Might not be about "Alien" but just about the Space Jockeys and the old question "Did they create the xenomorph as a bioweapon or not". We might not even see an alien, although there are some shots on the trailer and the previous teasers where you see someone in pain as if having a chestburster and someone attacked by acid. I'm really excited about this movie. If the world really ends in 2012, this summer's gonna be a blast at the movies!

Ridley Scott said it's not a prequel, but after seeing this.. It looks like he just don't want to tell us too much about the movie's story (surely to keep the surprise for the fans until the release).

if u guys didnt know this is the prequel to aliens from 1980 and its from the same director and this movie shows how the space junkies in aliens( aka the aliens) started or were born so yes this movie takes place in the alien universe which is another reason why this movie is so good

Next to the space jockey there's a dude standing. He has to be a giant or something cause the jockey is supposed to be 25 foot tall. Compare how big he looks to the size of Dallas and the crew in the original standing next to it. He seems huge.

@rbh1138 Or the entered the derelict from a different position than the crew of the Nostromo did. Remember, in Alien the derelict was mostly unexplored. They returned to the Nostromo as soon as the face-hugger attracted itself to Ash's face. So in theory, the vessel could contain TWO space jockeys.

OR Prometheus could be set on another alien world, with a similar, but functioning vessel made by the same species that created the derelict vessel in Alien. SPECULATION!! :)

I hope it's not a direct prequel as in, every bit of the film is convoluted to set up a piece that you see in Alien; it get's a bit too much in other prequels. I like the talk of a broader mythology in the alien universe. It's almost like they're saying alien could be viewed as a subset of what prometheus sets up.

@Glaswegianmark I think the most likely explanation as to why it looks different is because it's a fossilized skeleton in the original Alien... just like how people have been dead for quite awhile don't look like how they used to when they were alive. ;P

There's got to be some sort of tie-in with the original Alien movie to set it all up.
