@GarryHarriman Frankly, I can't stop pissing myself this many years later! I can't imagine what it must have been like in the room. I cringe at just the thought of what's coming.
I think you Brits are just jealous of Americans. You once had the mightiest empire the world had ever seen and a few rag tag Americans showed the world that you are a paper tiger. Everything unraveled and now all you have to hold on to is a silly show, which America did better.
@hbdywtk - if you are referring to the war of independence, it wasn't "a few rag tag Americans". It was a pretty damn smart group of expat Brits with the help of the French. In effect, this was a long distance civil war, lol, and only after that could the guys in the states be called "Americans".
And what screwed the old empire wasn't the loss of America, it was the two world wars, so the real blame lies with the Kaiser and Hitler.
What is totally screwing Britain right now is the EU.
@drakenwulf lmao. If calling the war of iindependence a "civil war" makes you feel better, go for it. The fact is the arrogant English at the time referred to the colonists as "Americans" which was considered a derogatory term at the time. They didn't consider the people here as English (many were not anyway, for example, Paul Revere). But since the "Americans" beat the snot out of the English, they call it a "Civil War" to make themselves feel better about being such losers.
@hbdywtk Nope, I'm fine calling it a war of independence, and if I'd been in America at the time I'd have been fighting against the British government as well - read up on the history of John Paul Jones - that guy was from my hometown, and he came back during the war to attack it, lol! That'd be me.
But - there was no official independent country called "America" until after the war, so the majority of those in America would be of various European nationalities, mainly British.
@drakenwulf true, there was no official independent country called "America" until after the war. How could there be? But the colonies weren't considered "England" either. Thanks for the lesson on John Paul Jones though. I didn't know that and will have to look it up. Cheers.
It's amazing how different the UK and US versions are in their approach. While they're both about social gaffes and such, the British version is mostly awkwardness and comes across a lot more realistic. The American version is a lot crazier and relies on extreme personalities like Dwight who causes mass panic trying to teach fire safety. The people are like caricatures.
@GrahamCorlet I've been to crappy office training days etc and I'd be well happy if someone like him came in to give a 'talk', and certainly wouldn't be sitting there looking like a dummy - I'd be trying really hard not to laugh and thanking God we had some entertainment at last!! lol
You can't beat the UK version!! I couldn't sit through the US one, it's just done like a sitcom, and a bad one! I saw a comment from an American about our version once that said 'it's too British'... probably the most stupid comment I've ever seen! The British version is too British!!???? LMAO
The American version is so much better. It's obvious to anyone with a brain. People who claim that the British version is better and city it's "subtle" humor might as well say the emporor has no clothes.
The emperor had no clothes but people told him what he was wearing was so beautiful, though they must have known better.
The English version of The Office is lame compared to its American counterpart so Brits talk about the "subtle" humor of their inferior version, though they know better.
@hbdywtk. That's right, (originally) you said the opposite of what you meant. Do you notice a difference at all between clothes (which are objectively identifiable) and humor (which is a subjective experience)?
"...so Brits talk about the "subtle" humor of their inferior version, though they know better."
That's perhaps the strangest opinion I have heard for a long time.
@hbdywtk Americans don't have a brain. They're stupid and fat. They stole the office and turnt it into an over the top slapstick sitcom. Typical FAT Yankees!!!
Every single version of the office from each and every country was spawned from the British version. If it wasn't for the British version, there would be NO other versions. Damn that makes me sooo smug. :-)
The original is a lot darker. It delves so much into akwardness that its almost un-watchable. You sort of feel for the characters, but the American one is loaded with stereotyping, rendering it pretty unconvincing. The UK version is a lot more than a comedy. But I shouldnt really compare, they are so so different and have different audiences.
@QuisSeparabit1977 The pope did us ALL proud by coming to our country as there are lots of idiots like you in the country. You paid for him as well, thank you from ALL of us Catholics.

The script-writing for this show is absolute genius! The segment of Brent's speech involving 'putting down' people without arms and legs is followed by his 'laughter is the best medicine' segment - does he actually expect people to join him laughing after speaking about such a controversial topic? And then at the end: 'They seemed to go for it though, didn't they'
Best comedy series ever created!!!
