@TheTim2503 I heard of the pals system that was used in WW1 but didnt think it still applied. I also like this idea that most of the people you fight with are your friends. I didnt realise that the british armed forces had the longest training in the world. I do know that the Royal marines is aprox 20 weeks training program. I assumed that its about the same for most infantry regiments in the UK but was told diffrently. Its no wonder you and your fellow soliders are so proffesional.

As much as I feel I want to support our soldiers (and I do) I cannot help but feel that this is both a futile war, and one from which we cannot emerge victorious. You may kill every member of the Taliban in existence, but the ideology will remain. All that turns a "citizen" into a "militant" is a weapon.
I truly believe there is one way to deal with such a dispute, and that is diplomacy. The Taliban, of course, are very different from much of western society, but compromise is the way forward.
I'm an American and will always support our British allies...politicians may make our country look bad, but I support all our troops!....I got a question though if anyone may know, (I appreciate the help by the way!) Aside from their respective missions, are there many U.S. and British joint operations? Also, do the British soldiers sometimes use U.S. firearms? @metalxorxdie We worked for a while with the USMC in Musa Qaleh and I presume this is pretty common elsewhere. We used alot of US air support to, and although you guys get alot of stick it was greatly appreciated by the blokes on the ground when an A-10 mowes down half a compound full of taliban.

@metalxorxdie british and american troops do sometimes so operations together yes, normal british troops dont use m16's or m4's the sas use what ever will be the best at the time or whatever they can get there hands on. but in the field a normall british soldier wont use a m16 or m4 even if they are on a joint because the sight wont be zeroed to your eye and if you trained with the sa80 its easyer to carry on using the sa80 not suddenly swap to a foreign weapon system

@fairhillnorrie You obviously haven't done your research. Iraq is producing more now in energy production than pre-war. It's also a safer place with troops now performing more training and supervision duties rather than foot patrols. The infrastructure which got set up over the last five years in Iraq is a little miracle. Businesses are thriving and the population is beginning to get secure and well paying jobs. Iraq isn't worse, it's growth is visible and unstoppable now.

Afghanistan needs to approached with a whole new tactic. The British army need to get rid off all the bull shit and train elite small forces who can operate alone and efficiently and for long periods of time. Right now were just sending platoons out to get shot at and withdrew them. Were not taking the fight to them. Its a shame because we have the right people just the wrong tactics and investment.
In Patrol-Base Paraang, where this video was shot, there were 35 men holding off the Taliban line to the south of Khowshall Kalay. The most we ever patrolled with was two multiples on the ground. In this video... we are a 10 man section, with one journalist.

All money spent on body armor and all you get is soldiers who don't know how to use cover not a damn bit safer in that field with that flak than in that ditch without it. This video is a perfect example of why we we make so little progress in Afghanistan/Iraq over burdened soldiers barely able to walk in all their gear chasing after ghosts who are armed with a rifle and 2 or 3 mags. If we want to win this thing we need to lighten up the infantry.

@8wiskey7 The taliban observed our reaction to effective enemy fire and started putting pressure pad ied's in ditches and other obvious pieces of cover. Being light would be nice however firepower is what wins us the battle, as we cant fight a maneouvering styled assault, we simply have to pour on a huge rate of fire to kill the enemy.
Also, I saw a SCAR-H with silencer, made for sniping. Though you dont have to be a full sniper to have one. Some of the british SAS are getting them these last few years.

@JoeRaynor He's a sharpshooter, they are normal rifleman in an infantry platoon however they are given a 2 week course on the L96 and firing it. However the L96 is now being replaced by a new gucci sharpshooters weapon. To be a sniper you'll have to serve about 2 years as a rifleman before passing the sniper selection cadre which I believe is 6 weeks in Scotland.

I have a friend who served and siad once you have served in the British army you become a better person socially, physically and mentally. @TheTim2503 I heard of the pals system that was used in WW1 but didnt think it still applied. I also like this idea that most of the people you fight with are your friends. I didnt realise that the british armed forces had the longest training in the world. I do know that the Royal marines is aprox 20 weeks training program. I assumed that its about the same for most infantry regiments in the UK but was told diffrently. Its no wonder you and your fellow soliders are so proffesional.

As much as I feel I want to support our soldiers (and I do) I cannot help but feel that this is both a futile war, and one from which we cannot emerge victorious. You may kill every member of the Taliban in existence, but the ideology will remain. All that turns a "citizen" into a "militant" is a weapon.
I truly believe there is one way to deal with such a dispute, and that is diplomacy. The Taliban, of course, are very different from much of western society, but compromise is the way forward.

Aside from their respective missions, are there many U.S. and British joint operations? Also, do the British soldiers sometimes use U.S. firearms? @metalxorxdie We worked for a while with the USMC in Musa Qaleh and I presume this is pretty common elsewhere. We used alot of US air support to, and although you guys get alot of stick it was greatly appreciated by the blokes on the ground when an A-10 mowes down half a compound full of taliban.

@metalxorxdie british and american troops do sometimes so operations together yes, normal british troops dont use m16's or m4's the sas use what ever will be the best at the time or whatever they can get there hands on. but in the field a normall british soldier wont use a m16 or m4 even if they are on a joint because the sight wont be zeroed to your eye and if you trained with the sa80 its easyer to carry on using the sa80 not suddenly swap to a foreign weapon system

It's also a safer place with troops now performing more training and supervision duties rather than foot patrols. The infrastructure which got set up over the last five years in Iraq is a little miracle. Businesses are thriving and the population is beginning to get secure and well paying jobs. Iraq isn't worse, it's growth is visible and unstoppable now.

Afghanistan needs to approached with a whole new tactic. The British army need to get rid off all the bull shit and train elite small forces who can operate alone and efficiently and for long periods of time. Right now were just sending platoons out to get shot at and withdrew them. Were not taking the fight to them. Its a shame because we have the right people just the wrong tactics and investment.

In Patrol-Base Paraang, where this video was shot, there were 35 men holding off the Taliban line to the south of Khowshall Kalay. The most we ever patrolled with was two multiples on the ground. In this video... we are a 10 man section, with one journalist.

All money spent on body armor and all you get is soldiers who don't know how to use cover not a damn bit safer in that field with that flak than in that ditch without it. This video is a perfect example of why we we make so little progress in Afghanistan/Iraq over burdened soldiers barely able to walk in all their gear chasing after ghosts who are armed with a rifle and 2 or 3 mags. If we want to win this thing we need to lighten up the infantry.

@8wiskey7 The taliban observed our reaction to effective enemy fire and started putting pressure pad ied's in ditches and other obvious pieces of cover. Being light would be nice however firepower is what wins us the battle, as we cant fight a maneouvering styled assault, we simply have to pour on a huge rate of fire to kill the enemy.

@JoeRaynor He's a sharpshooter, they are normal rifleman in an infantry platoon however they are given a 2 week course on the L96 and firing it. However the L96 is now being replaced by a new gucci sharpshooters weapon. To be a sniper you'll have to serve about 2 years as a rifleman before passing the sniper selection cadre which I believe is 6 weeks in Scotland.
