I wish people would stop assuming that gay love is somehow different from being straight. It's the exact same thing. Both me and my partner had to move to another country just to be together. He moved from America to England, I from England due to the Defense of Marriage Act in America. Six months we had to wait just to be together for a bit before he has to go back and apply for a visa. It's been nine months. Once I get a job here, we can finally get married and be together. Is that not love?

It's a beautiful film, with a devoted fanbase, and deals with these issues in a much more affirmative way than Brokeback (i.e. it ends happily!) what is striking here is that the movie's rather cool, Heather Ledger was exceptional, perfect. Ther's a whole drama behind this movie, too. But not all who admired the movie stand for gay rights or whatever (I don't, as a personal.. position). But the movie's cool. Kinda striking.

It's a beautiful film, with a devoted fanbase, and deals with these issues in a much more affirmative way than Brokeback (i.e. it ends happily!) In many ways, Brokeback is a step backwards, so it's odd that no one on here is comparing the two. You won't find so much puritanical/anti-gay comment on the Maurice boards either!

I have a gay friend who is generous and genuine- I as a Christian will judge him according to that. It is simple. It is stupid to criticize gay people purely based on religion, because there is no sin in love. I see no fault in people who are able to love anybody with their whole hearts. I see fault in people who claim they are better than others, who criticize easily without seeing their own mistakes. Loving the same sex is not a decision - any emotion if it is sincere is involuntary.

@ilovetheworldandu While I am not a Christian myself and think everyone who condemns gay people for what they are and cannot change (why would they even want to?) is an idiot, you are still wrong. The Bible most definitely condemns homosexuality. See for instance Leviticus 18:22, the Bible calls it an abomination. Not just the old testament either. Check out the Wikipedia article "The Bible and homosexuality" for more examples.

and if you look closer this movie is more anti-gay than it seems : it is after the life of a man destroyed by the fact that he's been perverted by a young, filthy lil homo (filthy because not assumed, et forcing him to betray wife and further separation etc). But for or against such rights is not what shows to be the main message/issue here. what is striking here is that the movie's rather cool, Heather Ledger was exceptional, perfect. Ther's a whole drama behind this movie, too. HL died in 2008, he met Michelle Williams on film production and in fact had a real daughter with her (kinda mystical parralel between movie and reality, complex to describe here). But not all who admired the movie stand for gay rights or whatever (I don't, as a personal.. position). But the movie's cool. Kinda striking.
