιησού Χριστού

  • I'm Lutheran Christian, but I like Orthodox Christian's song. : )

  • They actually aren't songs... they are chants. I am glad you like them, they are extremely beautiful and, if you ever were to translate them, they are extremely poetic.

  • re paidia eipame................

  • I'm a christian too, but not ortodox, but evangelic- from Germany - but I regard you as a brother - because of all Christian are brothers, I think, every men and women who believe in Jesus are brothers and sister. I pray and hope, you see it like me.

  • There are over 2500 protestant so called Christians and more added every day if you want to learn the faith you need a solid foundation That's Orthodoxy. keep digging. Peace b with u.

  • I see what you say. Maybe you're right. You and me know that Jesus Christus is Son of God. He is our saviour. If you believe in that, you are my brother and I thank you for your message.

  • When our Lord went joyfully to His Cross, He opened the gates of Hades for ALL mankind,

and at the Transfiguration on mt. tabor when Prophet Elias, and Moses were there with Him that simply means that He is Lord of heaven ,Hades and earth.

Elias was taken up, Moses went to Hades, and three apostles were living on earth.

Our Lord has three natures Father, Son , and Holy Spirit, that's not negotiable.

    Peace b with u.

  • I am an Orthodox Christian. Praise be to the One True God.

  • Your are so right . The Eastern churches have wonderful music.. I am Roman Catholic because there is no Byzantine church near here. The music in the catholic church is a mess. AWFUL new age crap. They can have it, i dont sing it, becuase it doesnt honor God anymore. less they should offend the other religions....God forbid we should sing a song to the Holy Virgin.. The protestants wouldnt like it.... God Help Me!

  • You should probably talk to your Bishop, some churches do it without the knowledge that you have about it. Leadership might do something about it. I don't have any new age crap in my church, the Bishop is pretty good at that stuff.

  • I understand your pain. You are loyal to your specific version of Christianity - yet that branch has changed so many times, that it is doubtful St. Peter would consider it anything but a lost vision. If you are looking for the ancient Christian Church but want papal recognition then you might want to find a Byzantine Church that has ties to Catholicism. We call these the New Calender churches. Just please recall that historically you may just want the original old calender Greek/Syrian etc.

  • That last post was meant for Babycat. Again please understand that the Old Calender Greek Orthodox/Syrian, what have you, sees anything connect to the papacy as heretical. Historically, the Papacy was at odds with the Byzantines to the point that Constantinopal was sacked during the (4th?) crusade.

Imagine seeing "Christian" knights plundering eastern Orthodox monasteries and cathedrals. But, such is history.

  • I think you are confused... the New Calendar Orthodox Churches are not in communion with Rome. You are confusing them with the "Byzantine Catholics".

  • Eu Prattein!

  • Beautiful. The the Greeks certainly contribute great things to the glory of God. Grace and peace to all Greeks and everyone from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • what is this chant?

  • It is part of the mourning hymns comprised by many verses chanted on the Great Friday evening at the Service of the Lamentations before the funeral procession.

  • Excellent presentation. Well done.

20: And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

21: The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

22: Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23: And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.' John 12:20-23
