I am from Calgary and grew up watching Archie Gouldie. I'm not sure where the "Mongolian" stuff came fom....When Ed Whalen would interview the Stomper he would just scare everyone and make the little kids cry. I always heard that in real life he was a cool dude that loved kids.....Go figure
The most interesting thing about Gouldie was that he could deliver a facinating promo, intense and realisitic. Still, for most of his career he took on the silent personna.
Archie "The Stomper" Gouldie would have torn this kid apart if this was the mid-seventies, and Arch was in his prime! i saw him live in my town kick the crap out of guys like Abdullah The Butcher, Bret Hart, Stu Hart, Sweet Daddy Siki, Bad News Allen to name a few!
Well, I guess I do to. I worked in the Kitchen and he was really decent to us. Just a cool old man. Minded his own business as long as noone tried any stupid shit and with him, noone usually did. He had a quiet way of gaining our respect. Unlike most gaurds that try to bully you into respecting them.
When I knew him in 1999 to 2002 he was still in great shape.I think he was around 70? Still every week he rode a bicycle from Johnson City to Knoxville.Thats an 1&1/2 hr.DRIVE by car.I have nothin but respect for Archie!
You worked there? when did you? I was there in 1999 for a spell then again in 2001-2002. I worked in the kitchen and Archie was the guard. He was a really good guy,he never said a lot but didnt have to everyone respected his authority. He got respect from admiration while some COs (Not all) get it from fear.
The golden voice of the king of pro wrestling commentators; Gordon Solie, the man! I remember when Steve O teamed with Ted Dibiase and JYD and had a long rivalry with the Fabulous Freebirds on Georgia Championship Wrestling. Great matches!
It worked because cable tv wasn't in every household. A lot of angles worked because cable wasn't that popular back then. Archie never used the Mongolian Stomper in Canada.

Archie "The Stomper" was one of the best men I could ever have hopped to have worked with. I really miss working with him at the Sheriff's office.

I've always loved Archie! The National heavyweight title has always been the best looking title, to me at least.
