  • i am 15y and it is the best .22 what i have shot

  • Are u sure this aint a 22mag

  • I bought one of these for £100, an unsold lot at an auctioneers.

I guess the bad press from Ruger owners has made them undesirable!

After a bit of trigger tuning, and with the right ammo, it is totally reliable and very accurate. I just won two practical matches with mine today!

I think most stoppages are caused by the wrong ammo and owners over-tightening and bending the bolt guide rods.

The ergonomics are great and frankly beat a Ruger 10/22 hands down. No need to spend cash on upgrades.

  • Got same one but it was grey :p

  • mines camoflauged

  • I have this rifle and am wondering what would be a cheap and effective scope for it. It came with a BSA red dot sight but id like to replace it with something more accurate

  • compare with Marlin 60??

  • i have same gun, but black

  • in Canada if you buy this gun it comes with a 30 round banana clip, but the bitch of it is it costs $369 here.

  • wow dude that gun is beautiful. I have a remington 597 in camo and i thought that looked really good (i still love it) but wood finish is great were did you buy it and how did it cost?

  • I love my 597 i wish remington made something similar in center fire calibers.

  • can you take down anything more than game birds and rabbits with that? not insulting it, im just wondering what kind of hunting id be able to do if i bought one of those.

  • @avatarpaintballtop No. .22s are ment for small game because anything much bigger and there isn't any game left after you shot it xD .22s are great first guns, because they have no recoil. Great for plinking at the range though :)

  • @zombiehunter96 thats what i thought. thx

  • @avatarpaintballtop No problem :) If you have any other questions that have anything to do with gun or shooting feel free to PM me. :)

  • nice rifle by the way, in Australia you cant buy semi-auto weapons any more = /

  • Quick update, I've found that the brand and type of ammunition that you use for this gun really makes a difference in how well it performs. I get terrible result from Winchester Super X, and the best ammunition that I've used for this gun came from the CCI HP MAG rounds. Those ones have yet to misfire.

  • @cschizzlefizzle

yea, most rimfires and centerfires are like that, but yea .22's can be 'picky'

mine seems to love Lapus (SK) rounds.

    cheers

  • @cschizzlefizzle I know this is old, but... I had Horrible luck with cci mini mags.. They never mis-fired, but.. In cold weather, maybe 40 F or less, they are very inconsistent with many if not half being sub-sonic.. The Winchester Super X i have had much better luck with.. Maybe in warm weather they are more accurate, but in cold weather, the mini-mags are very inconsistent..

  • @cschizzlefizzle i have found that i can achive great groups useing bulk ammo just weigh each round within .1 gr and its allmost as good as macth.

  • @cschizzlefizzle did you buy it from remington website and did the scope come with it or you had to buy it separately

  • I have found a .22WMR version of this rifle, brand new (possibly a leftover, I don't know if the 22 magnum ver. is still being made). Serious question: IS THE .22 WMR safe to shoot after a certain amount of ammo/certain length of time passes? Some manufacturers (like Ruger) discontinued their .22 mag rifle because of safety issues. Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of safey issues with the 597 Magnum version? Thank you.

  • how come your half my age and own a gun?

  • @helghasttrooper5073 Well, I'm 20... so legally I can purchase long guns lol.

  • @cschizzlefizzle sorry, im not 40 either just to let you know, my bad, lol = P

  • @cschizzlefizzle

A lot of people don't know this but it is 100% legal to own a pistol if you are under 21. It has to be gifted to you or bought privately. And legally you aren't allowed to buy common pistol rounds you have to get those from someone too

  • @helghasttrooper5073 well why didnt you get a gun, half your years ago?

  • @Dudgi66, too poor, lol. also in my state rifle licenses take ages to process. But i have one now X D. i own a savage mk2 F and a Gamo shadow 640 air rifle.

  • @helghasttrooper5073 What state that has a rifle license?

  • @TheRfagan1012 Australia, WA. The state doesnt like people owning guns, you need special lisences to own shotguns and pistols and you can only fire them at a qualified range. The only people who are keen enough to go through the lisencing process are ussually just gun nuts. Tight arse state right? = /

  • @helghasttrooper5073 how come you would ask? im 15 and own 4.

  • @kevlarsniper1 well i hope your a disciplined young man ; )

  • Impressive gun. You've sold me on it.

  • i live in germany everythings forbidden that has something to do with weapons -.-

    ,,,nearly everything

  • I will buy this gun!

  • Hey mine is the same way only it doesn't even shoot I need mine in a gun shop soon but those guns are fun

  • I have the same exact gun. The plastic 10 round factory magazines suck. They don't feed right. I sent an e-mail to Remington Arms and complained about this and they sent me a free Metal 10 round magazine and now it works fine. Although it doesn't shoot as well as my Ruger 10/22 with the bull barrel and laminated stock.

  • Really? Does it not jam as much? I tried to use the factory mag a little but it still jams if I put more than 8 rounds in.

  • i agree, i rented this exact same model at a range twice before, the plastic magazines are a piece of shit.

  • Just a heads up, real gun enthusiasts know that the guns magazine is never called a "clip". A clip was used on the M1 garand. But I am surprised the 30-round magazine works better, mine sucked, always jammed up. I've got the 597 with a synthetic stock, but your wood stock looks awesome, I'm quite jealous.

  • i got the synthetic as well and the 30 banana mag used to jam for me as well but once u work it, it gets a lot better :)

  • Usually I would call it a magazine, but in this case banana clip sounds better than banana mag. But yea, the wood stock is definitely one of the nicer aesthetic qualities of the gun. If only I were decent at woodworking, then I would put a thumbhole in it as well, but I'm not going to mess with a good thing.

  • Also for anyone wondering, I've purchased a 30 round banana clip for the gun, and it works much better than the default mag.

  • my 22 is from the 1930s or 20s,its an awesome rifle,i go rabbit hunting with it

  • its the mags dude... after you shoot a few hundred rounds the combination of the rough cheap metal that the mags are made of, and powder residue gumming up the feed ramp would make mine fail to feed.

u can take the mags apart and lightly sand the inside of the case to smooth it out and sand also the sides of the feed ramp where it contacts the metal, then lightly coat the insides of the mag with some good teflon lube.

i just got the 30rd mag 4 mine and havnt had one jam since

  • Try using high velocity rounds. They are more expansive but they do not jam in my 597.

  • I'll find the model number for you, and yea you're right someonenuu2, the stock is very nice and the barrel being heavy seems to make it easier to hold steady so its great.

  • put stock down a little.... wait nvr mind ur leaning over a fence.

  • this is the model of .22 rifle im wanting what does this cost and any good websites i can order??

  • I got this as a gift, but I've seen them at Cabela's for like 200-250.

  • thats still a damn nice rifle for that price range nowadays

  • You forgot to mention that its a 597 LS HB(laminated stock, heavy barrel). I bought mine for $309 and absloutelylove it!! The only mod im lookin to do is a target hammer to lighten the trigger pull a little. Out of the box, with a scope i had laying around, it will shoot dime size groups at 50 yards! Good luck sighting yours in! Oh yeah, mine jammed(1 outa 25) until i cleaned all the packing grease out of it, now it might "stove pipe" 1 outa 500 rounds! Happy hunting!!!!!!

  • One of the best looking 597's ive seen! Model number please?

  • i have a reming ton 597 22. cal semi auto that my grampa gave to me and it dosnt have a magazine it has a ammo tube running the length of the barrel

  • it might be dirty clean it

  • It is clean, I'm still waiting for my new magazine to come in, hopefully that will tell me if its the gun or just the factory mag that is the issue.

  • what you bought this 3 years ago and youre only useing it now???"!"!!!

  • well it was a christmas or birthday gift, I can't quite remember, but when I got it I was really busy with school and baseball, but now that college is out for the summer I can actually use it.

  • how mach $

  • for the gun? I think it was around 200, but it was a birthday gift so I'm not positive. Also, I am thinking about buying a new magazine and scope for about $140 total, 20 for the magazine and 120 for the scope.

  • if its jamming when you pull the trigger quick it could possibly be a bit of a duff ejector claw....take the bolt out n fit a round in below it and see if it fits neatly, if there is much wobble in it, get a new 1

  • federal is well known for jamming in the 597. try actual remington ammo, and i use cvi

  • I do use Remington ammunition, it comes in a 525 round box, but I have a feeling it is just the magazine, I ordered a new one that holds 30 rounds so I'll test it when that gets shipped out.

  • i use federal champions in mine and it works great, ive only put 100 in it but no problems.

  • it the magazine remington made 3 mags for the 597 the 1st 2 are crap the 3 one has a metal base the 1st 2 have have a plastic base that and what type of amno are you shooting?
