I don't know where you heard that, but I doubt that they are unreliable. It has a 1.8 liter Toyota engine, which is very reliable. The vehicle itself has very basic which means less stuff on them that can break. So Im sure they would be ok when it comes to reliability.
@tennisplaya1869, weve had ours for bout 6 months and no problems at all, only thing weve changed was the exhaust cause with a stock one it got a bit dronie when idling
If thats a later model elise then what he is doing is whats going to ruin the car. The variable valve timing switches at 6200rpm. Hes killing it by bringing it back and forth through the power band. Hed be better off just giving it smooth throttle from idle all the way to the rev limiter and then back down. Ps if you rev it to 9000 it wont hurt the camshaft. They put a rev limiter in for a reason. And the elise does have a rev limit. Its not track modified.
wont hurt the car? most cars have rev limiters. lol going 0 mph youre taking a chance on maring/scratching your piston without mass pulling against the engine.. i have an 03' 10th anniversary SVT supercharged cobra and i dont rev it to the limiter in neutral.. thats beGGingg for trouble.
it was an alrite sound, the lower revs are terrible, like not too sure but dont sound great, when it reaches the higher revs its amazing, sounds a bit like a honda.
nice car, and no it doesn't sound like a Honda. I've got an exhaust system on my Honda and it has less of a gurgle when you rev it more solid sounding.
The dual exhaust is standard on even the Toyota powered European version. You can also do a Larini exhaust on a federal Elise (US version) with 2 tips coming out the rear just like this video. So, I'm not sure which engine or exhaust this is...
no that car has a dual exhaust system coming out either side which makes it a k series rover powered elise... the 111r with the 2zz-fe engine has a twin pipe exit out the bottom at the centre of the car. the 1 main difference u can tell between a 111s rover powered one and 111r toyota powered one
Elise S2 sound whith Rover K engine is great. Big vibes at low regime ! At high revs it's good too, but not as melodius as an italian engine. K-engine is a torque engine. In a way, its sound is close to old UK engines like Triumph and MGB. I love that too. But this video is poor. It doesn't make it. Automatic level Microphone are not made for catching these sounds.

Not even close. It's the GT-S Celica engine, not the Celica GT (which is the Corolla Motor)
