  • my god, orange juice, aztec camera, the scars, tv21, the skids, the assosciates, to name but a few .what an era in scottish music. glad i was there to see them all!!!

  • Poor Old Soul, that's most likely my favourite Orange Juice song. This. Is. Cool.

  • thanks for sharing u rock.

  • Great to see this again - reminds of a million years ago when I bought the record - I was the only one who knew them and it still is so :-) Good to have Youtube now, so I am not alone - falling and laughing

  • Funny, apparently I'm the only (I know of) who knows them in my country... But who cares! They are really great (",)

  • oh yeah baby!!!

  • Parkhill, you put the BEST stuff on youtube

  • BRILLIANT!!!!!!

  • I'm a man from the English Midlands,but I absolutely LOVE jock-rock :Proclaimers,Skids,Nazareth,Jesse McRae,BLack Arrows,BCR,Rod the Mod,et al .....OJ/EC magnifico

  • I saw them live and they were fantastic. But I agree they were well known for being hit or miss...

  • Orange Juice were brilliant. This video is awesome. Thank you!!!!

  • I love Orange Juice's records from first to last, and I'm delighted to hear they're going to have a reunion, but, honestly, they were an atrociously shambolic live band. (And Edwyn Collins, a brilliant songwriter, was the worst of them: always singing out of tune, breaking strings and interrupting the concert to talk to his friends in the front row.) Anyone who ever saw them in concert will tell you the same. Their last drummer, Zeke Manyika, was the only really good musician they ever had.

"Anyone who ever saw them in concert will tell you the same."

No they won't. I LOVED them live, as much for Edwyn's patter and the feeling that it was all about to fall apart any second as for the songs themselves. They were FUN.

  • Poor Edwyn, he looks about 12 :-)

I hope he gets really well again.

  • was it the bassist's mistake at the very end of the song after everyone else stopped?

  • Pop heart felt DADA - top that. Pure Gold.

  • it amazes me how underrated Orange Juice is

  • @LeSexisme

    Very, very good this.

  • they blew it when they left postcard

the greatest band of the time

    chic meets the velvets

    beautiful

  • Thanks for posting this priceless video!! Incredible!! Thank you!!!

  • wtf?

  • Great music from such an underrated band from the 80s. The main vocalists reminds me of David Bowie.

  • jamierourketen & Gozzillacia, ya missed the point, it was OJ's joy in what turned them on that made them fantastic, I see this period as them brave in the face of convention... they always wore their heart on their sleeve, their ironic eye kept them safe - but never ruled the day. And Zeke was a brilliant comrade for sure. I love it.

  • Zeke's cool - but I think you miss the historical point- Orange Juice were brilliant - brilliant at what they did - this is not what they did, this is their silly - ( I wish it were ironic ) attempt to emulate Haircut 100 ( now that is ironic ) this, for all their ( Edwin's ) brilliance, is the very definition of selling out - and sadly falling flat on their arses.

  • pow.wow,i to tattered and torn,to see how sick you grown, perfect pop,.

  • Brilliant. Brilliant. I've loved them since 1983, never saw them play in any way. So cool.

  • Hehe... and the rough start is endearing, Edwyn looking back as the band struggles to sync up. I love watching a band live, the different feel of a song and the human interaction of the band members. It's half of music... Lip synching sucks. This is a great video!!!

  • thank you for uploading this, an extremely underrated band.

  • Oh this is awful, the point when this band lost the plot or sold out or perhaps probably both. This makes my flesh creep. It's the sound of eggs going off - oh for the pure soul music of Felicity and Blue Boy? Sod this bontempi-funk.

  • oh come on! it's not that bad a song! the performance maybe is a bit dodgy! But who could begrudge them a hit at this stage in their career after so much fantastic music! Besides, how much of the 'bontempi funk' was down to the influence of Zeke?

  • None - it was down to David McClaiment and Talcum Toss, I guess. And you're right, it's not that bad - it's worse. It's like if Bowie did a rap album it might not be "that bad" but it would be pathetic.

  • Disco!

  • Mesmerising!

  • I JUST LOVE ORANGEJUICE

  • Very nice. Thanks for posting. Saw them in 1980 when they supported (I think) The Undertones. Still on Postcard. Sounded shambolic then as well! Magnificent band.

  • spot on the undertones 1980 john o neill loved them and why wouldnt he great band and this is a great song their 4 th single 1981

  • I just heard of this band...they are INCREDIBLE!!! Upbeat and catchy.

  • Refreshing!

  • I agree, please never take this down! This is absolutely FANTASTIC stuff!

  • I agree, please never take this down! This is absolutely FANTASTIC stuff!

  • AMAZING. Orange Juice are the greatest legends ever.

  • never ever take this down!!! i love poor old soul

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • Ah! Thank you so much for posting this! I'm going through a phase of listening to Orange Juice on repeat, and Poor Old Soul is one of my favourite songs...never thought I'd find this.

  • Oh my goodness. Where did you find this? This is fantastic. I'm hoping that Orange Juice start getting a little more credit. Franz Ferdinand basically made a career off ripping off these guys. And mind you, I adore them.

  • great
