  • I don't know why but after almost 20 years that little flute/middle eastern piece at 0:55 - 1:21 always creeps me out... reminds me of all those Are You Afraid of the Dark episodes and other YTV horror-shows about mummies and tombs. Really eerie.

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one who watched this as a kid lol

  • The music always scared me as a child.

  • How long do you think we will reach in civilization?

  • This is so good on DXM.

  • does anyone have the halloween minds eye, i do. i wana post it up but idk how

  • You know, the only way one can enjoy The Mind's Eye properly is to not ask yourself questions. The only question that should be asked it:

    "Why not?"

  • PLEASE GIVE PROPER CREDIT to the creator of "The Mind's Eye". Yes, Odyssey had a collection of CGI demos, but "The Mind's Eye" was a MIRAMAR production by Emmy Award winning director JAN NICKMAN who spent thousands of hours exquisitely crafting them into a double platinum selling film considered to be a milestone in the field of computer animation. With a score by JAMES REYNOLDS, "The Mind's Eye" reached #12 on Billboard's video hits chart. PLEASE GIVE PROPER CREDIT TO THE ARTISTS.

  • The graphics are better than Black Ops.

  • That statue has got some SERIOUS ahlete's foot! ;-) haha This is my favorite sample of CGI I want to learn how to make videos like these!

  • When I was a kid, this was all abstract to me, now I can see the deeper meanings!

  • I AM WATCHING THIS FROM THE YEAR 3000.

  • Does anyone here remember a tume when people thought virtual reality was THE FUTURE!

  • @limbdarkening what? sorry, my robot's signal cut...

  • the one of the office building inside reminds me of one of the places my dad used to work at. I think it was the "Info-mart" in downtown dallas.

  • Oh god Oh god that running statue used to scare the shit out of me.

  • All these years, and these videos have never been bested!

  • @CleansWithRag You probably haven't seen everything today has for offer obviously. Or much at all.

  • @xXTheRealGmanXx

    I've searched. Nothing comes close.

  • This is the best one, by far. Brings back memories.

  • I have THE MIND'S EYE on video. Curious. This version of "Civilization Rising" is different from the one on the tape I have.

  • Thank you for this!

  • God I love The Mind's Eye.

  • I've been searching for this one for YEARS. Thank you so, so much for putting it up!

  • It amazes me how this late 80's and early 90's computer graphics animation used to take 100's of thousands of perhaps millions of dollars worth of computer hardware (Connection Machine for example) to create. Then it would take super expensive, slow, cumbersome software and animators months to do a simple animation. Now, far superior graphics can be done on a home computer with a $3,000 copy of 3D Studio MAX. Astounding progress has been made.

  • @mrjustin5 dont forget the cray XMP???....i think was one of them

  • @zoidburg111 There were a variety of computers capable of rendering graphics like these. Sadly, the machines and the software they ran has largely been forgotten, perhaps because there was absolutely no need to inform the public they existed, so they stayed invisible to the public eye except through these videos.

Interestingly, today, even if you know of those computer systems it is almost impossible to find anything about them on the internet.

  • @zoidburg111 ...The most creatively fertile period in computing history, forgotten.

  • YTV Short Circiutz! ^^

  • Now this one I remember X3

  • This was always my favorite Short Circuitz clip. Man these have been good memories, I really need to get a lazer disc player so I can have these!

  • I wish it had been issued on DVD but Odessey no longer exists, it is now Animation Entertainment and focuses on primarily on photographic art.

I don't think any are still in print.

    Some info from Wikipedia

  • the full title: "The Mind's Eye: A Computer Animation Odyssey" (1990)

I have this on VHS from Miramar, not the Radio Shack version. This is an impressive repurposing and re-editing on College art projects, TV links between shows & commercials and promos (including commericals).

Even in it's primitive/early computer graphics, it's still quite impressive and many places fun, some places dramatic.
