@BrainyBabe24 He's switched the order of the lyrics. In the original version he sings "Taken a violent dislike to me. I'd be foolish to ignore the possibility that if we'd ever actually met you might have hated me". In this version he sings "Hated me. I'd be foolish to ignore the possibility that if we'd ever actually you might have taken a really violent dislike to me".
That's what I meant by he'd forgotten the original lyrics, I figured you would have understood I meant that he swapped them.
It seems more to me like as he'd only swapped them round he might have tried it that way and preferred it so kept the change. I don't mind the change really, still a great song :)
I've heard he still has difficulty keeping the accent up, especially when spouting complex medical terms like cystic fibrosis, or necrotising fasciatis.
Yeah, I also prefer the one from Fry and Laurie 20 years ago, like when he made that joke about the Thames water authority, and that weird voice he put on. But I guess some changes had to be made, and he's getting on a bit, not as energetic as he was when he was younger. Blackadder is a perfect example of that, but he's still funny as hell.
It is true the original version taht he did when he was younger was soo much funnier but this was sung for a totally different audience so it had to changed
I feel sorry for Laurie, he works near constantly on House, his wife and kids still live in England and he must know there's a few hundred thousand hot Americans ready to jump his bones, temptation to say the least!
Wow,this totally amazing. He's a great piano player and singer. He's absolutely BRILLIANT as an actor. And House ,don't even get me started on House. I LOVE HUGH LAURIE 2 DEATH. He's so damn SEXY. I wish he were MINE. Hugh and Lisa 4EVER!!!!!! Andrea

It's cause he doesn't do the same wacky voice he did in the original.
Of course, if he HAD done it in front of all the hardcore House MD fans who don't know him for his old Fry and Laurie-stuff, it would quite possibly have made their heads explode. xD
I kind of like this version though. It makes it seem like a serious love song, which just makes the lyrics funnier.
@Michal950117 noup lol pathos in greek comes for feeling some of the rhetorical form to persuade using the feelings of the audience, but pathetic in english its lame, poor, of a ugly or dad performance lol
I knew about him long before House, from the Blackadder era, but I equate him with two different characters. Can't really get past the fact that House is singing this one, though.
well hugh also looks a bit too mature to do silly characters now. plus the House fans tend to see him as a very sexy man so that probably wouldn't have worked out too well...
i knw thats wat ive said on other vids of hugh.......he changed his ways too much lol.....he's good......im not saying he isn't...just not the great way he used to be :(
LMAO at some point i thought that song was related to long distance relatioships.. till he said.. BUT YOUR DEAD SINCE.. omfg ! ROFL hahahaha he's just an idol.. so flawless xD
This song, even though it's a comedic song, it's very nice =D

It's some sad. He sings a song that was nice in time that will never be again.

He seems to have forgotten the original lyrics and was making some up on the spot....like "taken a violent dislike to me" rather than "hate me"

Well back then he was being loud and he had not gotten as thick as an american accent as he has in here from being House for like four years.

How the hell is he selling out? He wrote this when he was younger. If anything it's the opposite because he's going against mainstream.
