@omid11 yeah, and I'm the moron. you can google shit before you talk shit jackass. I woke pissed anyway. They had that shit in our Navy boat engines many decades before GP cars were thought of.
@omid11 proove it then. I just went to the gas station lookin for somebody like you to say a fucking word to me. you shouldn't call someone a cunt.... although you are what you eat.... DICK. hahahhahahahah
@omid11 gd, I'd like to run into you lil bitch.... like right now. I'd almost pay. Since you are what you eat... I'm gonna call you nut sweat. cunt? you don't call a guy a cunt. And what did I do to you. Get a shrink bro.

It's funny. When you look at the spec's for this WWII engine you would think: well thats a modern all aluminum 32 valve DOHC V8 engine. When you look at the specs for a modern Ford engine you might think - well thats an old timer cast iron V8 with 16 pushrod activated valves. I wonder why the american car industry are in deep trouble. ;-p
@catoni Well said. I like engines of all sorts. I always looked down on push rod engines when compared to others but they do have their place. Simple design, good for 6000 rpm these days, easy to maintain, will run 250,000+ miles with the best of them. Just a lower performance engine. Simplicity is better some times.
@raginroadrunner Understood. I don't know why I didn't pickup on that. Quite exotic for the American time period. Kinda' strange that Ford would make it that way. DOHC will last just as long as push rod engines, but why bother if the engine is not going to be a high revving engine. I'll bet these engines never saw anything above 3500 revolutions per minute.
@kolbpilot It was a V12 aircraft engine similar to that of the Rolls Royce Merlin and Allison engines but cut down to V8 I think this is why it has duel over head cams dual magnetos and twin spark plugs
@qbubbaq Correct. They were in need of an engine for tanks durring ww2 but didnt have the time to design one from scratch, so they just cut off 4 cylinders. Think of it like the GM sbc350 and the gm 4.3l v6. Same engine with 2 less pistons. All internal parts interchangeable.
@catoni What current Ford V8 has pushrods? The last time the Windsor was used in a production vehicle was the '01 Explorer, and they first started phasing them out with the OHC Modular in the early '90s.
@TheA10Phonex the bugatti has a terrible engine. 16 cylinders needs 4 TURBOCHARGERS to make a measly 1001PS (which is actually 987rwhp) and its like 2 tonnes so really not a very good car :L
@slamuraiify didn't spin fast enough to need that much air. those two carbs flow 480 cfm each. and at 2800 rpm (typically) max it doesn't need as much air as lets a say a big block turning 7 or 8 thousand rpm. i could probably benefit from having a couple of 850's on it or something similar but it didn't need it. the thing made 525 hp at 2800 rpm and over 1000 ft lbs of torque at idle. peak torque was around 1350 ft lbs i think .
wow,, thats awsome,, these monsters are what made the sherman so dangerous to be in when shot.. Well not so much this engine, but all the Gasoline that was onboard... thats an awsome piece of history,, im jealous
The Ford GAA V-8 engine was a modification of an earlier V-12 engine intended for aircraft use. At the outbreak of WWII, no aircraft had been designed around the new high-tech V-12, so it was chopped down to a V-8 and configured for the Sherman. It kept its 60-degree V angle between the cylinder banks and was fitted with a 180-degree crankshaft, making it essentially two inline four-cylinders with a common crankcase. Which is why it doesn't have the classic American V-8 sound.
Sorry, I don´t see anything to learn, pls see my invention of the diesel motor 2 strokes by valves only without springs. rgds.

@teeter1939 well its torque that matters when hauling a big chunk a steel around any clue?
seigheil777 6 months ago
@seigheil777 I came up with 1010 ft.-lbs. using the formula: hp = (torque *RPM)/5252
teeter1939 6 months ago
@teeter1939 what rpm did you use?
turtlemann14 4 months ago
@turtlemann14 I used 2600 RPM, that was the max number that I found. I wouldn't want an engine this size spinning much faster that that either.
