  • how do they know that the video was shot at a different time and then sat there in direct line of the tree. was this a yarder job if so its common practic to fall trees side hill im sorry this kid died but he and his friends where trespassing. if people want these trees saved then buy the land and shut up leave us loggers alone im tired of enviromentlist telling people we are out there cutting every tree down just beacuse we can this is not the truth

  • @norcallogger, I know because I was there. We were just there to have dialogue with the faller, and he became enraged, started falling trees at us, and killed one of us. We tried buying the trees, but Maxxam/PL were not willing sellers; we asked them to give us a price, hold off and give us a little time to fundraise for it, but they were unwilling to compromise. The company admitted that their employee was at fault, and settled the lawsuit with Gypsy's family.

  • I grew up in Humboldt and I remember when this happened. I actually toured the coroner's office as part of some volunteer work I was doing right after this happened. The toxicology report showed that he was ripped out of his mind when this happened. It is tragic, but what do you expect! One other thing, if you think that video of the logger is legit, you don't have the common sense God gave mice.

  • I was a bit closer to the situation, I was actually there the day Gypsy was killed. I can tell you that nobody was ripped out of their minds, and that the video is completely legit. We approached the logger, he became instantly enraged, and began intentionally falling trees at us. The logger admitted it, Gypsy's family sued the company and won in an out-of-court settlement, and the company admitted liability. Intentionally falling trees at people is a crime, loggers are to call security.

  • Gypsy was my friend. He was a kind, gentle person who was willing to risk much in defense of the Earth. He helped build the Liberty tree sit in Bell creek. I grieve for him to this day and always will. A vibrant, loving life cut short. We will never forget you Gypsy.

    Always,

    Fisher

  • Thank you for posting that! I'm glad people can see this and 1, see what a beautiful person Gypsy was, and 2, see how horribly crooked, biased, and corrupted the judicial system is when it comes to human life vs. corporate greed.
