Actually the lives lost at Omaha has already been reduced significantly. if the Russians didnt open the Eastern Front and lured German forces away from Europe, the Allies couldnt even have landed in Europe.
@theINFESTEDd the water was shallow, but some parts were covered with craters, and when the allied soldiers jumped in some drowned, because of so much weight.
@admiralacbar999 thing is there the water was to shallow which is why the guys had to run in the water because those boats needed i think it was 6 feet of clearence and there b4 getting to shore was 3or4 feet so even if we did try to use our battle ships we couldnt get close enough to hit any body but our own men
there was a camera man that volunteered to go on with the first wave....he was filming and taking some pictures but he said that his hands were shaking so bad he couldn't re-load the film or even press the button to take a picture...when i read that in a book i was like DAMN that's intense shit
i had 7 grampas fighting in omaha beach 5 where in frist wave 2 where in 2 none died but where badly shot and thats true it was a fight for survival my grampa said he lost many good friends
We did use gunships. We bombed the fuck out of the shore with planes and our 16 inch guns, but to no affect to those concrete/re bar pillboxes. In the bombardment something like 4000 French civilians died.
this battle would have been easier without losing thousands of innocent men...there plan was to get the tanks on the shore by having the shermans with the floating devices get to the beach but... it never happened due to deepness in water...and mgs so thats why it was a fight for survival
No one has used a nuke in the history of man. There's also Super sonic jets? So? They're also used for carrying people. Stealth Bombers, they're the snipers of the air.
If you mean in WWII on Omaha Beach your wrong with numbers about 2,374 and they had a reason,Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the 6 Million Jews that were murdered,
All of the first wave was kill'd ... :( God save there soul's ... The Nazi soldier's were Soldier's who were listening order's , like all profesional soldier's in the world , all of them didn't like Hitler , or the war but still they were first soldiers ... God bless all of the soldier's who die in WW2
@FrenkieWilde I'm with Frenkie, I don't agree with a lot of reasons we're deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, but as a soldier myself I understand following orders. Some people put me in the same boat as the Nazi soldiers, but those people never have nor ever will know what it is to be a soldier. You follow the orders of your chain of command because you put the trust into their experience. I personally feel all presidents must server before they run since they are the highest form of command.
@FrenkieWilde 85% of the "Nazi soldiers" your talking about were normal Germans forced to fight, they had FAMILIES. Nazis were almost exclusively in the SS! Some people can be so thick headed, some times.
@micheil592 Im talking about the Nazi "order" like i can said Alliance soldiers ... Nazi is a political moment... You don't know what you talking about
@FrenkieWilde You can say "German soldiers" to not be offensive. I know many Germans who would kick you around for that comment. And I know perfectly well what I'm talking about, you people just aren't being clear on your meanings.
@micheil592 Im talking about the 1940-1945 soldiers , they were soldiers of the Nazi system , and they were "Nazi Soldiers" , im not offending any german , i love german people , and now in this days official Nazi system don't exist and why would they be offend.. In this day , American or Canadian soldiers when they atack as Nato , they are called Nato soldiers or Nato troops ....
@FrenkieWilde Alright, I don't realy have time for this, I'll send my German pall to talk to you. They take great offense to the word "Nazi". However, now that you have cleared up your statement I understand. HOWEVER, due to almost all Germans taking offense to the word Nazi, I try to say "German soldiers".
@micheil592 To be clear by everybody: Saying nazi soldiers may be/is very offensive for (some) germans. But: it isn't politically wrong (I MAY HAVE BAD SPELLING, I'm not english), in fact, all of the german empire was officially called the Nazi Empire.
Wehrmacht troops were mostly forced into the army, SS troops were joined by themselves, mostly sons of fanatic nazi's, like in The Netherlands, NSB(National Socialist Movement)-ers.
Practically, saying nazi soldiers is the same as saying allied
my grand father went to ww2 he was on juno side of the beach .. he never told us anything about it until the day he was on his hospital bed god was with them for sure
i luve this song :) who send a poor coment on t2io34 he tells the truth the men had god to beleive in, and he was there for them all the way till they died sadly,, god bless those troops in ww1-ww2
my grandmother and grandfather were in the country estonia born and raised when WWII happened right in the middle of germany and russia so they snuck on a russian ship to america, my father also served in vietnam he lost his best chilhood friend, my friends brother just came back from iraq today, my brother left a month ago havent heard from him, i just wish it would all end
that doesnt mean god was against ALL of the germans, id say just their evil leaders, think of all of the innocent young german men killed in ww2, dont say he was against them let alone on a side...
@potatoesnbeer Kamikaze also receive orders from their superiors! :(

Actually the battleships were more than capable of bombing the shore. A few hours after our airborne troops landed we pelted the beach.

we did you can only do so much with that we had to use landing craft and foot soldiers to infiltrate it and finally take it though

Well, not all killed. But about 100% were killed or incapacitated in the first wave.
A member of my church was a medic in the first wave, and lived to tell the tale.
