@NavySEALsfreak Just keep focused. you don't have to be a super athlete to finish boot camp, its mostly in your mind. to be a SEAL and make it through BUDs however, you do need to be in great physical and mental shape, and love swimming like no other. Many will tell you its Mental more than anything. Good Luck!
I taught SM "A" school there from 97-00. Was told I'd hate it there but I loved it up there. Most fulfilling duty of my entire navy career. Helping a young sailor start their career of right and seeing them succeed is more meaningful than any medal they could pin on you.
I was there in boot camp in Nov 96-97, in fact 5 days ago would have been exactly 13 years. I liked it to, one of the cleaner bases I've been to, that and NAS Coronado.
I went in the dead of winter and the worst part for me was having the "ricky flu" in week 2. 4 of the 8 weeks was spent with a 104 temp fever. Glad I got through it tho.
i remmeber the first time i went through those gates, i hate that fucking place!! i had A school right across the street. MR's rule! hated everything but the good salmon fishing in the spring. massive fucking carp there to!
If you had a car while you were up there, and knew where stuff was, it wasn't so bad. Most of the guys there, including myself didn't have personal transportation, and relied on the base bus to take us to Gurnee mills and Great America.
yeah I went in the wintertime, if you're not used to the northern temps near the lake in the wintertime, I would suggest going during the spring or summer, or even fall. Half my company (ship) was from the south or California, and had a lot of drop outs cause they were used to the cold wind coming off the lake
have fun... it's the best. especially when you get to go to TSC GL... yeh.... unless ur an airmen. then you get to go to Florida which i hear is pretty nice. it ain't all that bad. just kinda boring. Oh and you get 13 weeks now.
lucky as hell, I missed the digis by like 5 months now you lucky fuckers get them off the bat instead of having to shell out for them, have fun not ironing
Yeah as soon as you entered those gates, you were in hell. My days there were the worst. I am so glad that im out of that place. I graduated in November of 07, but it feels like yesterday i was there.
I agree the wind sucked soo bad we had a winterfest in january and our barracks chief asked if we had the balls to go polar bear swimming so i did it and neglected the hot chocolate afterwards and walked a mile back to the barracks
LOL wouldn't compare it to Disneyland, but its really what you make of it. As long as you do what your supposed to, follow orders, and keep ur dungarees clean and press, shouldn't be bad at all.
you must have been out of shape then because navy bootcamp is easy as hell ive heard from almost everyone naval veterans and recently recruited that is a peice of cake
u just have to learn to not take it personal. in bootcamp, they're supposed to be A-holes. out in the street is one thing, but the military, unless ur a 4 star, ur gonna take some level of S$% from someone.
Dreaklock: Nightmares and Hate only happen when you do 20yrs. Every so often I'll dream that I'm on active duty and someone trying to fuck me over. then lucky I wake up and it's not true. Advice don't stay in 20 yrs.
