no never , they may swim into the koi but the koi usually move out of the way, some one once told me their sharp sculets on their back marked their koi, but I thing that was more likely some thing in the pond as the fish were flashing.
How fast do diamond sturgeon grow i have a 5 inch baby and wondering how fast it will grow with diet of blood worms brine shrimp and hikari sinking carnivore pellets
Hi don't know how much ,I did save all the receipts and one day I will add it all up, when the wife is out shopping , A landscape gardener estimated to do it all for me would be in the region of £40,000.
I'm in the UK and have a sturgeon farm not to far from me . some of my fish are from other pond keepers .
there are 12 sturgeon and probably some 35 to 40 koi.
that sturgeon with the white spikes (stellatus?) is gorgeous, and can grow to a manageable size (7 feet?). id like to have that in my pond, along with my paroons and pacu, but can it survive tropical weather?
they are cold water fish and require lots of oxygen, provided you cad keep loads of oxygen in the water and give them lots of space, which means they are not happy in aquariums ,
@tel51 oh wow i noticed the whites but didnt notice in your other video you also had at least 1 smooth lake sturgeon,, that is so so so cool did i also see a golden sturgeon as well? i didnt see 1 but do u have a green sturgeon to round it off ? you ever spoil your sturgeon with live ghost or grss shrimp? u know a green if u dont have already, a paddle fish 3 - 5 ft long and 1 of those truly truly giant placosthamuss ive seen would round out your probiscus fish collection nicely
the food I feed my sturgeon are all frozen food from my local pet shop.but I'll try some different food.another question.I notice that most of the tip of my sturgeons fin are turning a bit white.why's is that.thankx a lot.subscribing forsure.
hey.do you know anything about sturgeon.cause I can't find any info on them.cause my sturgeon's been acting strange lately.had it for about 2 months now and it's been acting fine since but just today he's been swinging his head side to side at times.and forming his body into a U shape.my sturgeons 10 inch long.it's a common sturgeon.
Hi there, sadly this is a very common problem, your fish is starving and will if not already, start to dissolve its own liver and kidneys , its what happens to thousands of young sturgeon all over the world , you need to feed the right food and be sure they are getting it, depends on what fish are in the pond with it as all fish love sturgeon food as it has to be very high in protein and oils.Best try feeding him with live worms water snails, chopped prawns shrimps raw fish pieces.
@tel51 I was thinking that... I don't know if I could afford to pay you for four years! The best I could offer is free food and accommodation, and tours of the Peak District.
your pond is class love the set up aswell 12 out of 10 i give it..was thinking of adding sturgeon to my pond.would they eat any young fish???ples check out my pond i built last summer
Hi thanks for that , regarding the Sturgeon I dont think they will catch a health fish they feed on worms, snails, and any small pond insect thay find but they will need to be feed with a proper Sturgeon food ,this will sink as I'm sure you know Sturgeon are bottom feeders.
hi the pond holds 8520 uk gls or 38,732 lts. the sturgeon have never laid eggs and are unlikly to, they need to be a lot older 12 even 20 yrs before they are ready to spawn
hi and thanks , there is no heating in the pond , aslong as you keep good water the fish will be fine, except if they should damage themselfs some way, I have treated them for all sorts of problems cuts and grazes and various parasites.
@tel51 Thats pretty cool. I live in Miami, do you think it would be impossible for me to have a sturgeon pond, whats your average water temp? And where did you get them? They are really interesting fish.
thanks the main problem you would have would be high temps, and oxygen lvls. at the moment my water is down near 3ºC fine for Sturgeon but not good for the koi, the highest is just over 20º .
they came from people with to smaller ponds and a near by dealer . Good luck.
hi in the wild they can reach 2.3m and over 100kg but in a pond they are unlikly to grow over 1.2m and 15kg take a look at the sturgeon web for the best sorce of info on stergeon and sterlets .
Slowly, is the answer to that question. it took me 4 years working a full time job I could only work on the pond evening and week ends, I was lucky too with free tipping of the 200 + tons of soil to dispose of . a lot of materials I bought 2nd hand but the most important part of all this is a very understanding wife, who I'm happy to say is still with me :)

unlike koi sturgeon will live on their own happily
the main thing is to give them the correct food, high protein with no wheat germ or Cereal based content , try sturgeon-web for some great info,

i am woried hes not gettin enough even though ive had him 2 years i feed my koi first with thiere food then when they are busy eating that i feed the strgion but they get distracted and eat his food is there anyway i can encorage or prevent this
Hi if you have had him 2 years he's not doing to bad, you could try using a tube to get the Surgeon food to the bottom of the pond the koi will still eat it but it dose stop them eating some while it's sinking, apart from that and feeding in different places to the koi there's not much else you can do. good luck
Sturgeon and koi get on fine, the only thing to try and monitor is in the feeding as the koi (aquatic pigs) will eat the sturgeon food as well as their own if they can.
no actually its not to bad the cost was in the build which took 4 years , running it is the cost of running 4 grundfos circulation pumps then an extra 1 for a skimmer which runs some 8 of24 hours and a larger pump for a waterfall in the summer months. 2 large uv lamps , food is the main expense as they can eat a lot in the summer.
Hi I was lucky with four of the eleven that I now have as they were given to me after out growing their owners ponds, the other seven I have purchased over the years from a Sturgeon farm not to far from where I live.
Oh apart from one albino sterlet I bought from someone closing their pond down.
wow that is a great pond, the sturgeon you have look massive id say around 3-4 ft long i have a dimond back around 2ft . do you know if they will grow to the size of your pond or just keep growing

@TimeSplittersChimp go on ebay. and you can buy a low voltage electric fence designed to stop predetor's such as cats and herons :)

hard one if you have a pond already but if building from new it can be made so cats and other predators are put off.
things like build the side up , keep the water level lower so they can not reach the fish easily and keep the water deep even at the edge of the pond
