You can get 5 gallon tanks for pretty cheap at pet stores. He'd be a lot happier with more room to swim and play. A nice heater and filter would help, too. Plus you'd have room to give him a hiding place. Cool tricks, though!
He's a lovely fish, but he looks like he needs a new home. Bowls are notorious for having low oxygen uptake because of a small surface area. Yes, he has a great deal of water in there. And yes, betta fish have working gills alongside their labyrinth organ. But I guarantee he'd be happier with a wider (even shallower) tank. He also needs some places to hide: being exposed like that can potentially stress him out. Just like us betta need their privacy every now and then to "unwind".
thats nuffing my apple snail katsuya duz this thing she haz not even been train to do this i put a thick pice of cucumber in an let it flot 4 a bit wen she see it she well go to the top and gets half of her body still on the tank an the ava half flat upsidawn on the serf-is and wate's 4 me to giv it to her then she well clime on it upside dawnand then surf around the tank wile eating on it and she well do eny thing to ride the curent from the filter i swaer on my life and all my loved one's
I trained mine to jump for food. Every day I'd hold my hand a little higher. Eventually he got to where he could jump almost a freaking foot out of the water. He'd hover near the surface, coil his little body up like a snake, and spring up. So adorable. <3 I miss him tons, but bettas from the pet store usually don't last for too long. They're usually at least 3 years old before being put on display.
@Palatard Oh, my, you've never seen how affectionate mine is!! I'm sure he wishes he were a dog or could at least come out of the water, lol, because he sure acts like one. The friendliest, most loving and personable fish I've ever known. ^^ Bettas can be real characters; they're extremely enjoyable!
@rafflesia Oh mine is too! We've had her for a couple months now and we love her! She wiggles so fiercely whenever we walk into the room and jumps up and eats off my finger, gets it the first time usually too. Betta fish really are awesome lil fish!
@AMullis003 Awwww!! Mine's named Karl (which is really a joke about the way my dad pronounces "coral"), and I've had him for almost 11 months now. :D He'll always come over and wave at you and get all happy when you pay attention to him...plays peek-a-boo in his floating log, watches and follows you, and will nip your finger as well as his food. He's even pettable sometimes. xD He's just so interactive for a fish; makes me wish I could pick him up and cuddle him without traumatizing him, haha.
@lekovic199 well good question...maybe i would jump outta the fiish bowl sucking the person's brains out and they would slowly die calling for help...then news would spread and no one will ever tap a fish bowl again
Okay obvouisly you've probably heard this all before! xD but GET A BIGGER TANK. Alot of people keep betta fish in bowls obvouisly because they are either too stupid to research before buying a betta or they are given misleading info. 1.Bettas do not live in rice paddies. (DUH!!!!) 2.Bettas need at least 2 gallons. 3.Betta fish NEED a heater because YES in fact they are tropical fish. :) Trust me they are much more enjoyble pets when they get the care they need. <3
i totally disagree with this video *sorry* why make the betta fish go under such hardship... I mean, we all know bettas have long flowing fins... it's very unfair for them to let them get food above the water considering the fact that they have such a heavy load... and btw, you have such a small bowl... consider a 3-4 gallon tank. men! -_- poor SweatPea..
you no y it's jumping rite??? well it is bc it sees it's reflection and when ever it sees its reflection it thinks theres another betta in the tank with him so it will try to attack it's reflection it mostlikely will do the same if it sees itself in the side of your tank... but this behivior will nott harm ur fish... however it is able to brethe in air 2! (but not very long SO DON"T TEST IT) lol
lol my old betta fish cookie ate cookies IT WAS WEIRD and it made him energetic LOL thats why i burried him in my back yard he was red and a big fish lived for 4 or 5 years
That reminds me of my old red betta fish Freddy who died on my birthday.He always jumped for food and followed my finger.I miss him so much.cool tricks 5 stars.
Its nice having fish who're comfortable with you, but unfortunatly everything must come to and end.
When these fish die, I have a feeling I'm going to be really upset.
Even though my other fish, Kaleb, tends to not like me as much as the one in the video, he's the first fish I've ever had to care care of on my own, and that was solely mine. So I actually feel more closer to him anyway XD
You should go fuck yourself. how would you like it if you were stuffed in a bowl and made to do stupid tricks. You are a piece of shit.

Good, but you need to teach your fish more!! Because then he'll or she'll get better :) just don't tap on the bowl because it's very loud to them!!

@KaylaxXBabyxX
1. They live in rice paddies of Thailand.
2. That bowl is nearly 2 gallons & There's only one small plant in there, so there's enough room for the fish.
3. I'm from Mumbai, India, here, all through the year, the water temperature varies from 25-28°C.
I think you should research a bit more about betta fish..

@KaylaxXBabyxX
1. Then where?
2. So many are fine like that, how do you explain it?
3. In some places, they don't, I live in Israel, tropical enough.
And no, they can't be more enjoyable, they're not cats, they don't give affection.

do not teach your betta fish to jump. mine jumped out of the water and landed on my desk and he got very sick and died
zoeylaababy 11 months ago
@zoeylaababy my betta fish jumped when i was cleaning his water into the tap drainage thingy, and i had to open the pipes to go get him ;P
he died a year later :(
it's weird, sometimes they die of very little, and sometimes they are very tough...
