  • he's done on nearly every song queen did.

  • hell yeah man roger taylor always used to open his hi hats on the back beat! i wonder if he did that to make the back beat louder?

  • @ocdrumboy1 Yeah, he did to enhance the snare sound, it is his trademark!

  • @1982Rafael yeah man im a huge queen fan... they are honestly my favorite of all time... they were my first favorite band, that got me into more music and the legacy of queen! i always noticed roger did that with his hi hat....def his trade mark! gotta have the right hi hats to make that happen. i wonder how he got that going in this playing?! im sure he did it for sound but do you think that was just a coordination thing that ended up just sounding good to him. ya never hear him talk about it

  • @ocdrumboy1 Me too. I love them. I always noticed that he opened the hi-hat with the snare on the backbeats and I started to do that. Check this video: youtube.com/watch?v=3QhPVgzv0qI

  • @1982Rafael totally! those days drums used to be "buried" behind all other instruments and Roger kinda developed his signature snare/open hat. he also did that with crazy fast percussive rolls :)

  • @sunnylee84 Roger is one of the best rock drummers of all time, I tried to copy him for years. The way he plays the ride cymbal is also great, crash/riding, with a big washy sound.

  • @1982Rafael yeah, he's one of my most influential drummers when I was a little kid :). the funniest part is he puts ride far away and when he plays the bell (on the ride) it's so hard for him to reach out to the bell :D. but that's the way he played :). also he played rimshots live and when recorded he played only to the drumhead :)

  • @sunnylee84 He still influences me a lot. I'm always looking for some new bootleg to listen to him. I also watched him playing here in 2008, it was so good!

The way he plays the ride is unique, he used to have such a large kit, now his ride is closer to him so he plays it with less effort hahaha.

Rimshots all the time live. Another One Bites The Dust is so powerful live, just amazing.

    Roger really rocks!

  • @1982Rafael yeah, I love his "tube" rack toms, huge rototoms :). I just got 2011 version of Queen II, it has bonus CD, live from BBC 1974. and it's so damn powerful! reaaally heavy drumming :). you gotta check it out but I'm sure you already have :)

  • @sunnylee84 I already did!! haha

Roger's drum sound is one of my favorites. Taylor, Paice, Bonham and Simon Phillips have my favorite drum sound (and Weckl, totally different from the 80's).
