I bet Picard was SOOOO mad at Riker for crashing the Enterprise. It's like, " I LEAVE YOU THE DAM SHIP FOR LIKE 2 HOURS AND YOU BLOW UP HALF OF IT AND CRASH THE OTHER HALF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL, RIKER?! I realize that there was nothing Riker could do, but you got to admit, YOU would still be pissed.>(
And ya know, I view the Enterprise-D as an icon of humanity... just as the Statue of Liberty is an icon to America! You're not supposed to not blow such things up! But that is just my "logical" opinion...
The Enterprise-D deserved better justice I think... it was a quick and cheap way for her to go! Just as Riker said ,she was way ahead of her time! A starship is like a helicopter. You can hit the helicopter on the fuselage, skids belly etc. with small arms fire and it wont go down. But hit one blade and shatter it and the craft disintegrates. Starships are the same way, hit it in the right spot and boom.

and owning a 150 page technical manual of a fictional ship, seriously, you people...
great video, brought tears to my eyes, she was a great ship, sad of how they retired her, wish it was in a more peaceful way like make her into a museum as they did with voyager.
Hey, what a BEAUTIFUL video. You made me FEEL IT. I am going to favorite this and watch it again when i need some trek inspiration! If you get a chance, check out my four trek vids!
this video brings back great memories of this star trek....isnt it awkward after all the seasons of star trek, a klingon ship would almost defeat a galaxy-class starship!
Funny... mentioning about the Klingon Bird of Prey, it was the more less the reason for the demise of the First 1701 Enterprise in Star Trek III. (it was mortally wounded in a single weapons volley as well) Of course, in that situation Kirk finished her off with the self destruct sequence to avoid compromising information and technology to the Klingons such as the Genesis Device Schematics. I wonder if it is intentional or is it just a curse associated with a Starship with the name "Enterprise".
I'm sure this was mentioned before but there are so many comments that I just don't feel like going through. BUT I must say I like the teddy bear effect... HILARIOUS!!
My vote is for Enterprise -E. I just liked that design and wish the movies had been better so we could've seen more it before the reboot.
I was just watching the final episode of next Gen and Riker actually says, in the future timeline, that they had tried to decommission the enterprise 5 years prior. If it was supposed to last 100 years, as some people claim, then why would he even say that. Anyway, the Sovereign according the wiki and the encyclopedia, is the most advanced ship produced by the Federation; hence why they made it the Flag ship of the Federation. Anyway, for the movies they wanted to get rid of those 80s sets!
One issue I've seen with the Galaxy was how easy it was to cause a core breach. I just watched Yesterday's Enterprise and It only took a few shots to cause the ship to start towards a core breach( the Ent-C re-entered the rift before it blew). In Cause and Effect, a good hit to a nacelle caused the ship to spin out of control and have a core breach. Also, the damage the ship took from the BOP battle in Generations seemed a bit light, and yet, the core breached.
In Yesterday's Enterprise, it was more than a few shots. She was pummeled by 3 K'Vort class battle cruisers. She even took one of them out while protecting the Ent-C before buying it. In Cause and Effect, their shields were down. In Generations, the torpedos were passing right through the shields so she was getting her ass kicked.
There was plenty of damage...The D is a big ship. A torpedo blast doesn't look nearly as large as it would on the A, for example. But a hole is a hole and in the right place is a bad thing.
The Reliant...well, you have a point on that one. Guess that don't make 'em like they used to! :)
Just thought I'd drop a line to say I never really liked the design of the E version, too sleek and streamlined, for me the Enterprise D will always and forever be the Federation Flagship. I agree 100% with what fpsBeaTt has been saying about the galaxy class being vastly superior and more upgradeable than the sovereign class, in essence sovereign class is like windows vista, the galaxy class is a proven viable commodity like XP. Heck the Venture survived the Dominion assault to retake DS9!!
The sovereign class is definitely the most beautiful ship ever built by the Federation, but it would have been cool to have the Enterprise from the series in all of the Next Gen movies. I guess they thought that the sets built for television just didn't look good enough for features. So they got rid of it when they had the chance to bring in a sleaker design...
Sorry, but I must respectfully disagree. The sets for TNG were brilliant, and the decor far more pleasant than the Sovereign class (more cramped as well, tiny bridge). Also, I have to say that the Galaxy class is more unique, has more character and is a more attractive ship.
pp177 Galaxy class technical manual article 17.1 paragraph 1 states: The Galaxy class USS Enterprise is not a static design. Rather, it is a dynamic system that is constantly being adapted to revised mission objectives and continuing technical advances. A key element of these adaptations is an ongoing program of upgrades and refits expected to continue throughout the projected hundred-year lifetime of the spacecraft. Starfleet expects numerous significant advances in technology during that time.
If you want to quote the technical manual, it also states that the Galaxy class was designed to be upgraded for at least 100 years, a direct quote. The sovereign class is too integrated in its design, and has a far more limited lifespan in terms of being upgradable. The Galaxy simply is larger and more capable. Even with later technology, the Sovereign class reactor size is limited by its design, and thus still produces only 66% of the power the Galaxy class did at its launch.
I guarantee that no one at all can argue that the Sovereign class is a SUPERIOR DESIGN to the Galaxy class. All the comments have been "faster and has more fire power", which again has no bearing on the design capabilities. THE GALAXY CLASS IS THREE TIMES THE FREAKING SIZE OF THE SOVEREIGN CLASS! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK THEY COULD DO IF THEY MADE A GALAXY CLASS A SPECIALIZED BATTLE CRUISER!?! It would absolutely SLAUGHTER a Sovereign class. It would have 3 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF WEAPONRY! THINK!
um, no it isn't. The Galaxy class has literally three times the volume, and is longer. The E only reaches 680m because of the retarded swept back nacelles. If you disregard that, it's only about 500m long, where the D without retarded nacelles is 640m long. Face it, the E is crap, and cannot be upgraded to the extent a Galaxy class is designed to be, and the way the D was destroyed was complete and utter BS.
What the hell makes you think that a ship with THREE TIMES THE FREAKING VOLUME OF A SOVEREIGN CLASS can't be outfitted to be A SPECIALIZED BATTLE CRUISER?!? Even with its original outfit to be meant for exploration, it had a LARGER TORPEDO COMPLEMENT THAN THE SOVEREIGN CLASS! 250 compared to 150! And the people who are putting a 'poor' rating on my comment are narrow minded morons who can't understand plain English. I have the technical manuals of both, which shows a GALAXY is a superior design.
Hey dude... don't hate! The nacelles on the E aren't retarded. When they designed the ship for the Feature films they wanted something that looks super stylish, modern, and sleek; and even though it is smaller, it is one beautiful ship!!! Probably the most beautiful even built by the Federation... although the USS Voyager is a pretty beautiful design itself.
It's got nothing to do with hate, it's got to do with what's a better ship. It's like the US saying "oh, we want a destroyer instead of an aircraft carrier, since the destroyer massages my personal preference of good looks more". No, that is how someone who is retarded runs a military force, not someone who wants to have a stronger and more powerful ship. And personally, the Sovereign class is ugly from most angles, and doesn't look anywhere near as impressive, unique or beautiful as the Galaxy.
@keridog1 A followed by E followed by B followed by C followed by nonrefit followed by D... altough I might change my opinion about the D... It's changing after seeing the damn DS9 and Defiant over and OVER and OVER AND OVER AGAIN
Heh! Two Sovereign haters. They sink your comment even when you give props to the Galaxy Class. Seriously, whats wrong with liking both? The Connie Refit was a beautiful design that the production team replaced with, oh look, the Galaxy Class, And yet we all grew to love that design as much as the Connie Refit. ( we're talking as the main ship on the show, B & C never had a series) . Fanboyism towards one design is against the IDIC principle.
Lets see. you're call those that don't agree with you morons. You're praising one ship while bashing the other one. You're using a 'what if' to try to explain why one ship is better than the other. You're only source of proof is sketchy at best, and you just won't listen to any praise for the other ship. And yet, you say its not about fanboyism? You're arguments are textbook fanboy.
ok, for one, your argument is vacuous and bares no similarity to reality.
1. I don't call anyone who disagree with me morons, I call someone who gives me negative feedback a moron who obviously didn't take in anything I've said.
2. I am not using a 'what if' scenario to show that one ship is better than the other, I have simply compared what is KNOWN ALREADY, not a sketchy source of proof. This so called 'sketchy source' is the official Galaxy class technical manual released by the TNG creators
3. I won't listen to praise of the other ship? ok, that's just stupid. How could I not have 'listened', perhaps you mean acknowledged (since it is read), if I have used these comments within my own arguments and contrasted these against the features of a Galaxy class.
4. ok, sketchy sources? What sources has anyone else used to support the Sovereign class? hmmmm? I've quoted official canon for knowledge (seven seasons and a 150 page technical manual), and other people have said "it's faster":P
5. Can you define a fanboy argument for me, and site your references (which you claim I have not done, which I actually have, which shows you also haven't sponged anything I've said)? This argument is textbook logic and describes how Star Trek went down hill in Generations and for all subsequent TNG movies. It is known that the Galaxy class is three times the volume, can produce more power and speed than the Sovereign, and IS DESIGNED to upgraded with the latest technology for 100 years.
In conclusion, your whole argument is baseless, illogical and just plain dumb. You've literally tried to say "you didn't use any proof, except the series and the technical manual which Isaac Asimov advised on. You didn't listen to any other points or praise on the other ship, yet you did and contrasted every single one in your argument. I can't rebut anything, so I'll just call your argument fanboyism. Gosh, I'm so good". Yeah, sure. Whatever. lol, praising one ship while bashing the other. rofl
Your argument is based on the technical manual that is not canon. Only the movies and the tv series, except The Animated Series, are canon. The books aren't, which includes the Tech Manuals and the Encyclopedias. Yes, the Galaxy has more internal volume, it's built to carry the families of the crew with it, however your "bigger is better" arguments ignore one lesson our own Navy learned with the Battleships, and that's the fact that a bigger ship makes a bigger and easier to hit target.
1. By your reasoning, all the inconsistencies in the different series which are incorrect are canon, yet the technical manual by Gene Roddenberry himself and the people who designed the ships is not. That is completely ridiculous.
2. You don't appear to have a comprehension of the vastness of space, for the Galaxy class presenting a larger target (which it doesn't, especially not front to rear profile) is superfluous in respect of the distances ship battles take place (which are comp. targeted).
The Sovereign on the other hand does away with the families due to leasons learned from the Galaxy Class, one of those lessons is a Cruise Liner and Front Line Battleship don't mix. When the Yamato blew, it didn't just take the Starfleet personnel, but also the civilians with it. The Galaxy Class was simply trying to be too many ships in one, and was a horrible loss of life when one goes down with no survivors. But I guess to a fanboy, such a "Perfect Ship" can never go down.
You are obviously a childish obfuscator who again has failed to grasp the simplest concept that I am presenting to you, that being the Galaxy class is a superior design as a weapons platform, explorer, or any specific duty it is commanded of. (I know it's hard for you to fathom, but the Galaxy can be upgraded with the same technology the Sovereign has, and more of it, which shows that as a battleship design it is superior). It's a more efficient design for a larger ship with a smaller profile.
A childish insult would be a personal attack with no basis. However, as you have demonstrated, my calling you a fanboy is far from baseless. You're still refusing to acknowledge the flaws of the Galaxy, and the strengths of the Sovereign. Both designs have their strengths and flaws. There are no perfect ships. It is you who are flinging far more personal attacks at me than I am at you.
You have no basis, you simply disagree with the conclusion I'm making from well known facts, and it frustrates you, hence the childish mentality you are displaying so fully. You have not displayed any flaws which have not been explained to you several times, and the fact you are refusing to admit that for any purpose, the Galaxy is equal or superior. The only negative is that it requires more resources, but hey, the Federation has plenty. I have also not directed any personal attack towards you.
Superior, With Upgrades, yes, but most Trekkers hate the Galaxy-X from AGT
Equal, again, with upgrades, sure, but It is still a big target that can be overwhelmed by multiple, smaller craft, and can't maneuver ( yes, even without gravity, size can still affect agility) as well as a smaller, similarly armed ship.
The Galaxy is a great design, but you refuse to admit it has flaws, which is why you are coming off as a fanboy.
I never said it can't be upgraded, As for the Larger Ship with a smaller profile" statement, the Nebula Class fits that description better than the Galaxy.
Here's another thing for you to stew over in your little childish mind; it has been proven that for long voyages of both exploration and maintaining the integrity of a military border, the emotional and mental health of the crew is vital. The company of the family of the crew combined with sufficient leisure facilities and decor (all of which the Sovereign lack) greatly improves the moral and mental stability of said crew. Stop your childish insults; they seem to make your arguments vacuous.
I called you on being a fanboy because thats exactly what you're doing here. You either conveniently greater loss of life if one is destroyed, or find it trivial ( yet that, along with operating expenses, is why our own Navy is using Destroyers instead of Battleships to protect the carriers). As you have found, youtube limits the length of our responses, so no, I can't truly pick your arguments apart without posting multiple responses as you are trying to do.
crap typed too fast. Second sentence should read " You are either conveniently ignoring the great loss of life if one is destroyed issue, or find it trivial. "As you have found, youtube limits the length of our responses, so no, I can't truly pick your arguments apart without posting multiple responses as you are trying to do"
Crap, looks like I have no choice here but to do so as well.
Funny you use that analogy, because what you are trying to argue through faulty logic is more insane than the belief that destroyers are more powerful than aircraft carriers.
Aircraft Carriers do in fact rely on Destroyers for protection from certain threats. They in fact rely on an entire fleet called a "Carrier Group" for protection that consist of Destroyers, Frigates, and sometimes even Guided Missle Cruisers and a Fast Attack Sub or two.
"it has been proven that for long voyages of both exploration and maintaining the integrity of a military border, the emotional and mental health of the crew is vital. The company of the family of the crew combined with sufficient leisure facilities and decor"
However, If the ship is attacked or gets into a dangerous anomaly, their families are in as much danger as the they are. Do you think that is good for the crews emotional and mental health? Also, the E does have the holodecks as well.
Beautiful, just beautiful.... what a lovely tribute to the greatest starship in the Enterprise line - the Enterprise-D. The E had nothing on this gorgeous Galaxy-class starship - she was a beautiful lady inside and out. 5/5 and favorited; fantastic job!
There is no area where the Sovereign class is superior. It just comes down to whether you're the type who likes race cars in space. Sure, they look nice, but they're useless compared to what's available. Even when you take looks into account, the D is more unique, impressive and imposing than the Sovereign class, which has a shorter hull (if you take the nacelles into account you're an idiot), almost half the number of decks and less flexibility in design. The Galaxy is simply superior.
Your logic is flawed. In the Dominion War, ALL GALAXY CLASSES were UPGRADED to the standard of a SOVEREIGN CLASS in both WEAPONRY AND SPEED! Stating that "Sovereign class are much faster and have more firepower" is ridiculous. What gives it its firepower, hmmmm? THE EQUIPMENT ON BOARD! This equipment can EASILY BE FITTED TO A GALAXY CLASS, since it is 3 TIMES THE SIZE OF A SOVEREIGN CLASS! Therefore, a GALAXY CLASS can easily be made THREE TIMES AS POWERFUL!
Best ship ever. She was my "wagon train to the stars" growing up. The E is a far cry from the D. And its all Rikers fault! All he had to do was remodulate the shields and all would have been fine! lol
no you are wrong my friend it was Data's and Gordie La Forge because data asked La Forge a to put in the emotion chip that lore data's Brother had into datas head and because of that he couldnt save Gordie when Sorin beammed abourd the klingon ship it's all in the movie
You should watch ConfusedMatthew's review of the ending of the movie. Really it was Riker's fault because if the enemy found a way to penetrate the shields then why not try and remodulate them? It would have worked.
Yeah Rikers fault coz he says Deanna get everyone to the saucer section, he doesn't even attempt to eject the engine core which would've prevented the explosion which destroyed the star drive and forces the saucer into the planets atmosphere to crash land on Veridian III.
Didn't the ejection system fail, or was that from another one of the "Reset Button" episodes where the Enterprise blew, but somehow through some space/time anomaly, it was saved later in the episode?
No. They don't even attempt to eject the engine core. Riker orders Deanna to get everyone to the saucer section. They make absolutely know attempt to eject the core. I remember this vividly from the story, of course the designers wanted a new ship, but they should at least have attempted to eject the core even if it didn't work, like in episodes like Cause and Effect which I think is the one you're referring to.
Ah, Its been a while since I've seen Generations. I really only like First Contact out of the Next Gen Movies. My favorites are ST2 and ST6. 3 and 4 weren't bad either.
It wasn't torpedoed, because it showed the ships leaving orbit without firing. They probably stripped it down of all the technology and just left the space frame and all the hull and bits. It was on an uninhabited planet.
They probably removed it at some point. That planet definitely was inhabited. It was the only other M-class in that system, and data had said that it was home to a pre-industrial civilization 250 million. I just watched this yesterday. Either way, I'm sure they had people going back to remove it. It was big after all. I'm sure they would need more ships or people.
They probably dismantled it instead of removed it. Considering what it went through during the crash, It might not have been able to handle the stress of lifting it off the planet and towing it back to a starbase, which might be why Picard said it cannot be salvaged.
I like the Enterprise-E more too... But the D was the ship that carried Picard and his crew to their dreams at first, the loyal old ''father'' of the crew.
Very nice tribute to the Enterprise D. My only critique is that the video came from Picard's perspective. I know it is his ship. However, every member of his crew with the exception of Geordi has sat in the captain's chair. The Enterprise D was "everyone's" ship, as we all felt helpless when she was distroyed.
I thought of that but it was hard to make it from a whole perspective with what I had to work with. ANd, I am not the biggest fan of this song either... but it fit what i was trying to do.
Geordi did have the captain's seat and command in the episode Arsenal of Freedom (season 1). Actually he sat in both the command seats on the main and battle bridges
hehe yea for sure, its not a very good episode but its a great addition to the growth of levar burton's character into the more assertive LaForge. Might I also add, Wesley even had a seat at the chair. Two people I can think of who didn't sit in the chair was Ro Laren and Tasha Yar. Trek trivia is great eh? :P
I'm a Trek fan, but I'm a nix on the trivia, because it takes up too much time as I study a lot. As for hearing that Tasha and Ro never sat in the chair, that is news. I'm very sad that Tasha never sat in it. On the other hand, I'm pleased as punch that Ro NEVER sat in it. That woman had too much attitude, and it would have been a disaster in Disaster! ;-)
um...as a star trek fan I have no problem geeking out and watching cool star trek clips, and this one was good. But shoulda stuck to TNG clips and not used that annoying girl as the background song. Perhaps some Mozart or Bach...I so don't sound like i'm 24. lol.

"In Cause and Effect, their shields were down."
The Reliant in TWOK shields were down and it survived having a nacelle blown completely off.
"In Generations, the torpedos were passing right through the shields so she was getting her ass kicked. "
And yet there still wasn't that much damage to the ship. She had a tough hull, but that still didn't keep the Warp Core from blowing.

There was plenty of damage...The D is a big ship. A torpedo blast doesn't look nearly as large as it would on the A, for example. But a hole is a hole and in the right place is a bad thing.

So they got rid of it when they had the chance to bring in a sleaker design...
stads24 2 years ago
Sorry, but I must respectfully disagree. The sets for TNG were brilliant, and the decor far more pleasant than the Sovereign class (more cramped as well, tiny bridge). Also, I have to say that the Galaxy class is more unique, has more character and is a more attractive ship.

I know this is supposed to be touching, but I can't help but point out it seems like only the Enterprise crashes.
Sorry. ^^

pp177 Galaxy class technical manual article 17.1 paragraph 1 states: The Galaxy class USS Enterprise is not a static design.

MACAMACAMAC 2 years ago 3
Ya, but the sovereign is smaller and newer so probably doesn't have the same energy requirements as a larger Galaxy Class.... I don't know...
stads24 2 years ago
The amount of energy available is increased more than what is required.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Acutcally The Sovereign is longer abd the Gaxaly is taller so they share the record of the biggest ship

Where does it say the Soverreign doesn't have 100 year life span? and honestly where did you get the weaker power Idea
Revkor 2 years ago
THINK!

I like the D because its big, and flagships ought to be BIG.
f38stingray 2 years ago 3
E is just as big and longer
keridog1 2 years ago
um, no it isn't. The Galaxy class has literally three times the volume, and is longer. The E only reaches 680m because of the retarded swept back nacelles. If you disregard that, it's only about 500m long, where the D without retarded nacelles is 640m long. Face it, the E is crap, and cannot be upgraded to the extent a Galaxy class is designed to be, and the way the D was destroyed was complete and utter BS.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
galaxy class was designed as a ship ment for exploration and could defend itself and carried children and families
soverign class ships were designed as Battle Cruisers and only had starfleet personeel on it
keridog1 2 years ago 2
What the hell makes you think that a ship with THREE TIMES THE FREAKING VOLUME OF A SOVEREIGN CLASS can't be outfitted to be A SPECIALIZED BATTLE CRUISER?!? Even with its original outfit to be meant for exploration, it had a LARGER TORPEDO COMPLEMENT THAN THE SOVEREIGN CLASS! 250 compared to 150! And the people who are putting a 'poor' rating on my comment are narrow minded morons who can't understand plain English. I have the technical manuals of both, which shows a GALAXY is a superior design.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Hey dude... don't hate! The nacelles on the E aren't retarded. When they designed the ship for the Feature films they wanted something that looks super stylish, modern, and sleek; and even though it is smaller, it is one beautiful ship!!! Probably the most beautiful even built by the Federation... although the USS Voyager is a pretty beautiful design itself.
stads24 2 years ago 4
It's got nothing to do with hate, it's got to do with what's a better ship. It's like the US saying "oh, we want a destroyer instead of an aircraft carrier, since the destroyer massages my personal preference of good looks more". No, that is how someone who is retarded runs a military force, not someone who wants to have a stronger and more powerful ship. And personally, the Sovereign class is ugly from most angles, and doesn't look anywhere near as impressive, unique or beautiful as the Galaxy.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Wow... it's just a TV show.

StelarCF 1 year ago
Scioneer 2 years ago
It has nothing to do with 'fanboyism'. The Galaxy class is simply a superior design.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Lets see. you're call those that don't agree with you morons.
Scioneer 2 years ago
ok, for one, your argument is vacuous and bares no similarity to reality.
This so called 'sketchy source' is the official Galaxy class technical manual released by the TNG creators
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
3. I won't listen to praise of the other ship? ok, that's just stupid. How could I not have 'listened', perhaps you mean acknowledged (since it is read), if I have used these comments within my own arguments and contrasted these against the features of a Galaxy class.
4. ok, sketchy sources? What sources has anyone else used to support the Sovereign class? hmmmm? I've quoted official canon for knowledge (seven seasons and a 150 page technical manual), and other people have said "it's faster":P
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
5. Can you define a fanboy argument for me, and site your references (which you claim I have not done, which I actually have, which shows you also haven't sponged anything I've said)? This argument is textbook logic and describes how Star Trek went down hill in Generations and for all subsequent TNG movies. It is known that the Galaxy class is three times the volume, can produce more power and speed than the Sovereign, and IS DESIGNED to upgraded with the latest technology for 100 years.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
In conclusion, your whole argument is baseless, illogical and just plain dumb. You've literally tried to say "you didn't use any proof, except the series and the technical manual which Isaac Asimov advised on. You didn't listen to any other points or praise on the other ship, yet you did and contrasted every single one in your argument. I can't rebut anything, so I'll just call your argument fanboyism. Gosh, I'm so good". Yeah, sure. Whatever. lol, praising one ship while bashing the other. rofl
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Your argument is based on the technical manual that is not canon. Only the movies and the tv series, except The Animated Series, are canon. The books aren't, which includes the Tech Manuals and the Encyclopedias. Yes, the Galaxy has more internal volume, it's built to carry the families of the crew with it, however your "bigger is better" arguments ignore one lesson our own Navy learned with the Battleships, and that's the fact that a bigger ship makes a bigger and easier to hit target.
Scioneer 2 years ago
1. By your reasoning, all the inconsistencies in the different series which are incorrect are canon, yet the technical manual by Gene Roddenberry himself and the people who designed the ships is not. That is completely ridiculous.
2. You don't appear to have a comprehension of the vastness of space, for the Galaxy class presenting a larger target (which it doesn't, especially not front to rear profile) is superfluous in respect of the distances ship battles take place (which are comp. targeted).
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Second attempt, hopefully this one won't disappear.
"You don't appear to have a comprehension of the vastness of space"
Yes, I do, however, the FX teams and writers are guilty of that, except for a few battles in TOS like "Balance of Terror"
"which are comp. targeted"
Computers can fail, and have in the series, and in which case the target profile will matter when the manual backups have to be used.
And to some extent, even the computer will have an easier time targeting a larger target.
Scioneer 2 years ago
The Sovereign on the other hand does away with the families due to leasons learned from the Galaxy Class, one of those lessons is a Cruise Liner and Front Line Battleship don't mix. When the Yamato blew, it didn't just take the Starfleet personnel, but also the civilians with it. The Galaxy Class was simply trying to be too many ships in one, and was a horrible loss of life when one goes down with no survivors. But I guess to a fanboy, such a "Perfect Ship" can never go down.
Scioneer 2 years ago
You are obviously a childish obfuscator who again has failed to grasp the simplest concept that I am presenting to you, that being the Galaxy class is a superior design as a weapons platform, explorer, or any specific duty it is commanded of. (I know it's hard for you to fathom, but the Galaxy can be upgraded with the same technology the Sovereign has, and more of it, which shows that as a battleship design it is superior). It's a more efficient design for a larger ship with a smaller profile.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
A childish insult would be a personal attack with no basis. However, as you have demonstrated, my calling you a fanboy is far from baseless. You're still refusing to acknowledge the flaws of the Galaxy, and the strengths of the Sovereign. Both designs have their strengths and flaws. There are no perfect ships. It is you who are flinging far more personal attacks at me than I am at you.
Scioneer 2 years ago
You have no basis, you simply disagree with the conclusion I'm making from well known facts, and it frustrates you, hence the childish mentality you are displaying so fully. You have not displayed any flaws which have not been explained to you several times, and the fact you are refusing to admit that for any purpose, the Galaxy is equal or superior. The only negative is that it requires more resources, but hey, the Federation has plenty. I have also not directed any personal attack towards you.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
" the Galaxy is equal or superior"
Superior, With Upgrades, yes, but most Trekkers hate the Galaxy-X from AGT
Equal, again, with upgrades, sure, but It is still a big target that can be overwhelmed by multiple, smaller craft, and can't maneuver ( yes, even without gravity, size can still affect agility) as well as a smaller, similarly armed ship.
The Galaxy is a great design, but you refuse to admit it has flaws, which is why you are coming off as a fanboy.
Scioneer 2 years ago
"and it frustrates you"
Only thing frustrating me are these weird post glitches that cause a few of my post to never appear at all.
Scioneer 2 years ago
"I have also not directed any personal attack towards you. "
Then what are these?
"You are obviously a childish obfuscator who again has failed to grasp the simplest concept"
"Here's another thing for you to stew over in your little childish mind"
"How sad some people's minds are so limited in that way"
"I can't rebut anything, so I'll just call your argument fanboyism. Gosh, I'm so good".
And yet, I've only stated how fanboyish you were coming off as.
Scioneer 2 years ago
I never said it can't be upgraded, As for the Larger Ship with a smaller profile" statement, the Nebula Class fits that description better than the Galaxy.
Scioneer 2 years ago
Here's another thing for you to stew over in your little childish mind; it has been proven that for long voyages of both exploration and maintaining the integrity of a military border, the emotional and mental health of the crew is vital. The company of the family of the crew combined with sufficient leisure facilities and decor (all of which the Sovereign lack) greatly improves the moral and mental stability of said crew. Stop your childish insults; they seem to make your arguments vacuous.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
I called you on being a fanboy because thats exactly what you're doing here. You either conveniently greater loss of life if one is destroyed, or find it trivial ( yet that, along with operating expenses, is why our own Navy is using Destroyers instead of Battleships to protect the carriers). As you have found, youtube limits the length of our responses, so no, I can't truly pick your arguments apart without posting multiple responses as you are trying to do.
Scioneer 2 years ago
crap typed too fast.
Scioneer 2 years ago
Funny you use that analogy, because what you are trying to argue through faulty logic is more insane than the belief that destroyers are more powerful than aircraft carriers.
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Aircraft Carriers do in fact rely on Destroyers for protection from certain threats. They in fact rely on an entire fleet called a "Carrier Group" for protection that consist of Destroyers, Frigates, and sometimes even Guided Missle Cruisers and a Fast Attack Sub or two.
Scioneer 2 years ago
"it has been proven that for long voyages of both exploration and maintaining the integrity of a military border, the emotional and mental health of the crew is vital. The company of the family of the crew combined with sufficient leisure facilities and decor"
However, If the ship is attacked or gets into a dangerous anomaly, their families are in as much danger as the they are. Do you think that is good for the crews emotional and mental health? Also, the E does have the holodecks as well.

Trowa099 3 years ago

Therefore, a GALAXY CLASS can easily be made THREE TIMES AS POWERFUL!
fpsBeaTt 2 years ago
Best ship ever. She was my "wagon train to the stars" growing up. The E is a far cry from the D. And its all Rikers fault! All he had to do was remodulate the shields and all would have been fine! lol
Alphanumaric 3 years ago 6
no you are wrong my friend it was Data's and Gordie La Forge because data asked La Forge a to put in the emotion chip that lore data's Brother had into datas head and because of that he couldnt save Gordie when Sorin beammed abourd the klingon ship it's all in the movie
thestopper1 3 years ago
You should watch ConfusedMatthew's review of the ending of the movie. Really it was Riker's fault because if the enemy found a way to penetrate the shields then why not try and remodulate them? It would have worked.
Alphanumaric 3 years ago 3
Yeah Rikers fault coz he says Deanna get everyone to the saucer section, he doesn't even attempt to eject the engine core which would've prevented the explosion which destroyed the star drive and forces the saucer into the planets atmosphere to crash land on Veridian III.
tubedavemc 2 years ago
Didn't the ejection system fail, or was that from another one of the "Reset Button" episodes where the Enterprise blew, but somehow through some space/time anomaly, it was saved later in the episode?
Scioneer 2 years ago
No. They don't even attempt to eject the engine core. Riker orders Deanna to get everyone to the saucer section. They make absolutely know attempt to eject the core. I remember this vividly from the story, of course the designers wanted a new ship, but they should at least have attempted to eject the core even if it didn't work, like in episodes like Cause and Effect which I think is the one you're referring to.

enragedmenace 3 years ago 4
they probably torpedoed it from orbit...starfleet can't let it fall into enemy hands!
trysill 3 years ago
It wasn't torpedoed, because it showed the ships leaving orbit without firing. They probably stripped it down of all the technology and just left the space frame and all the hull and bits. It was on an uninhabited planet.
wilc200792 3 years ago
They probably removed it at some point. That planet definitely was inhabited. It was the only other M-class in that system, and data had said that it was home to a pre-industrial civilization 250 million. I just watched this yesterday. Either way, I'm sure they had people going back to remove it. It was big after all. I'm sure they would need more ships or people.
stads24 2 years ago
They probably dismantled it instead of removed it. Considering what it went through during the crash, It might not have been able to handle the stress of lifting it off the planet and towing it back to a starbase, which might be why Picard said it cannot be salvaged.

Very nice tribute to the Enterprise D. My only critique is that the video came from Picard's perspective. I know it is his ship. However, every member of his crew with the exception of Geordi has sat in the captain's chair. The Enterprise D was "everyone's" ship, as we all felt helpless when she was distroyed.

hehe yea for sure, its not a very good episode but its a great addition to the growth of levar burton's character into the more assertive LaForge. I'm a Trek fan, but I'm a nix on the trivia, because it takes up too much time as I study a lot. As for hearing that Tasha and Ro never sat in the chair, that is news.
