  • Thanks for posting these songs by the mad man Joe Walsh. A friend of mine was stationed in Germany in the early 80's and had a bunch of reel to reel tapes with the group names on the tapes so trying to find the songs I liked was tough. I could only go by the lyrics and enter them in Google and find the tunes that way. You've made it a lot easier. I've learned quite a bit reading the comments. I have some knowledge of Joe and the James Gang and always wondered how he joined the Eagles. :)

  • joe is such a down to earth guy/ his music likewise; down to earth and heartfelt. and joe's got the greatest sense of humor-

  • Joe Vitale, drummer on numerous efforts with Joe Walsh, also did a tune called "Theme from Cabin Weirdos" on his "Plantation Harbor" album. Very good album but virtually unknown.

  • Much overlooked and underrated songs from this classic album.

  • Joe Vitale was such an underrated drummer. HIS BEST WORK, in my opinion!

  • It's proper music when it doesn't NEED lyrics to give it a story, meaning or emotion.

  • Check out my video response to this... in 1984 Stevie Nicks wrote lyrics for this song and sang them... Joe has worked with Stevie a lot of her career and I believe that if this song would have been released with her vocals/lyrics... it would have been wonderful!

  • Joe's eclecticism is what's made him truly great as an artist. As a kid I'd buy every solo album as soon as it hit the music stores. The first time I heard this it just blew me away how completely different it is from everything else he's done. A truly beautiful, dreamy piece. One of those songs I where I pop the CD in, hit "repeat" & let it play & play while my my mind drifts on & I decompress from life. Thanks for sharing Brother, hopefully it's turning a new generation on to his genius.

  • Ah yes, I remember music. Real music made by real musicians that played real instruments and had real creativity and talent. Where did that concept go? And you know what? They had a good time doing it.

  • Mesmerizing music.Words cannot express how great this sounds.Amazing Joe as always.Dreamy ,dreamy music.

  • The first time I ever flew (1980?) it was in a small cecna (excuse the spelling) type plane and this song never left my head.

  • This is one of my many favorite's by my favorite artist and he truly is an artist ( this song give's me an eargasm ! LOL ) i have this in 33 LP and CD but thank you Chris for adding this to the playlist , its great to hear it with the rest of them . . .

  • When Alexis Korner did a docu-tribute to Joe in 1982, the man himself said that the recording we hear is the one-take original they did on a basic recording set-up on the boat; when they tried to better it in the proper recording studio, they couldn't so they used the original as it stood. Brilliant. Play this, 'Hills Street Blues' theme and Bruce Hornsby's '...the way it i' back to back and you'll be be in 'Seventh Heaven'.

  • Love this, thanks for sharing it.

  • thumbs up if you had this on vinyl back then. ;^)

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Great old album.Have the tape to this day.my favorite traveling tune. The way music should still be.Thanks Joe.

  • More syrupy goodness from Mr. Walsh

    any, always and spot on,,,

  • I used to hear that song over and over again - around 30 years ago. still so good.

  • @Murrdudd Love the pun bro.

  • This soooo captures being on a boat over the crystal clear ocean, water lapping on the side, seagulls calling and the sun beating down on you ..*sigh*

  • Got to be my favourite Joe Walsh instrumental

  • This takes me back to when me and a mate 'bunked' off school and went to his house to listen to his dads record collection and drink cheap beer for the rest of the afternoon. This album and one from Mike Oldfield, you might remember it also, it was called Tubular Bells, stuck in my head from the first time I heard them, Takes me back there every time I hear one of those tracks.

  • Fantastic! A little journey in music. I still remember the first time i listened to this LP. A friend said "I think you'll like this." And he was right. Do people still do that - put the album on, give you the sleeve, let the music do its thing? Sharing good music is a very cool thing.

1st time, I had no idea what was next! Every time since, I get tingles knowing Life's Been Good is up.

And it's not the best track on theLP!! There is no best track-it's a work of great completeness.GRMA Chris

  • I remember a trip to Chicago maybe 8 years ago, driving at night down some urban elevated highway & listening to the radio, and one of Joe Walsh's LPs was played in its entirety - I thought "nice" and then was slowly drawn in, until I thought: "amazing, dreamy, sweet, heavenly" -- gotta go buy some of his back catalog

  • What can I say that already hasn't been said? The guy is a legend. I will just say that there are a very small amount of people like Joe Walsh in the world! A lot of great musicians at his age have become tired and lifeless, he is still kicking some ass.

  • yummmmm........

  • To be honest, Inner Tube is so epically nostalgic it sometimes makes me want to cry.

  • Thanks. Allways loved these tunes. I remember the 1st time I heard it. Ahhhh Memories.

  • theme from a boat weirdos is my mobi ring tone & when it rings it kills me to answer, so please be patient...30yrs on & this is still my fave album of all time.

  • loved the 70's my youth, eagles,steve miller,boz scaggs,bob seger,joe walsh and fleetwood mac.great days indeed!!

  • Sublime..., truly sublime... Still, right through time, this remains one of the premiere signatures of Joe Walsh's genius. Thank you, Joe, for transporting me every time I listen to this masterpiece...

  • FANTASTIC I am transported back to my youth when i here this. Joe Walsh is a true musical genius.

  • I became enchanted by wonderful composition many years ago. For me it reaches and plays on the imagination. The effect still has not worn off. Lovely and truly amazing piece of music.

  • Fabulous! One of my favorites. Thank you for putting it out there. And now I will share it with my friends who I know do not know Joe's music. Thanks

  • what the heck does he have the guitar tuned to?standard?...open G?...open E?

  • Those of us who know Joe....Know Joe! And judging from the comments below, looks like we all know! Summer 1978...If this song doesn't take you back, you're already there!

  • solo joe walsh rocks!!!!!

  • This is a beautiful composition, That I've never heard him do before. He's so diversive in his abilities, just knocks my socks off...*

  • Joe at his quirky, brilliant best! I've always loved this and thanks for posting!!

  • at 1.25 it sounds like a dave gilmore track from an old solo album of his....This of course is a good track and album..Takes me back to when i was 14..

A time when prog rock was when it was at its best ELP, YES and FLOYD are just a couple that come to mind...

  • This was part of a string of truly stellar albums by Joe post "Gang". Everyone knows the funny stuff & hard rock stuff but the man was seriously creative and wildly eclectic.

Look for A Song for Emma about his daughter who died young, County Fair Puzzle, Down on the Farm, Pavane, Welcome to the Club. The man's catalog is rich and grossly underrated. This record and So What didn't have a "skipper" on them! All songs are all day crankable!

Peace to you other Walsh fanatics!

  • redfishradical; You are absolutely right...Joe Walsh was very, very creative...his stuff was always vastly under-rated...Oh well at least his true fans know the truth...

  • Thanks Pat! Joe's a true Pagliacci. Under the clown is a serious musician. His mother (classic pianist) gave him tests growing up where he'd have to write out all the parts in a symphony for a song she'd pick for him. It's why he did Mother Goose Suite & Bolero.

Then there was the tragic death of his daughter in the 70s which he kept out of the press. That's what Song for Emma is about, not knowing how to comfort his wife.

Keep the faith my brother! We know the true maestro Joe Walsh!

  • @redfishradical omg.. I never knew this about him :(

  • When i was 17 i was at Georgetown U hospital with cancer. when nothing else would calm me this would! I wish Joe would get away from being the "rock clown" an make a new good CD. I'll even produce it for him "All night long? not on this record". i love ya Joe

  • this was a great album - I loved these songs.

  • AAAHH THE 70s....a brilliant album every week !!

  • yes! every month bona-fide, refried great albums..especially 1978.

  • @Emin7 About the sise of it E.

  • I'm so happy I was impressed with Joe Walsh in 1971 with The James Gang,,it shows what great taste in music I displayed,,LOL LOL

    Come on he's great!!!

  • It was the 70's what can I say?

  • sweet, sweet memories of the mountains in Oregon summer of '78 this album was a must, we wore out the cassette, what a time to be alive man if we could just go back.........Sherman, set the Wayback machine for 1978 august don't forget the Thai Sticks

  • tell me more. I'm stuck in 1978. I love Oregon and her mountains and this song...please tell me more. Wherre are you from?

  • Very nice :D My father bought this album like a year ago. back in the summer, when i was home alone for 3 weeks, my uncle came by, and told me to listen this album ( im 20, and got raised well, musically :9 ) So i listened it.. haven been out my player ever since ! WonderfulL!

  • this album has helped me a lot during the past couple of years. whenever i felt alone i could turn to this and everything would be fine.

  • you should type this again......for me, its so true peace out

  • This was a period when many artists like Joe Walsh and Gary Wright were experimenting with post psychedelica rock...Great Music!!

  • I love this. It's 1978 again, and every warm, sunny September 18th ever since. If I'm not around to play it on my 50th next year (2009) I hope somebody will play it for me: somewhere in Canterbury, on the beach in Brighton, and at the promenade park in Maldon, Essex where I live now with my family. Colin. Ps. Does it ever remind anybody a bit of the 'Hill Street Blues' Theme?

  • ahhhh.....sweet memories

  • What a great album this was. I bought it back in 78.Keep rockin Joe.fjeff67

  • Thanks for posting...can hardly find this song anywhere!! :D

  • I think Joe did a companion piece called "Theme From Island Weirdos"...

  • You're right; its the last song from 'you bought it, you name it'...unfortunately i havent come across that album yet.

  • Beautiful song and excellent video! If you want, I can email you 'Theme From Islnd Weirdos'.

  • He also played on "Theme from the Cabin Weirdos" from his drummer Joe Vitale's album Plantation Harbor. I had that on vinyl back in 1980. Pretty good album, had a lot of The Eagles playing on it.

  • Wow! I didn't think I would ever hear this song again. It has rung in my head since the summer of 1980 when last I heard it. Such great memories with this one. Thank you so much for putting this one out here for us.

  • Comments and stories like yours are exactly why i decided to put up this (and hopefully more) less widely appreciated album. i may be young, but i know the memories and feelings and old song can bring back when you hear it again...cant imagine the feeling multiplied by not having heard something for about ten years longer than ive even been alive haha. it was my pleasure

  • @ChrisMcRae Thank you younger brother for the walk down memory lane.

  • i have it on cd.....just go to the store

  • One of my faves....thanks for posting!
