  • Why are so many people trying to teach people how to play this song when they can't even play it correctly themselves?

You are the only one on YouTube who can actually play this song properly- well done. I will keep practicing with this video until I get it. Such a beautiful piece of music.

  • nice guitar man...

    thank's for the lesson...

  • you make it look so easy D:

  • your lesson was great!!!! Thak you!!!

  • Hey man, just had one question. I see that on most of your videos that you play using all of your fingers to pluck the strings when finger picking, but on this song you use your pinky finger as a "stand" for picking. I play using this technique and just cannot get my right hand to play using my pinky for picking. It feels awkward. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can switch between the two styles? Thanks, and love the vids! Very well thought out; you put alot of work into these!

  • is it possible tha when you play slow the song you miss one hammer in the f chord ( in the third string)

  • Seriously... you made it too simple... when i was trying this song i thought i would need more than 4 fingers and a thumb to be able to play it... Good work!

  • dude i've been trying to learn this song for like five years but i kept getting discouraged and putting it down, going back to it, hating myself and my fingers, etc. but you really do a great job teaching it. thanks :D

  • Spent two months trying to learn this song, find this video, learn it in two days. Cheers!

  • great, made it a lot easier!

  • this lesson has been on you tube for a while & it's still the most like the original. it's difficult & the details are hard to hear on the record becaus of the singing and harmonica playing, but you nailed it. i first heard this song when i was 14 in 1963 when i stole the Free Wheelin album from Builders Emporium. I've been trying to learn to play it that way ever since,You unlocked the remaining parts i couldn't hear, now i have it nailed (though it can always be improved). Thanks!

  • VERY good tutorial. I thought I would never pick this up! But easy with help from you. Keep it up man!

  • This is a great tutorial great song to work with articulation and i gotta say man you just made a lot of green guitarist feel a notch better such as myself thanks dude

  • I have only been playing for about 2 years, so this was kinda a challenge for me, but your tutorial helped me so much!! I love this song, it is such a beautiful track. Thank you!

  • Very helpful. Thank you.

  • hey man really awesome tutorial! but one question at 3:31 you say "first" but play the "sixth" string :D but i guess you mean the sixth right?

  • @J2a2n yes sir, thanks for the correction

  • Thanks, vid was a help

  • very well done. u play it extremely well. what kind of guitar do u have? it has a beautiful sound

  • thnx goliath for the lesson.. go and visit my page to see how it works !

  • Nice one, ma man, ah'll tell Bob. He forgets how to play this

  • I'd "like" this several times over, if I could, man.

  • oh my god. this is a tutorial video, and i'm still taken a back at how beautiful this song still is. your picking is gorgeous

  • Damn this song is pretty hard for me... but im not giving up its too good!

  • Great Vid. I was working through the tab I found on ultimate guitar and couldn't get a couple of bits right. This video clarified it.... Particularly that little bit where you hammer-on and hit the thumb at the same time....

  • Much better than the other guy... 1,2,3,4...1,2,3,4

P.s I'm learning this with a p.o.s shit guitar that's out of tune...

  • Much better than the other guy... 1,2,3,4...1,2,3,4

  • Im just strugglin with the two high notes at the end of G ,im defo in perfec tune

  • I'm gonna make mistakes! LOL @ that.

  • Nice 1 ,is it in standard tho ? Coz that hight note doesnt sound right on mine?

  • @boblad1 you're out of tune mate

  • cheers from arg

  • What you play in the beginning it not what you actually teach. Just the basic pattern. :/

  • the way you play it at the begining of the tutorial is different than the one you show us. you little parts you didnt teach. im trying to figure them out myself.

  • Cant thank you enough! you nailed it!

  • is using the thumb a bad habit?

  • @xxjustanothersoulxx not at all

  • im lost on the original C picking pattern before you hit the g in the beginning. please help

  • thx a lot but not actually easy for a foreign ^^

  • Goliath, thank you so much for making such a great video that is not only JUST like the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan but also is very easy to follow. I'm working on it - not as good as you - but doing my best. All my best to you and yours. Thanks, Friend.

  • its like the chords from a zep song............. somewhat

  • very good...it took me about a month to get a feeling in right hand but afterwards is easy as a pie

  • Very helpful, thanks. I'm learning it the way you show it; one chord at a time. It may take me a while to play it at the tempo it was done in the studio, but this song can also sound nice slower and will be fun to learn all the way through. Thanks again.

  • three people didnt think twice before hitting the dislike button

  • @skiracrisad3 A phantastic lesson, but for non-native speaker quite difficult to understand the words. This could be the reason for hitting this button ?!

  • GREAT tutorial...finally learned this song....THANKS A TON

  • This is actually the Dylan song that made me want to learn how to play the guitar in the first place, some twenty years ago.

For fifteen years I haven't played much, but recently I started again and now it seems I've found someone to teach me this beautyful song the way it should be played! Thanks a lot!

  • AMAZING!

  • i dont think those 3 people meant the thumbs down, probably missed or something, i dont know, but dont like it, its kinda impossible

  • the best lesson for this song i think, thanx :)

  • This is fantastic, thanks for the help!

  • Cheers!

  • G0liath1012 do you know if its the same picking pattern for "girl from the north country"?

  • Thank's Goliath, finally I'm learning a song again. Started playing guitar to be able to sing bob dylan songs, and since then have only played chords, never had the discipline to really play somehing. But this always sounds so much better when dylan played it, and I can almost play it now, feels so good learn something.

Have to agree on your accent, reminds me of the guy from across the universe, whose accent I will sadly never have (dutch)

    so.. thanks !

  • oooh thats perfect!!!! you make it looks so easy! and the way you explain its unique!!!!

  • thats great that like mate, cheers man

  • Is the key E? Thanks!

  • Very good mate,

I am almost there! Got most of it in my fingers now. Just need to pick up some speed while playing it!

    Thanks a lot!

  • im in love with your sexy accent

  • thats just awesome dude...i need to amend my version on the gitbox

  • you are a champ. thankyou, I just wish i found this earlier.

  • Thanks for taking the time to put this up!<3<3<3

  • You have nailed it. Thank you.

  • woohoo. awesome lesson man you're a good teacher, thank you! i tried learning this by tabs but i couldn't get the fingering and the timing right. this helped a ton.

  • Great tutorial man, good job.

  • Man this is great, thank you for taking the time. Can't wait for what you will put online next!

  • Welllll done man. I've been trying to learn that difficult picking pattern for a while... I had it close but now with you video I've got it down pat. Thanks for not being like most people, and teaching like a (for lack of better words) douche. Straight forward, simple.

    Thanks again

  • come man , u must know that ,there no mistakes there anyway thanks so much for a great lesson, is it a yorkshire accent i hear there or a litlle closer to th pennines? anyway ,nice mate excelleant lesson...cheers

  • This is great, and thanks for taking the time to make the video; however, I think it's difficult as a newbie to get the picking pattern with out some kind of rhythm, for example, one-two-and-three-and-four. Counting this in your head really helps.

  • who would have thought that Bear Grylls would be such a good guitar teacher.

  • Thank you very much for teaching me this song. You play excellent and are a great teacher. Cheers!!

  • I don't think Dylan hits the high E-string as much on the original recording, as is done in this video.

  • could you upload a tab or something cuz i can't get that picking pattern

  • @shllapatan its 5-4-6-3-4-2 (thumb5-thumb4-thumb6-index3-thumb4-middle2)

  • @FlashingFountain

Thank you this is very helpful

  • I have FINALLY learned this song because of you. Please keep them coming!!! Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyoux10000

  • Thank you! Are there tabs to this out there anywhere?

  • Goliath mate, I like your teaching style, the direct, no waffle, no nonsense approach eh. Your tutorial is excellent, at first i have to say I was a bit sceptical, I have seen so many videos of people trying to teach this song, when they cant even play the song themselves, but clearly you master a piece before attempting to teach it. I have been tryin to learn this for years, n just could quite get it down, but wth your tutorial I am now confident I can master this in weeks. Thanks a lot m8.

  • @ourtimeisonloan Happy to have helped. Thanks for taking the time to show your appreciation

  • @G0liath1012 Apparently 3 people gave thumbs down to this video?? How can you not like it and respect it.

Very well done in my opinion. There are some very strange (and maybe jealous) people on Youtube.

  • @jimboofharrock very helpful but i could use tabs to follow while watching if you have them, i'm not too bright ya see

  • @G0liath1012 - Have followed your tutotial in depth, I have feedback:

already been spotted, but you missed the intro in your breakdown of the song, but as the rest of the song is pretty much a version of the intro, it would be good if it had a breakdown of the intro as well! Also at the beginning you play through the song full speed and I think it would be helpfull if you play through a second time at some point at half speed. As it stands, though, it's still the best tutorial on the net.

  • When you play it through the first time are you playing the intro as well? I seem to notice a difference but I wanted to make sure.

  • no intro when i played it through at the beginning, missed that out sry. well done for spotting it tho ;)

  • i could have done with this video a year ago when i was learning it

  • i'd love to learn this song, but i don't have a capo! is the capo necessary?

  • course not it will just be in a different key

  • thanks for replying & thanks for the How-To videos!

  • it costs a buck at your closest music stor

  • Fantastic job. My only worry trying to learn this song that I love, is that by the time i've learned it I will hate the friggin piece :D ..........thanks for posting mate 5*

  • very effing nice.

  • great job... thanks

  • thank you!!!!!!

  • Great job..sounds wonderful.. This is the only helpful video for this song on youtube.

  • @ZogBogbean9922 I wouldn't say that this is the only helpful video for this song, but it's certainly the only one that shows the correct way to play it ^^

  • thank you very much. really helped!

  • Comment removed

  • hey! is this in regular guitar tuning or something different?

  • @hayleythehippiechick it's regular tuned, but a capo is used on the 4th fret
