Medical advancements as in cures, medications, and treatment procedures happen in labs, by pharmaceutical companies, med. students, and genetic researchers. Advancements in the field by surgeons are the only real advancements that are affected by Universal Healthcare, hey what about the guy who is working to build a small company that can't afford health insurance for it's own employees yet. You are right. The hospitals and doctors in the US are definitely as good or even better than in other developed countries. The problem is, that if I go to a hospital here, I'm not bankrupt. While people in the US have to pay through the roof to gain access to the health care system. What was it? $7000 a year per person? You have to admit that's insane.
I don't completely buy those averages per person. Anyway, I take good care of my health, so any insurance I need is nowhere near that 7,000 dollar average. Another problem with health care is that people need to take better care of themselves. Instead we have to many unhealthy people who get sick or injured too often. That helps to drive up insurance rates across the board.

I work for one the largest purchaser's of health insurance in the United States. I have to give Michael Moore credit. I deny people health insurance all the time because they cannot meet the underwriting criteria. I saw Sicko last week and it made me so proud to be a Canadian even though I now live in the US. My sister and I were both 4+ weeks premature and I had severe asthma attacks during the first couple years of my life. Medical advancements as in cures, medications, and treatment procedures happen in labs, by pharmaceutical companies, med. students, and genetic researchers. Advancements in the field by surgeons are the only real advancements that are affected by Universal Healthcare, hey what about the guy who is working to build a small company that can't afford health insurance for it's own employees yet. Where do you think those labs, pharmaceutical companies and genetic reshearchers get their incentives from? I guarantee you the government wouldn't pay half of what they get now from private companies. That's why we do lead in medical advancements because people actually get paid here. I agree that there has to be a good median here though, too many uninsured people. Inusurance companies need to be regulated; no denials for pre existing conditions, no detuctables because that's just fucking BS.

You are right. The hospitals and doctors in the US are definitely as good or even better than in other developed countries. The problem is, that if I go to a hospital here, I'm not bankrupt. While people in the US have to pay through the roof to gain access to the health care system. What was it? $7000 a year per person? You have to admit that's insane.

I don't completely buy those averages per person. Anyway, I take good care of my health, so any insurance I need is nowhere near that 7,000 dollar average. Another problem with health care is that people need to take better care of themselves. Instead we have to many unhealthy people who get sick or injured too often. That helps to drive up insurance rates across the board.

I work for one the largest purchaser's of health insurance in the United States. I have to give Michael Moore credit. I deny people health insurance all the time because they cannot meet the underwriting criteria. It would be nice to have someone in the white house that was not such a "Charlton F**K" and represented the majority of the population. I guess this country is starting to like the ideals of Charles Darwin; you would have never thought. But it is after all survival of the fittest!

Any way, from here (Spain, Europe) it seems that the US need more people like these guys, at least to put these issues on top of the table. For us it's quite surprising the US's health system, spending so much money on wars. In spain, it's so free, that we even got the brits and other europeans come to ur country for surgery... I understand the US is 6 times bigger than Spain..

I saw Sicko last week and it made me so proud to be a Canadian even though I now live in the US. My sister and I were both 4+ weeks premature and I had severe asthma attacks during the first couple years of my life. Neither of us would be alive today if it wasn't for the Canadian health care system.
