What gearing were you running? Is this a 2WD or 4WD? Did you take any temperature readings on the motor?

When I run a 3S on my Stampede (stock VXL motor and ESC), I see the Motor (with fan) hit 160 after about 10 min of hard driving. The ESC is about 140 at that point. I was told I could go with a 4pole motor or 550 (no specific model recommendation was givin) to solve the temp problem.

Have you had any trouble breaking parts in the drive line? I was going to put the Mamba Monster Motor/ESC in mine but even at 4cell lipo the system breaks stuff.That thing flies! about how fast do you think it was going? Its hard to judge from these videos. Also if your having trouble with it heating up go to radio shack and buy 2 or 3 computer heat sinks and glue them to the motor. Just one on my velineon motor makes a difference.

@MrHotty2424 The bigger the battery the faster and longer speed runs. LiPo is what's prefered with thse kind of motors, I onyly run eight cells NIMH but then again I'm only runing a 3300kv motor lol. For example, a 9.6v (eight cell) would be faster and longer run time than a 7.2v(six cell). While a LiPo will probably dominate both these batteries combind, I've never run LiPo though.

@shad2930 whichever one your comfortable with. the sidewinder is cheaper because it can only 2s lipo were as the mamba max pro candle up to 3s lipo or up to 6s by switching the BEC (which I don't know how). Its up to you. I reccomend the mamba max pro because it has more features than the sidewinder.

@shad2930 The mamba max pro system is better than the original mamba max system because it has the fan keeps the esc cooler, but there is no difference in speed between the two when using 3s lipo.

if its low.. 20c and lower no wonder why your arent impressed. it cant source enough current for the 9k motor to reach its full potential..

if your running the 9k on a regular basis invest in a better lipo.. even though it costs more it will last longer than the cheap low c rating lipo because there will be less stress on the better pack..

@chewiefttc4 You do know that It also depends on the mah rating correct? A 5000mah 20c = 100amps discharge. A 2500mah 20c = 50 amps discharge. All these people say that you need more than 20c, but really it depends on your mah as well.

the 9000kv castle is equivalent to a 2-2.5 turn the 9000kv is really ment for 1s carpet cars lighter than 2s and just as fast as a 4600kv on 2s do the math 9000 x 4.2v = 37,800rpm and 4600 x 8.4 = 38,640rpm

That motor will go faster on a smaller pinion. It may turn 100k rpm on 3s but that is with no load. It will never reach that rpm under higher load which is why he needs a smaller pinion to take advantage of that motors characteristics. One thing is for sure, there's a lot of speed still left in it once he gets the right gearing.

i have the 4x4 platinum and the original, my 2wd has a CC sidewinder 4600 in it, it used to have a sidewinder 5700, it did 40 mph on 2s geared 90/20 i believe it was. i changed to the 4600 so could run 3s, mine wheelies like mad.

@95666 I know i find that strange that the 9000kv doesn't that get hot that easily even on 3s, but I think its cogging because its should be going a little faster than it is on the video. I think higher kv motors needs a small pinion to get the most torque and top end power out if it and it will run even cooler. I wasn't to thrilled with the 5700 because I having problems with the temps. and I actually blown the 5700 with the same gearing as the 9000kv on 3s lipo which was not overgeared.

weird, that sux the 5700 motor burnt, i have 4 CC 5700kv motors, nothing ever went wrong with any of em, well, bearings on one when i drove through a 2 ft deep pond on 3s with my stampede haha
