But I look forward to see what sort of carriers Russia is ready to produce next. They have since the 1970's made 6 and were about to start 7th and 8th full size nuclear powered projects when USSR disbanded in 1991. Then much of Soviet military forces were broken up according to their nationality which took back control and secession. Still for a nation to be largest and still assert dominance now - proof by simply looking at Syrian port call and how NATO and USN backed off - is just impressive.

I know Russian navy is 2nd world's largest and by far on par with USN as far as being a naval superpower which it has always been one, continues to be one and will be so in the future especially now that they are putting their assets to real use. Hell already they're bout to launch INS Vikrimiditya for India and Ivan Gren for themselves. Gorshkov reliance on submarine and anti-ship missiles and battlecruiser I think has proven to be the wise choice over a carrier fleet. USN is easy to spot.
Russian navy is not the navy ten years ago...BBC documentaries can shove it and current misrepresentation of its naval strength in media to deceive the public is pathetic at best. With well over 60 keels laid down for future stealth class upgrade to corvettes, frigates and subs are already on their way to being built. @Namdaguda Ошибаешься. Перевооружение на МиГи - это очень хорошо. Су-33 не могли взлетать с полными баками и полными подвесами вооружения. У мигов больше грузоподъемностьпри взлете с авианосца. Те же индусы авианосец вооружат именно МиГами как раз по этой причине. Да и устарели уже эти палубные сушки, су-27 наземного базирования сейчас модернизируют до СМ3, а эти видимо просто спишут.

И вообще подумали бы лучше об укомплектовании чем то вроде ПАК - ФА морского базирования вместо МиГов. Легкие истребители на земле вероятного противника (авианосец всеже рассматривается как атакующее средство помоему) это не самый сильный аргумент.
@Namdaguda До ПАК Фы в его боевом виде еще пилить и пилить. А как истребитель морского базирования он вообще не задумывался, так что это просто мечты. Вот вы говорите легкий истребитель - это плохо. А на деле, тяжелые истребители производит только две страны - Россия и США, больше ни одна страна их не производит, все довольствуются легкими или закупают тяжелые либо у амеров, либо у нас. Не говоря уже, что МиГи меньше, и их банально больше поместится на авианосец.
@Viruner Амеры как-то с их легкими F-18 отлично себя чувствуют во враждебном небе, да и европейцы тоже. Вообще, Кузнецов как бы и не авианосец впринципе, а авианесущий крейсер, несущий на себе кучу другого оружия. Да и сравните его с тем же Де Голлем(французским авианосцем) у которого одна катапульта и никакого другого оружия. Кстати , Россия никогда не собиралась вести наступательные войны, насколько я помню, а авианосцы - именно наступательное вооружение.
@Viruner вот в том и загвоздка что "как у других" не значит лучше. Кузнецов - авианесущий ракетоносец (классификация НАТО). Проблема в том, что легкие истребители по своей сути хуже тяжелых при наступательных операциях. Можно просто доделать Кузнецова катапультой (недумаю что это невозможно впринципе) и использовать тяжелые истребители с полной выкладкой.
@Namdaguda Кузнецова не возможно переделать под катапульту. Точнее не целесообразно. На амерских авианосцах катапульта берет пар от реактора, она там часть изначальной системы. Где этот пар взять на не атомном крейсере - большой вопрос. Не говоря уже о том, что корпус у кузи не ровный из-за горки на конце, слишком много проблем чтобы его переделывать. Да и нет смысла уже Кузнецов переделывать, надо строить настоящий авианосец, а кузю тем временем перевооружить и привести в полный порядок.
@Viruner перевооружать МиГ 29мы тоже неособо целесообразно. Последние разработки тяжелых истребителей перекрывают все преимущества легких. СУ 37 ненамного слабее маневренен, нежели МиГ 35 (ну 29й чичас уже как то неудобно упоминать). Вооружение, дальность полета и тд на Сушке посильнее будет. Кузнецов по сути с МиГами станет неким аналогом Мистралей с Ми 28 и Ка 52.. тот же "хлипкий" радиус действия. При этом работа по земле слабая с МиГов. Гораздо эффективнее было бы использовать.....
@Namdaguda использовать Су 37 + Су 34. При желании переделать можно под катапульту. Просто слив денег получается большой. Но и перспектива использования МиГ убивает в нем авианосец. Да и "нормальный" авианосец надо проектировать с тем же уклоном, что и Кузнецов. Плавучий аэродром сам по себе неособо хорош. Лучше опять же сделать возможность кораблю бить и ракетами и самому иметь хорошие защиты против воздуха и подлодок. Да и походу разработка новых машин под 1 авианосец нецелесообразн

But I look forward to see what sort of carriers Russia is ready to produce next. They have since the 1970's made 6 and were about to start 7th and 8th full size nuclear powered projects when USSR disbanded in 1991. Then much of Soviet military forces were broken up according to their nationality which took back control and secession. Still for a nation to be largest and still assert dominance now - proof by simply looking at Syrian port call and how NATO and USN backed off - is just impressive.

I know Russian navy is 2nd world's largest and by far on par with USN as far as being a naval superpower which it has always been one, continues to be one and will be so in the future especially now that they are putting their assets to real use. Hell already they're bout to launch INS Vikrimiditya for India and Ivan Gren for themselves. Gorshkov reliance on submarine and anti-ship missiles and battlecruiser I think has proven to be the wise choice over a carrier fleet. USN is easy to spot.

Russian navy is not the navy ten years ago...BBC documentaries can shove it and current misrepresentation of its naval strength in media to deceive the public is pathetic at best. With well over 60 keels laid down for future stealth class upgrade to corvettes, frigates and subs are already on their way to being built. Russian navy now is focusing on China's strength because its USN counterpart is already only understood too well. It is time to compete with someone new on the world stage!

@Namdaguda Ошибаешься. Перевооружение на МиГи - это очень хорошо. Су-33 не могли взлетать с полными баками и полными подвесами вооружения. У мигов больше грузоподъемностьпри взлете с авианосца. Те же индусы авианосец вооружат именно МиГами как раз по этой причине. Да и устарели уже эти палубные сушки, су-27 наземного базирования сейчас модернизируют до СМ3, а эти видимо просто спишут.

@Viruner как бы ниодна армия мира не использует авианосцы без паровой катапульты.. кроме нас. Это не повод не использовать. И вообще подумали бы лучше об укомплектовании чем то вроде ПАК - ФА морского базирования вместо МиГов. Легкие истребители на земле вероятного противника (авианосец всеже рассматривается как атакующее средство помоему) это не самый сильный аргумент.

@Namdaguda До ПАК Фы в его боевом виде еще пилить и пилить. А как истребитель морского базирования он вообще не задумывался, так что это просто мечты. Вот вы говорите легкий истребитель - это плохо. А на деле, тяжелые истребители производит только две страны - Россия и США, больше ни одна страна их не производит, все довольствуются легкими или закупают тяжелые либо у амеров, либо у нас. Не говоря уже, что МиГи меньше, и их банально больше поместится на авианосец.

@Viruner Амеры как-то с их легкими F-18 отлично себя чувствуют во враждебном небе, да и европейцы тоже. Вообще, Кузнецов как бы и не авианосец впринципе, а авианесущий крейсер, несущий на себе кучу другого оружия. Да и сравните его с тем же Де Голлем(французским авианосцем) у которого одна катапульта и никакого другого оружия. Кстати , Россия никогда не собиралась вести наступательные войны, насколько я помню, а авианосцы - именно наступательное вооружение.

@Viruner вот в том и загвоздка что "как у других" не значит лучше. Кузнецов - авианесущий ракетоносец (классификация НАТО). Проблема в том, что легкие истребители по своей сути хуже тяжелых при наступательных операциях. Можно просто доделать Кузнецова катапультой (недумаю что это невозможно впринципе) и использовать тяжелые истребители с полной выкладкой.

@Namdaguda Кузнецова не возможно переделать под катапульту. Точнее не целесообразно. На амерских авианосцах катапульта берет пар от реактора, она там часть изначальной системы. Где этот пар взять на не атомном крейсере - большой вопрос. Не говоря уже о том, что корпус у кузи не ровный из-за горки на конце, слишком много проблем чтобы его переделывать. Да и нет смысла уже Кузнецов переделывать, надо строить настоящий авианосец, а кузю тем временем перевооружить и привести в полный порядок.

@Viruner перевооружать МиГ 29мы тоже неособо целесообразно. Последние разработки тяжелых истребителей перекрывают все преимущества легких. СУ 37 ненамного слабее маневренен, нежели МиГ 35 (ну 29й чичас уже как то неудобно упоминать). Вооружение, дальность полета и тд на Сушке посильнее будет. Кузнецов по сути с МиГами станет неким аналогом Мистралей с Ми 28 и Ка 52.. тот же "хлипкий" радиус действия. При этом работа по земле слабая с МиГов. Гораздо эффективнее было бы использовать.....

@Namdaguda использовать Су 37 + Су 34. При желании переделать можно под катапульту. Просто слив денег получается большой. Но и перспектива использования МиГ убивает в нем авианосец. Да и "нормальный" авианосец надо проектировать с тем же уклоном, что и Кузнецов. Плавучий аэродром сам по себе неособо хорош. Лучше опять же сделать возможность кораблю бить и ракетами и самому иметь хорошие защиты против воздуха и подлодок. Да и походу разработка новых машин под 1 авианосец нецелесообразн

As I conclude. 3/4 of the Russian sub flewet is rusting away in Murmansk Harbor, thre Stalin Shipyards in Gdansk is at an all-time low in staffing and funding, Janes Naval Systems rates the Russian Navy dead last in the world, and if they had to bring that mothball fleet to war-ready status, it would take longer than building new (very poor) ships. This is one case wherre quantity does not have a quality all its own. If their software were any more vulnerable, they wouldn't have a prayer.

Russia operates 233 major vessels with 142,000 personnel and more ships on reserve. Now considering that most were in docks in the 1990's you have to give time to let these ships come to full speed. This figure was taken in 2010. Fast forward to 2011 and future...with one carrier (Tbilisi class) more are planned of up to 6 by 2020. Further of 3 mistrel class will be added.

@WatsonMike Russian navy being broken up into 4 formidable groups - the Northern, Pacific, Baltic and Caspian flotilla - has the responsibility to keep peace in all waters of the world (specifically right now in Somalia where successful operations have earned respect among all nations). Caspian flotilla armed with ships like Zubr class and Rapucha for beach assault along with missile ships are perfect for protecting coastlines and I doubt low morale upon seeing them in action is on anyones mind.

As I continue. Russian morale hit bottom in 1991 but has not improved to any real extent. Most of their sailors just wanted a job of work but lack the fire and power to stand strong and do what it takes to win the battle at-sea. I hate to question the courage of Russian sailors, but as Yuri Koskanin said when he came to America, "If I had to count on others on my ship, the first thing I would do is abandon it."
That might not be a bad idea for them, considering..........

They are quick to boast their "might" but that is the weakest bluff since the deal at Show-Low Arizona. If these pushovers tried to tangle with one US Carrier Task Force, the Russian Navy would be at the bottom in five minutes flat -- and they know it. Not much of a morale builder, is it?

Have you seen the Russian Navy Lately? They are crumbling with rust as they have been tied to the same pier for 10 years straight. I watched a report on this last week. over 60% of their submarine fleet and 48% of their surface fleet are not sea worthy right now, and that number is only going to get worse. The only way a Russian ship will sink a Canadian ship is if we accidentally run into it while it's sitting on the ocean floor.

Wernher Von Braun, main rocket scientist in US & A was decorated (Nazi) German war Hero. Even 2day they use improved German WW2 tech. T 64 tank came approx.10 yrs b4 Abrams and it was most advanced tank of this era. F22 is maintenance nightmare, it takes something like 20 hours of maintenance to get 1 hour of flight. FYI - Communism fell apart 20 yrs a go
