  • Why does the video get all fucked up at 3:13?

  • Has ANYONE got the AOL session version of this?! It disappeared from the internet years ago and it was beautiful...

  • This is my favorite song by these guys

    Never gets old

  • What in the world is a troll anyway?

  • would you stop calling them trolls their called short people

  • @MikeBenedict1986 not rly funny man

  • good cover guys. one of my favorites by SDRE

  • @currerimp08 This is.... SDRE

    You know that right.

  • love them

  • How the fuck could someone dislike this? I bet those 8 people listen to Brokencyde.

  • Great bad I put them up with Hum as some of my favorite 90's music

  • This is greatness!

No autotune was used in the making of this video

  • @SitarKnight

    hahaha, niiiice :-)

  • How can anybody hate anything when they hear this?

  • oh man military pants brings me back to the 90s

  • Dan is the man!

  • amazing, sounds even better acoustic

  • Che meraviglia...The Ocean's the smartest wake up alarm music I've ever set in my cell phone.

  • When the hell are they coming to Japan???!!!

  • @jasonmfrench89 You weren't able to tell it wasn't a Zepplin cover when you left this same comment on another SDRE video titled The Ocean? Are you a troll or are you legitimately a moron? There's no real difference, one just thinks he's clever and funny.

  • @Metalcortaku Did I seriously? I can't remember, all I know is your a fag

  • @jasonmfrench89 TROLL HARDER DUMBASS.

  • jeremy is the jason statham of my dreams. yeah.

  • This is such a beautiful song and a beautiful version of it.

Although, in the beginning Jeremy sorta looks like James Taylor :P

I have many many many favorite SDRE songs and I think they're all their "best"

BTW...I think the new song is called "10"

  • Haha it's a great name for the new song :D

Thank god there's infinite numbers so SDRE can always find names for songs :D

  • SING INTO AN OCEAN AND I HEAR THE OCEAAAAN ROOOOAR...

    wait wrong song...

  • LMAO! (Praying4tidalWaves)

  • Only tickets available to me are through scalpers :(

  • try stub hub...i just got my tickets for tonight in boston

  • It sucks they didn't play anything from Rising tide though:(

  • yeah...well, agreed...the show went way too quick...and that opening band fuckin sucks!

  • only caught the last song. But, a bunch of people said that every song sounded similar... Jeremy didn't mention what the new song was called? But, that being said It was still great to see them live. Look forward to see Jeremy's solo act if he comes around again.

  • cant wait till they come to the henry ford theatre in hollywood

  • That's right!! You folks Down Under get to see them at the Festival!! Very nice!!!

    :-)

  • SDRE's best and most beautiful song, IMO

  • nah, their best song is Every Shining Time You Arrive :)

  • no....

    their best song is waffle

    ;)

  • who would give this comment a thumbs down?

every shining time is a good song, but i couldnt say sunny day had a best song, and if they did, it would probably be off diary.

they are just a great band in general, lets hope their new tour leads to a new record.

  • i agree. i want to see them in Atlanta in oct. but i can't afford to go

  • I think the best song is Grendal. That's just my opinion though.

  • cannot wait for soundwave 2010 =D

  • So so so so so excited for Soundwave now.

  • I am so glad they will be touring again...they are so friggin talented. I am biased of course, since Dan is my brother...but still...

They are all incrediby talented, and are all very nice people, as well.

  • I love his voice, it's so unique.

  • There chicago show sold out in five minutes. i'm pissed cause i wanted to go

  • Jeremy does have an amazing voice, beautiful song

  • there so awesome...but its weird to watch them because they move around alot in weird ways

  • I guess, but it'd be weirder for them to play a song like this and stay perfectly still!

  • hahah. true. but here all like WOOSH! and im like. OMG! but yeah. i love SDRE.

  • fuck they do a great job of this, such a good blend with the guitars, it almost sounds like it's one part

  • wow..amazing guitar playing

  • when i listened to this song for the first time i cried

  • emo!

  • love it :)

  • i saw them in 1998 on the How It Feels.. tour, and WOW. they were so amazing, i had a chance to see Jeremy play in Boston recently, but my band was playing that night. I guess my priorities weren't in order

  • this is beautiful

    there amazing

and this is basically live and they did an amazing job

  • The Rsing Tide is a perfect album, other than Television. This is a perfect song and this perfect band really needs to get back together.

  • you do know that the original 4 members have reunited and are doing a tour?

  • Yup and I am pumped... although no shows near me :(

Oh well, at least there will be some new videos.

  • God I love them. Sucks they helped spawn the emo movement we have littering music these days.

  • Not all. What is called emo nowadays has little if nothing to do with what emerged in the mid and late 90's. Unfortunately.

  • i heard theyre getting back together *crosses fingers*

if blink 182 did, so should they

  • every 3 or 4 years ...they always say they will

    but it never happens

  • their just mindblowing - people saying their crap are deaf .. just brilliant :)

  • I'm so glad I though to look for this - I love the melody and the complementary guitar parts on this. Totally underrated band. The word "genius" doesn't even begin to describe them.

  • BRILLIANT.

  • google it

  • GOD this is amazing, I cant get over it. I wish they would record more of their songs acoustic like this.

  • Just hit me that Enigk's songwriting style is actually kinda folky.

  • Yeah, though it used to be a little harder. Type in "9 SDRE" and you'll find something from an album they released before Diary. Sadly, it was only released in vinyl and it's next to impossible to find.

  • Also, I just realized I was a little vague. I meant type "9 SDRE" in the video search bar here on YouTube! :)

  • and you'll find a video uploaded by me :)

  • one of the best songs they ever wrote. i enjoy it even more than stuff on Diary

  • Diary really is an acquired taste, in my opinion. I used to not really like it that much save for Seven and In Circles, but then I started listening to it more and found that I like it more now than I thought I would.

  • the vocal melodies on this album are legendary

  • amazin

    almost a lullaby!

  • beautiful

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • brutal!!! es una canción preciosa. la escucho varias veces al dia desde hace tiempo y me sigue emocionando cada vez. a ver cuando le vemos por españa. saludos a tod@s los que jeremy nos toca la fibra. escuchen esto: standstill

brutal song! i want see you soon in spain ...kisses

  • haha even i would go to spain if they would go there. but unfortunatly thats not likely to happen too soon... but i still believe in a reunion

  • they already had a reunion in 99

  • It's actually 6/4... :-)

  • good song

    chills me

  • i have this on my phone and i play it all the time when i walk home.

  • Soothing

  • Awesome band.

  • I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Jeremy's hair had fallen off.

But he is still abeautiful person.

    I love SDRE.

  • fav. sunny day song.

  • Anyone have the tablature for this? I wanna learn this on my acoustic

and circa survive are pretty good

  • sunnydayrealestate[dot]net used to have good ones for this

  • thanks

  • love this song <333333

  • it is hard to find bands like SDRE nowadays, they were one in a million. but if u guys want to hear something close to this check out CIRCA SURVIVE they're new and know what they're doing sounds amazing! ther is hope.

  • yeah, i saw them in concert a while back. theyre really good.

  • i checked them out they are really good

  • preciosa

  • This by far my favorite Sunny Day song. I agree with mrpog about the bands today. It was different 15 years ago. The bands were just better. The Appleseed Cast is good though. I wish Mineral or The Gloria Record were still around. Now we have Zookeeper. Chris Simpson is excellent. Just a thought.

  • Yeah Appleseed Cast is amazing. They are one of the only bands around today that are worth listening to.

Cheers, amazing song by the way.

  • Check out Empire! Empire! (I was a Lonely Estate) for some SDRE style Emo.

  • just the best!

  • why cant we have more bands like this today? its all fake emo crap nowadays...

appleseed cast gave me hope tho...

just disappointed jimmy eat world changed their sound..

  • Never again to hear

    The rivers song so clear

    <3

  • Does anyone have a live (non acoustic) version of The Ocean? That'd be awesome!!!

  • This is a good song.

  • What age is the lead-singer?

  • well you dont have to post this for every sdre video out there :P

tell your uncle to make music again ;)

  • anpat is right, he released a solo album called the missing link in 2007

  • Tell uncle Dan that he is missed. And what was his deal with California anyway?

  • Met Dan a few times. He was extremely nice. It's because of him that I picked up the guitar. I agree that he missed and hope that he creates music again!

  • sdre also reunited as the the fire theft, and are coming out with an album soon

  • I didn't know that Fire Theft was Sunny Day with a different name. That's kickass! Thanks for the info.

  • Thats not entirely accurate - there was also a lineup change. They still rock just as hard though.

  • I see. I've heard of them before but never listened to any of their stuff. I'll have to check them out.

  • Only lineup change is the lack of Dan Hoerner, but the lack of Nate Mendel for HIFTBSO and The Rising Tide was unfortunate but they are still perfect albums.

  • I listened to Fire Theft... hoping they would be as good as SDRE.. and they don't sound anything like them :((( even though its basically the same.. I guess when a band gets older you get influenced differently, and you start to sound different

  • The Fire Theft is different, but they pull it off quite well, especially with "Sinatra." Well, I enjoy 'em anyway. Enigk said that they could make another album at some point, maybe not SOON but we can look forward to something in the future.

Enigk's about to release a new solo album sometime in the next few months, so that's gonna be pretty cool.

  • I love this song so much.

  • the maestroes of my world

  • i wish that old school emo is still the emo now.. no emo fashion(the hair, tight jeans, it sucks) no growl.. simple music, emotional, clean, simple dresses.. and nice songs.. touching

  • they remind me of pinback

  • or wouldn't it be the other way around?

  • no. it woudlnt. cause i heard pinback before these guys.

  • he has become old en bold:O

  • i get chills listenign to this.

thanks for posting it its so awesome

  • sunny day real estate was definitely a band that made me appreciate music in a much more personal way than i did before hearing them. i don't think any band or person in the same/similar genre can touch what enigk is capable of. a perfect mix of surrealism and realism.

  • Wow, this is great.

  • wow. SPIN doing something cool. i'm surprised.

  • lol i like how they wave ;p

  • the guy plays an amazing piece of music and all some of you morons can comment about is his hairloss. who cares, he's amazing.

  • beautiful and...words escape me.

  • ...speehless

  • What a great version of this song so vulnerable and real. The two guitar part sound great I love it!

  • this is sad music

  • Aww hes losing his hair :[

  • Amen to that!

  • i just get this amazing feeling wen he sings this pic"When you hit the ground Its hard to speak But its who you are A shining star Go Tell the millions begin! Well run through the fields The turning of wheels Down with the buildings Worlds on your shoulders Climb through the wasteland Wait for the sky to remind you These things are true"
  • I would have to say that if you don't like, or at least appreciate, this then you probably don't like music...

  • Or at least probably don't like/appreciate "true" music. ;).

  • This band and my uncle (the guy with the beard a.k.a Dan) has been such an influence to me and my own band (Devoid). This song has had a huge effect on my life as well. I don't know what I would have done without this song and Sunny Day Real Estate. By the way, this is my "sister's" profile. :-)

  • the rising tide is my favorite album of theirs. whenever i hear "Rain Song" i get sad and happy at the same time..its a beautiful song but im sad that they broke up and i wont get to see them ever. i didnt even know they did acoustic sessions before 5 minutes ago

by the way does anyone have a tab of this song? ive looked everywhere

  • The Rain SOng is my favourite Rising Tide song as well. They used to have good tabs at sunnydayrealestate[dot]net

  • he's bald now?

  • love this song, the rising tide is a great album

  • i am very impressed with this. this a very underappreciated song of theirs in my opinion. and to call any of the early emo bands seems liek an insult to me cuz emo now adays sucks and all the 90's emo was awesome.

  • i love how jeremy is playing a gibson and dan is playing a yamaha.

  • from what i've seen live, i'm pretty sure they're both jeremy's guitars.

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • in retrospect, labeling this band emo is quite an insult...even if they did originate it.

  • are you serious?

  • I agree. But they didn't originate emo, people who were looking to pigeonhole music did with their ugly labels. I f you look past that though, you'd have to credit a band named Rites of Spring

  • Another wonderul and underappreciated band. Jeremy and Dan -- along with Jon and Ken of the Posies -- are talented as a songwriting duo in the vain of McCartney and Lennon. Long live SDRE!

  • True dat!

  • It doesn't matter how expensive your guitar is, it's what kind of sound you can create with what's in front of you.

  • Just one of those bands, doesn't make any sense why they never received Grammy's or wide spread success. The emotion the flows through their music is uncanny. Love that minor change around three minute spot!...never noticed that before. Thank God for recordings!

  • wow

  • execellent

  • beautiful.

  • I think i have the same yamaha - F-310P

Thanks for this great video! I hope none of emo-fakers will see it

  • Why did Sunny Day Real Estate ever break up?

  • its a yamaha with a wonderful tone sound-tard

  • these guys are great! diary will always be my favorite cd!

  • Dan is playing a cheap Yamaha, heh.
