This guy is a Realtor and didn't go and fight for his mother? It seems a little odd that he is wanting to raise taxes on others and not saying how he went to protest his mother's valuation.
@racefish What? I did go fight...it took 16 months...all the way to the state. After I fought my mothers taxes at 113 S 52 that was increased almost $100k from 05-06(54% increase) I realized that many homes were (and still are) wildly under assessed.
a guy for the anti-recall effort says that he did not break any laws, but he did LIE to get the position and has done nothing but bad since he took office. they say it will cost us, i say it will cost us more if he stays. not only will he continue to do a bad job, without our interests in mind, but will cost us dearly by showing future mayors that you can lie and cheat and we will just take it. please vote to recall for the future of omaha!!!
My house assessed at $156,000 in 2003-- reassessed to $191,000 in 2008. Approximately assessed for about $35,000 more than any house on my culdesac. Tried to fight it to no avail. The median price of homes selling in my neighborhood is $165,000. This is absurd.
Omaha and the Nebraska government and courts most likely will bow to the money at any given time. They allow businesses to not be regulated (ie agriculture and telemarketing). Must be nice to be so coddled.
They all just sat there like a bunch of greedy bastards........ well i'm not going to raise my property taxes by saying something. Omaha news people suck for not taking this higher. 6 on your side my ass.
wow...this is "old news" yet no one has heard this man's story through any local news source. Omaha is ...old style boiler room/ backroom/ old boy network politics at it's best....or worst. How about control of Riverfront business opportunities by a few politicos? Who helped push it into being and is a major investor in the solitary restaurant beneficiary of the development? There could be a book on the big "names" in Omaha portrayed as great benefactors etc yet are known as total scum.
Peter Manhart is an advocate for us all! My assessment went up 203% on my small house in Benson. My whole street went up an average of 160%. I know people who have been taxed out of their homes. WE, the lower middle class, cannot continue to bear the tax burdens for the rich.
This has been going on in Omaha for far too long. Someone needs to put up a large billboard right around 72nd & Dodge and post Mr Manhart's information on it. Start putting the public spotlight on these people!
Look at them sitting back smugly in their chairs like, "whatever".... Occupy!
