Republicans were against it because they stupidly fight any regulation, no matter how broken the economic system gets. Unfortunately, it still wasn't enough and it was much too late.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not the only cause of the financial meltdown, they were merely the trigger. Barney Frank is, BY FAR, the most respected member of Congress on either side of the aisle. When Republicans controlled Congress during the Clinton presidency, Barney Frank was the guy Republicans went to in order to reach compromise that would not be vetoed by Clinton. He could have been House Speaker if he challenged Nancy Pelosi in 2007.

The last 3 ceo's of Fannie Mae, all were involved in sub prime mortgages were CFR members and all the banks that were benefactors of the crisis through the bail out are too CFR members. The U.S. Supreme Court found this to be UNCONSTITUTIONAL! Which was good because everyone in Chicago owned a gun except law abiding citizens. Hey, Lance, sorry but the Chicago law that banned registration of handguns was passed in 1982. Daley wasn't elected mayor until 1989. All that you can blame Daley for was supporting keeping the law. Well, Lance, you're going to have to come up with facts. I know the NRA send out mailings telling its membership that everybody's trying to take away their guns, but they never state any facts. All they do is say They're Trying to Take Away Our Guns. Well, put up some facts, not just say They're Gonna Take Away Our Guns.

Lance, it's real simple. " Liberals hate guns " is a GOP smokescreen myth. Democrats have NEVER EVER EVER proposed anything that stops anyone from owning guns. They want laws that ensure that criminals cannot legally get them, which in Texas, you can buy a gun like you're buying a loaf of bread. Plus, I spent four years in the military. You can't help but develop a fascination with them.

If I thought I wasn't completely wasting my time pointing out the painfully obvious to you, I'd post a list here of unconstitutional, Democrat-supported, anti-gun laws nationwide - starting with the DC handgun ban of 1976 that the DNC fought tooth and nail to keep in place until the USSC struck it down - but why should I? Uh, yeah, we did. In 1994, a Democratic controlled Congress passed a regulatory reform act and the first thing that the Gingrich led Congress did in 1995 was overturn it. And the bill that allowed for the subprime mortgage lenders to loan to whomever was authored by Phil Gramm, Jim Leach and Mike Bliley, ALL REPUBLICANS. The Gramm Leach Bliley Act, which overturned the Glass-Steagall Act passed about 50 years ago, is what allowed subprime mortgage lenders to loan money to people that could not afford to pay it back. You see, little fella, it was determined that Osama bin Laden was planning attacks on US tagets here and abroad as far back as 1998. Bill Clinton knew that, so he launched bombings. When Bin Laden escaped, he went to Congress to launch further invasions, and the Republicans refused to even schedule a hearing.
