It's actually very common for human CPR to cause broken ribs. You can almost be guaranteed that you're snapping the sternum when you give someone chest compressions. The theory is that it's better to suffer broken ribs than to die. A horse is just too big for chest compressions by hand to do any good. Jumping on the horse's chest is probably the closest you can get to CPR on a horse. It doesn't look nice to us but that was probably a fairly effective form of horse CPR.

They shoulda put it down the instant they saw it was haveing a heart attack.....few people survive a heart attack and since it happens less in horses they know less about helping a horse with it. Nothing could have been done for this horse.

so it might look very rude and aggresive, but with normal cpr you can't get to the heart, the chest is to strong.. so what else options are left.. even though i wouldn't go jumping, cause the chance you hit the right spot is minimal + you can't get a rhythm that way. its a rather useless panic action

@blazinghot18 those horses are worth thousands of dollars, and the owners are going to try to do all they can to save the animal. Also, the water was meant to cool hot spots, which be the face/brain region, as well as the rear (which you can see them throwing water on). It's like if your friend had a seizure, you're going to do all you can to save them before whipping out the euthanasia. Really, if it had been something you worked with your whole life I doubt you'd make that decision that fast.
