Kurt wasn't some innovative musical genius but more someone who harnessed what was there and just refined, gathered, consolidated what was already there and stuck a chord with a generation. Nirvana was significant because it just perfectly caught the moment, feeling and time. The melvins on the other hand, were genuine musical visionaries and remain fresh to this day. All members doing something exciting and fun in other bands too. Fantomas, Porn, Big Business etc etc

Where as I was into Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and Tool. But I did find friends there who were into the same as me, and now we laugh at the retards who have never even heard of the bands we listen to. Don't give up on newer music though, Disturbed still make great music, and supergroups like Audioslave are awesome too!
