Check out the new clip of Richard Harvey's Recorder Concerto, played by Michala Petri. This was the world premiere in Oct 2009, in Hong Kong.
Funny thing is, there's a section in the middle of the clip where the orchestra suddenly sounds a bit like Gryphon. More than 35 years on, Harvey's still got the same touch.
oh s**t this song is perfect for my the game my team's working on ETHELION mmm never knew someone had this name idea thought i'm the first one lol btw you have an mp3 link for this song?
I was looking for this CD everywhere. Then I looked at a giant record shop miles away. There it was, Midnight Mushrumps and also the Gryphon album, both the Japanese 'version'. It looked as if they were laying there for thirty years. The price tag even faded out, I decided to buy them both, the sailsman sold them for 10 euro's each (he couldn't read the price tags either). Very glad I found this brilliant pieces of music.
I saw Gryphon completely blow Yes offstage when they supported them. Many of the crowd were screaming for Gryphon to come back at the end of Yes's set, so they did a joint encore! I also saw them on the Treason tour and they were brilliant then. I really hope they will do some more gigs.
Just returned from Gryphon's reunion concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Utterly jaw dropping. Truly excellent performance. Midnight Mushrumps and Ehelion sent shivers up my spine.
Brilliant, wasn't it? They were so proud of that Mushrumps performance. To keep up with any further developments (how can they just leave it as a one-off after that?), follow GryphonReunion on Twitter.
OK. Listen up. The Gryphon Reunion secret gig rumours are true! Free concert/dress rehearsal TOMORROW (Sunday 31 May) at Epsom College, Surrey, at 5.30pm!!!! -- Follow updates on Twitter (GryphonReunion)
Reunion concert on 6 June will be extraordinary. Playing better than ever, and augmented line-up with Graham Preskett is awesome, unbelievable. Make sure no-one (fans, friends, press, celebs, radio, record cos) misses this one-off event. Few tickets left at last check.
I was lucky enough to see Gryphon live at Glasgow University Union about March 1976. I then bought this album, which was later filched from me. Absolutely first calass stuff!
When I saw Gryphon at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1973 they played this tune and said that its title was "Ethel". I assume the "ion" was added on to make it seem less silly. It's really a 16th century tune with twiddly bits.
Alas my good sir, I must object to this notion! The Tourdion merely constitutes a nice, rocky intro to Gryphon's original theme, which in all its thrilling, bubbling counterpoint actually occupies the larger chunk of the songs duration, and can thus not with any measure of precision be dismissed as a twiddly bit! In respectful pedantry!
The opening section is from an old french lute piece called Tourdion. The second part is composed by the band....they called it Ethel. The names were then combined...... Richard Harvey told me this....
I had this album too from gryphon and it was wonderfully well conceived. This was in fairness more contrived than there first album but still retains its purity and originality born out of its historical musical roots. An outstanding piece of music.
why no footage-hasn't ANYONE got anything on film for Gryphon and why is No REWARD being offered- this is a classic band that deserves better recognition-glad to hear they are reuniting in the autumn for a concert at the Quuen Elizabeth Hall, London- be interesting to hear their new stuff bearing in mind their combined talents! Happy be the listeners 2008! thanks chaps once again x

Strange indeed that you've never heard about them: they were well known in those days.
