1/2 for this recording! (It is a bit unfair to compare this terrible amature recording to some other professionally recorded versions of others, but.... I cld imagine how it cld be even on a professional recording..) Too much "pushing" and so much cracking, on top of being off-tune!! As for acting, this is a level of a jr high school autum festival performance. It was hard for me to listen to the end.
Her cadenza sounds a little like 'Sous le dome epais'. She should take the example of Beverly Sills, who did her own Lucia cadenza whilst still fitting into the appropriate style.
As a performer's coach, I don't generally approve of Futral's acting, but she is absolutely convincing here. I've never before been so appalled and moved to such pity for Lucia.
@bettiniroma Screaming. If you're going to slam someone who can sing like this, at least spell the words right. I saw Elizabeth in Charleston, SC in June. She is a stunning singer in person. The audio in this recording doesn't really do her justice.
I was lucky enough to see her in Fort Worth in 2008 in this role. Absolute brilliance. The video cannot possibly do her justice. And such a kind person. :) 5/5
Futral and Costello in Fort Worth Lucia in 2008. Terrific. She is today's best Lucia - and I've seen the others who are acclaimed. She is also a superb Manon.
My favorite of today's coloraturas. I too saw her Lucia in Fort Worth, and there's no video that can compare to that experience. It's really a crime that Anna Netrebko's Puritani was broadcast from the Met instead of hers. She should be much better known.
Forgot to mention this, but I thought everyone might get a laugh out of a review of her performance I read in one of the local papers. The reviewer denied that she was, in fact, a coloratura, and suggested she try out more dramatic Verdi repertoire. (!)
i just saw here lucia down at Fort Worth Opera and this scene was breathtaking in person. she has high notes for days, beautiful line and is dramatically captivating! she gets my vote!
4/2 very good

Hi, coloraturafan2-
Can you tell me where this was recorded?

One of the maddest of all mad scenes, I'd say. That bit at the beginning looks straight out of a horror flick! Terrific.
