  • This is one of the reasons I don't go to church.

  • brilliant...solemnity must be maintained. It is Calvary made ananmesis at Mass. This must be respected in the music that is played at Mass

  • Bahaha! soo, no instrument nor voices should be allowed in church?! who is anyone to say what instruments are only suitable for secular music. there's violins and choirs in secular music too.

these digs on secular music are only attacking a back beat drum set and an electric guitar.

  • Are you suggesting that there are more important things than what I like and don't like?

  • I personally prefer Gregorian chant and the use of traditional and classical instruments in mass. The mass (or any other form of worship) is not about entertainment or emotional gratification after all.

Interesting info. But maybe the presentation can be improved. There are better voices and text-to-speech software out there. ^__^

  • good stuff - we need another one on homilies, Euch ministers, cell phones, and so on

  • Ah Catholicism - one of the great religions of the 14th century, determined to remain so.

  • Excellent!

  • Why would anyone want secular music at Mass? What would be the point?

  • Impressive. A new medium for the Platonic dialogues?

  • Aww...my post (which was nothing more than a historical fact) was deleted. This makes me a sad panda, and leads me to believe that the poster doesn't actually want an openminded debate. No matter. I know him personally, and I still like him :-)

  • @rawtashk

The comment was a broad generalization about the United States of America (which has millions and millions of people) and did not add to the debate which is very narrow: what does the Church desire Re: music at Mass.

  • @LalemantPolyphonic

It's nice to see that you actually read the comment and had an understandable reason for deleting it. Too many people just see something that doesn't align with their views and delete it right away.

My basic point was that things change with the times. I'm not Catholic, and I've only been to one Catholic Mass, so I'm not an expert. I just know that things change over time. That was the only point I was trying to make :-)

  • I wish we'd never brought modern liturgical musical into the Catholic Church, I hate it with a passion.

  • @carlasue88 No it isn't because just turn it around: "People who think any style of music is appropriate for mass are only imposing their personal preference. What is appropriate is not defined by you 'anything goes' opinions." So when two opinions knock heads, what then? Well, go to the Church's official instruction, which is unambiguously against the latest fads in music.

  • I absolutely loved this. :) you deserve an award for this. :)

  • What a woman! I think I'm in love.

  • it's odd, because if they had been at a Sunday mass, then they would be sinning by being at work on the Lord's day- ha! But perhaps it was daily Mass with music.

  • Any way to get a transcript of this?

  • @MostlyHolyRamblings

A transcript has been added, as of 13 October, 2010.

  • Excellent! And well said and this will be shared. (Oh, and I like techno and the Adams Family theme song, too.)

  • Hilarious! Take that, U2charistas!

  • Why are they discussing this at work?

  • THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • I like the comment, "So is the Bible," in reference to chant being old. That is awesome!
