  • The very reason that she is seldom seen in movies in the '60s coz the movies has become decadent like that movie of hers Lady in a Cage. She hibernated to Paris. In the golden years, i.e. '30s to early '50s, her movies reflect the class, respect and grace though it is in fact the times of world wars in the '30s and the '40s. Movies then are really entertaining and she and other big stars provide comfort to war-weary soldiers. Its a dream to see her and sis Joan Fontaine in person. Thanks.

  • Arlene looks Great here...just beautiful.

  • What a classy dame!

  • So lovely and classy--with surprising humor.

  • What a sweet woman! I adore her. I can't wait till her auto bio comes out. I'm so excited. Thank you for sharing.

    Ginger

  • @MsGinger92 Indeed, she's so adorable from youth to her old age. Lucky Lady!

  • Olivia just turned 95.

  • Yikes, Lady in a Cage is a freaky movie.

  • Only one still alive from on this show?

  • @omgbygollywow Other mystery challengers from this show are still alive... Her sister Joan, Lauren Bacall, Doris Day etc.

  • I personally feel very close to Olivia de Havilland. First we share the same date of our birthday: July 1. And she, along with her younger sister Joan, was born in Japan, where I live now. I was born on July 1, 1975; she, in 1916. I know she lives in Paris and I hope she will celebrate her centennial birthday in five years. She is one of the last actresses who witnessed the golden days of the movie industry.

May God immortalize her fame and beauty.

  • What a great gal. She's 93. My dad is 93 and currently in the hospital. A few days ago we watched together "The Heiress" on TCM in his room -- he enjoyed it so. Long live both of them!!!

  • Love Olivia, but Lady in a Cage was horrific drek. Just awful.

  • Ms DeHavilland is the only surviving lead from Gone with the Wind. Ms. DeHavilland turned 94 on July 3rd, 2010! She is truly a treasure to the silver screen.

  • she sounds like marge's sisters in simpsons

  • It's *beep* awesome that she's still alive.

  • Olivia de Havilland my all-time favorite actress. How can anyone forget her performance in The Heiress - - "Yes, I can be cruel. I've been taught by masters." WOW! I never tire of that movie. I have seen it several times. The entire cast was good and soooo authentic - - 1850s Washington Square in NYC. She deserved the award for that movie. I love Olivia de Havilland. Several people have said my mother's 1930s, 40s and 50s photos resemble her. They were both beautiful.

  • @mvnkct your quote - literally one of my favorite lines in film. That film is a masterpiece and I never get tired of it, ever!

  • Lovely, talented woman.

  • Pure class. Olivia de Havilland is an outstanding actress and such a lovely woman, truly earning her Academy Awards (especially for her exquisite work in The Heiress). The movie she mentions being in here (Lady in a Cage) is an offbeat, but still rather interesting social thriller in which she is held hostage in her own home by a group of ruffians. She holds that picture together by her compelling performance. A true original, there is no one like Ms. deHavilland.

  • @srbdirector Totally I luv The Heiress!!! Sir Ralph Richardson is awesome in that one too!!! Score is soooo good too. Miriam Hopkins so full of personality. Montgomery Clift makes you hate him. J/K Lady in a Cage is fun to watch every ten years again too. But The Heiress is a total classic. High rewatch value. :)

  • Mr. Mankiewicz is VERY SORELY missed.

  • C L A S S. Wonderful and incredible she is still with us on this side of the veil.

  • How ig is Dorothys' hair?

  • These are all great stuff. Thanks!

  • She was the Beauty! that I fell in love with in Robin Hood.

  • Olivia and Joan both are class acts...amazing how she looks the same in this vid as she does now.

  • Didn´t she played Melanie Wilkes in Gone with the wind?

  • khtx, Yes she did and she is still alive aged in her 90's.

  • @khtx yes! :)

  • @khtx Yes, she played Melaine Hamilton-their cousin in GWTW.

  • @khtx yes and on a similar note is the last surviving of the cast of that movie

  • @khtx

    yes she did

  • @khtx Yep.

  • One of the panelists is Joseph L. Mankiewicz, who wrote and directed "All About Eve."

  • "Well I had to do something, they're all four my friends!"

She is so adorable, I just love her. :D

  • oh she's wonderful!

  • What a lovely lady, a true star. Just had her 93rd birthday and living in Paris.

  • beautiful, that smile!

  • Adorable!

    Priceless! :D

  • i'll always remember her throwing agnes moorehead down that flight of stairs.

  • 'Have you ever done a strip tease in a motion picture?' She was thinking of Rita Hayworth (in Gilda).

  • She is one of the last stars from the Golden era still alive; Her sister, Joan Fontaine is still alive I believe too...they had a feud for some time...both are true ladies, stars and performers!

  • @nicksacop They had not spoken in years---usually in a family that is due to a betrayal or an accusation of some sort whether false or true. I've never known what it was about. Only heard some disagreement.

  • She was great playing the sweet Melanie in Gone With the Wind.

  • can't believe she's still with us--the only one from that movie who is

  • Utterly charming- especially the warm voice and bouncy exit. And I'm happy to say that Ms. Olivia is still with us today, currently in her 90s. Well done.

  • OOH...I LOVE SHE!!!

  • fiddle dee dee it's melly yey lovess her legend!

  • lmao. yup!

  • Olivia was probably very nice--she seems so here. i read that Bette Davis liked her and considered her a friend. She was very good in Hush..hush Sweet Charlotte.

  • "Lady in a Cage" - In the tradition of "Baby Jane" and "Dead Ringer" and "Strait-Jacket". Olivia hadn't yet made "Sweet Charlotte".

  • What's the dual role she says she's done?

  • The Dark Mirror where she played both the good and bad sister - well worth checking out!

  • i absolutely adore her. i wish she made another picture.

  • You can tell she's been living abroad, because she's used to giving several kisses, not just one.

She looks great in this clip!

  • Classy lady

  • Producer-director writer Joseph L Mankiewicz appeared as a panelist about twice. Olivia wears a great dress, though at this stage she could have worn a flour sack and look sensational.

  • That voice! Sounds like Marge's sister from The Simpsons. I would never have guessed it was Olivia.
