what bullshit the 2004 debate team of michigan state david strauss was from texas and greta stahl was from new trier illinois. The 2005 chamionship debate team from northwestern was tristan morales from winston churchill texas, and josh branson from st marks texas. The 2006 debate champions from michigan state were both from texas. TEXAS DEBATE!!!!!!!

It's actually pretty insane how fast you can run a case and get away with it, as long as you enunciate well enough for the judge to understand. While I get that some people dislike speed since it throws them off, the goal is to know and understand the topic so well that you can work with the faster speeds--by the end of the year, I can usually flow the opponent's case without really listening, since I already know all the facts and statistics they are going to present.

umm okay. its not recommended that you go fast but i like too and the speed K is so bad its not even funny. Its not that big of a worry.

so like... speed isn't always good. Especially since there is even a K on speed. But then sometimes speed is good. I kind of split the difference and read a card fast but explain slow.

You dont need to speed read to be a good policy debater, where I am, if you speed it is kinda frowned upon. You dont effectivly convey your arguments to a judge by spending 20sec. reading a card and 4 minutes breathing.

Usually you don't convey a judge by reading very persuasive. That kind of debate is called LD. Speed is just the best way to use your 8 minutes speech time effectively.

Ok, well I do policy debate and I have been told that Speed isnt effective. It has worked for me to slow down and get my point across, and I can cover all the arguments made by the opposing team without having to be speeding through all of the answers and offense cards.

they try it but they cant pul it off. I answer all of their arguments in the same amount of time and get through mine as well. It isn't that hard honestly. It is about time management, if you can spend the right amount of time on the arguments that need to be spent on them then it works.
