  • Carter Burwell, why are you such a perfectly perfect musical genius? <3

  • The Shawshank Redemption trailer anyone?

  • Man, the Coen Brothers had some balls to do a gangster movie that was inspired more by the 1930's period instead of the mafioso wave following The Godfather, especially knowing Marty was doing Godfellas at the time.

  • "Limerick' Lamentation" is an Irish traditional slow air. At the end of the Williamite wars in Ireland, Battle of the Boyne and all that, you had the Siege of Limerick followed by the Treaty of Limerick. The piece of music is supposed to reflect the sadness of the times, well unless you were on the winning side!!!

  • @bodhranbliss Thanks man. I appreciate the info.

  • THE LAST GUARDIAN

  • This IS "Marbhna Luimni" or "Limerick's Lamentation" in English, no two ways about iut.

I have been playing this for 40 years now......long before the film was made.

  • @bodhranbliss What is the "Limerick's Lamentation"?

  • michael corleone, jimmy conway... eat your heart out.

real gansters didnt need to suck up ta 2 bit political bosses with more hair tonic then brains.

  • Ok, so I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box. I had to watch the movie twice to get all the innuendo and relationships. Now I watch the movie once a year just to hear this theme. John Polito is fantastic in this. "We go back." Perfect.

This is the first film where I realized that the Coens excel in unfinished business. Endings that don't end. Up is down, black is white.

  • @DoctorSlo69 Can you explain what makes you like it so much? I'm genuinely interested. I've heard from many people that it takes multiple viewing to really "get" as do a lot of other Coen Brothers films. I haven't revisited this one, but films like Fargo, Lebowski, Barton Fink, and No Country were better the second time around.

  • @blablaidontcarewhour I think the thing that truly makes this film great is a main character who you can never quite crack. I've seen this movie at least 20 times, and Tommy is still a mystery to me. his motivations are known only to himself. Really, he's just a man chasing after his own hat.

  • @blablaidontcarewhour I just found your note, and I will do my best to answer your question. I like the movie because of the mood-setting music, then the character exposition scene with Leo, Tom, The Dane and, of course, the John Polito character (name escapes me right now). This scene establishes who is who; all of the characters are set in stone. Later, John Turturro comes into the mix (in a superb performance). The few other characters are excellent, too. Sorry, running out of room.

  • This is my favorite score to a movie. I love Irish sounding music and this is so epic. I'm making a playlist of my favorite 100 songs and this is defiantly going on it.

  • @RdVirus777, The theme's based on "Lamentation for Limerick". That's why you're hearing the Irish influence in the music.

  • Great music and my favorite Coen brothers movie.

  • This song was also used in the television ads for the Shawshank Redemption and Powder. The ad campaign for The Last Guardian, whatever the hell that is, is not the first to lift it.

  • The 3 people who disliked this are a couple of Eddie Dane's boys

  • @AnAgentProvocateur i agree, and they probably had grifter parents and they'll have little grifter children.

  • Thumbs up if you almost cried when you heard that music in The Last Guardian first trailer

  • @keviouk It's been about 13 years since I saw Miller's Crossing, and somehow I recognized this music instantly...

  • @keviouk that's how i found this song

  • @keviouk, There was no almost to it. :)

  • @keviouk I sure as hell did.

  • the music is wonderful.. and it does fit the theme to this film.. typical coen brothers.

anyone who thought this movie was over rated should go see jackass 2

  • It's strange, but I think this film is not as good as people says, but the soundtrack is magnficent

  • @Havezethario people says> is that english

  • you two people that did not like this better get down on your fet-locks when we get out to Miller's Crossing

  • The tune is called "Marbhna Luimni" or in English "The Lament for Limerick". It's very nice.

  • Respond to this video...

  • 2 people don't have a very good taste in music. No, that wasn't supposed to be a "_____ people" joke.

  • This tune was featured on a trailer of a video game, The Last Guardian.

  • Thumbs up from everyone who first heard this in the Last Guardian trailer!

  • @TheAtticus19 Thumbs up if you fell in love with it while looking at the tree tops and sky at the beginning Miller's Crossing.

  • This music is beautiful. I listened to this theme all day on St. Pats day in my car while driving across Kansas.

  • A masterpiece! God bless the Irish!

  • Yah, two peeps got the high hat--

  • I tried to buy this music from Itunes, but they will only sell the album. I don't want the album. I'M SICK OF THE HIGH HAT!

  • Great movie with a great matching theme. It doesn't matter if it is movie themes or whatever. Music is music. if you like it, then what else matters?

  • I thought it was from the movie shawsdawn redemption

  • Whoever disliked this song is giving us all a high hat, and I'M SICK OF THE HIGH HAT!!!

  • @Altair0115 funny!!!

  • @Altair0115 What they lack, is ethics.

  • @Rulinator Hell, I ain't afraid to say it, Leo. I'm talkin' about ETTICS.

  • Apparently we're not supposed to like movie music. To hell with "them", I love it.

  • why would they use the main theme of a film for a game trailer? it was made specifically for the film, its real fuckin ridiculous!!!! gets me angry!!!!!

  • @albatr0n why? it could garner more interest in the film.

  • @temperex thats not why they did it though

  • @albatr0n One possible reason is that the guys at sony though it was a good idea, and Carter Burtwell said ok. Kinda farfetched, i know, but we can't all have your sense of... well, whatever that is.

  • @albatr0n chill out and watch your language

  • @DORSALERO T_______T

  • @DORSALERO

what? language.. what is wrong with everyone??

  • Fantastic peice of music. Beautifully put together.

  • This song makes you feel sad...but in a good way. Make sense?

  • The 1 person who dislikes this need's to be taken out to millers crossing

  • @JuanKuzov

    Then "we'll see who's smaht!"

  • whats the rumpus

  • Only the Coen Brothers could come with such a masterpiece of movie.

  • I put this soundtrack on my christmas list and I'm getting it!!!!! Thanks Amazon. :)

  • I do my weekly food shopping to this.

  • Gabriel Byrne's hat was the main hero in this movie.

  • beautiful... music and film :)

  • This piece of music is actually based on a traditional Irish tune called 'Mairbhne Luimní' which translates as 'Limerick Martyrs',

  • This music helps me understand what beauty means and how it is defined! So nostalgic!

  • after all my searching i never gave up and i've finally found this beautiful piece of music

  • wonderfull theme, wonderfull movie. in my opinion this movie stays on top, next to The Godfather trilogy.

  • i jerk to this

  • i walk home to this

  • @xxmcneilxx bull shit

  • Ghafflebette Music!!!

    Ghafflebette Film!!!

  • I workout to this.

  • great

  • Was this music not also used in the Shawshank Redemption trailer?

  • @mintedllama Yes it was used twice. I eat cat food by the way.

  • One of the best, if not the best, gangster movies of all time. I saw the movie a year or so after it came out and I hadn't heard of it before that and it was just these surprise movies, that blows your mind without warning.

And soundtrack is great too, this gentle Irish-sounding feel fits perfectly to this movie.

  • This song + raining hard outside = ;_; <-- of joy

  • @ForelliBoy it is too epic for words.

  • Cool weird gangster movie, but then the Cohen Brothers never make standard movies!

  • Whenever I hear this, a wave of emotions rushes over me. A beautiful theme for a beautiful movie. It's like hearing or seeing something that reminds you of your childhood. It transports you to another time, another place.

  • hauntingly beautiful

  • What heart.

  • I think I'm going to watch this movie because of the song, and it was put on The Last Guardian trailer. Advertisement at its finest

  • just makes me smile everytime I hear it...

  • suits the last guardian better

  • so how many people here because they like this movie?

  • @trigun0090 I'm here because of the movie. I hope all these people talking about The Last Guardian look it up after hearing this song.

  • @JohnyJoe Seriously. One of the Cohen Bros' best.

  • is there an mp3 download anywhere?

  • It's so beauty!

  • @Bagwell20 It's so "beautiful"

  • @michaelerikson33 Thanks! Sometimes I make mistakes.

  • Carter Burwell rules! thanks for posting

  • This music is so fitting for The Last Guardian.

  • Why moan? Film trailers 90% of the time use existing film scores. I can't see any harm.

  • is this movie worth 2 buy?

  • I suppose that's a question of ethics.

  • @matthewinnj08 Yes!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @matthewinnj08 OH Yeah! I've watched it about 30 times, so I'm an expert.

  • I had more issues with how the Starwars theme was used in the football world cup (or was it european?) final a few years back - now that was an insult. But even then i'm sure they went through propper channels, so if John Williams didn't gripe, who am i to? Besides, and i recently saw Miller's Crossing - thanks to the Toriko trailer no less, and it's one great movie, but why can't people wait till the game actually comes out and see for themselves if it's good or bad before they start whining?

  • Great piece, how could I get my hands on the soundtrack with this version on it? Any suggestions?

  • @RadSub22 You can buy it on Itunes, but you have to buy the whole album.

  • Stop complaining about this piece being used in The Last Guardian trailer.. If it was used with the composer/writer's permission then that's it.. Don't waste your time arguing about it.. The music fits the game anyways..

  • @CyborgNinjaRaiden07

Right? What a petty thing to argue about. As if they composed the track and it's their intellectual property.

  • Your giving me the high hat

  • Everyone needs to just shut up about The Last Guardian using this theme. No one complains when a movie uses another movie's score.. I mean good lord guys.

  • I think the beautiful score adds an extra layer to movie and game. The Last Guardian has a significantly softer side than the Shadow of the Colossus that precedes it, and Miller's Crossing has a relatively softer side than the many mob films before it.

  • WOW!!! perfetta per un film perfetto!!!

  • They've nicked this for the Last Guardian. But it totally goes.

  • At first i thoght it was an original soundtrack from the game...xDDD

  • Youse fancy pants, all a youse.

  • hey! youse guys...youse...youse guys...shut up youse!

  • What heart?

  • nothin is what it seems to be at miller's crossing

  • Miller's Crossing is so much better than what Last Guardian will be. I am a big fan of Fumito Ueda, but a fan of the Coen Brothers as well. Miller's Crossing is so true, and beautiful, and it deserves this score much more than the Last Guardian.

  • Ones a game and the other is a movie

  • Ha-ha, yeah I know. I still judge them pretty much the same. At least, story-wise. And the power of it over all. And I think Miller's Crossing blows it out of the water.

  • yea, don't judge the game it hasn't even came out yet and plus the film and the game storywise are completley different.

  • Whats the comparison that you are trying to make...Last Guardian is a game and the other one is a movie...theres no logical comparison between the two...just because the music was used in the trailer???...that doesnt mean nothing

  • I'm comparing the stories. Miller's Crossing has so much more to say... The Last Guardian is the love between a boy and his chicken-dog-unicorn thing or whatever. I mean, I'm sure it'll be a cool game, but Miller's Crossing is more beautiful in a sophisticated way. It does deserve this beautiful score, much more.

  • Well...i cant say anything about the movie because i never saw it...talking about the song now...i dont thing they are going to use this in the game itself...its going to have an original soundtrack by some japanese composer i think...maybe Kow Otani from Shadow of the Colossus...that would be awesome...xD

  • That would be... And/or the two that wrote "You Were There" for Ico. That was a beautiful, obviously totally underrated song. That game was beautiful. Because it tackled some very real things, as did SOTC. But The Last Guardian's story... I don't know, just kind of sketch. But if you ever get to see Miller's Crossing, or No Country for Old Men or A Serious Man, do so. They are all very profound. Very beautiful.

  • and you know the whole story by watching a 3 minute trailer of a 24 hour game that was shown a year ago of a game that hasn't even come out yet?

  • ...You can read it from game sites...

  • The last Guardian! MUST BUY!

  • such a beautiful score

  • One of my favorites, music score as well as movie. Thanks!

  • makes me shiver. it really messes with you're emotions

like no matter you're emotion before listening, you'll feel a different one for the duration of the song

  • @RockingTheFro It makes me shiver too. I don't know whether to be happy or be sad, but either way, I kind of want to cry, just because of how beautiful the music is.

  • @RockingTheFro Your comment is perceptive, wonderful, and true. I hope you have had the experience of seeing "Miller's Crossing"--I have seen it and think it is quite a movie.

This (Carter Burwell) composition is so stately and so elegant--magnificent. One would think that the movie was about a great man--but it certainly isn't.

I think the elegance in the music refers to Existential Reality Itself--which I think you can see as a character in this very great film, "Miller's Crossing."

  • wonderful song always lifts me spirits

  • que epico, POR DIOS!!

le queda mil veces mejor a The Last Guardian este tema que a la misma pelicula...

  • The music suits The Last Guardian quite nice.

  • Yeah, what's up with that whole thing? I didn't really like that they did that. I mean, I think the theme is a little to happy for the film, but even so. And now it's used for the Last Guardian trailer? It's just kind of weird, is all.

  • "you ran and ran, but when you got to your hat it wasnt a hat anymore, it had turned into something beautifull."

    "Nah, it stayed a hat!"

  • ". . . And no I didn't chase it!"

  • Beautiful movie and score. This song seems to just make you feel good, thankyou for posting. "A hotdog with mustard."

  • Yeah

Sw33tSm0k3, im here for the same reason!!

  • Tick Tack

  • poor mink

  • Project Trico aka The Last Guardian brought me here rofl

  • just listening to this song makes me want to see this movie

  • think about this smart guy

  • "Sister, when I raise hell you'll know it!"

  • With the heaviest Dublin accent ever heard this side of the Atlantic.

  • "I'm sick of takin' the scrap from you Leo! and I'm sick of the high hat!!"

Black is white. Up is down.

  • Are you giving me the high-hat?

  • LOL! How many times do we hear that line in the movie?

I just bought the film on DVD, one of the best purchaes I've made in a longtime & it's just a great movie - handsomely photographed, well acted, beautiful music score, what's not to like? Don't know if this is my favorite by the Coens, but I still like this film alot. Gabriel Byrne is amazing here.

I agree, this particular music piece IS deep.

  • Team ICO used such a great theme from such a great compositor as Carter Burwell for the trailer of THE LAST GUARDIAN

  • what is a compositor?

  • Sorry, but I didn't think that the movie was GREAT. It was very good. The story was good, but I felt that it dragged towards the middle-end, like I didn't really care what was happening next. At some points, I felt like the music was a bit overbearing, especially in the opening apartment sequence. Though I do love this theme.

  • Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

    ;)

  • you're out of your element! Dude, the Chinaman is not the issue here!

  • Is there a way to get the opening scene where Caspar is seeing Leo about the Schmada Kid, and he presents Leo his insights on "ettics (ethic)?" Caspar lecturing anyone on ethics, and this is delivered, is just hilarious.

  • @SirDoktorHase Also Dude, Chinamen is not the prefered nomenclature.
