rbar isnt worth it for a knif, its all the rubbish steels mixed together, use a crowbar, or leafspring, or coilspring, or even a file. well done tho !
Great video kidsmith10 I'm a beginning bladesmith, it is so much fun. One problem with how your hammering, always hammer 100% vertical, that way you will always have flat, not rounded surfaces on your billet. This will also help stop a permanent injury called tetnis elbow which can cause u heaps of pain in your elbow joint by the time you 30. If you swing out from the side of your body, it becomes risky and inaccurate. Once again Great vid. =)
what type of sword did you say you were making??? or did you say you were making something else?? and i must say...i'm gonna have to do alot of practicing to get any where's near the level you're at...good job mate!
Your doing a great job. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. most people around here just live to insult everything they see. Ignorance is bliss i guess.
A great easy beginer set up would be to get ur self a oxy-a Set up and a Nice sized rose bud, a hammer and a sturdy vise! you don't want to get too much money involved if your jus a beginner!!!
Oxy A is a Gas Torch setup. Has 2 tanks 1 oxygen and the other acetylene. a rose bud is a type of torch head used for heating up Stock for Bending or what have you. You can pick all these up @ just about any farm supply or home improvement store. But your still looking @ about $300 for a small setup. Assuming you already have a hammer, vise and a pair of channel lock pliers.
The only people who make this unsafe are the retards with no common sense (LIKE YOU!!!) who go out and try this with no knowledge about what to do and what not to do...
Oah son of a ....!! hey URnotsafe! if you are such a well blacksmith why dont you give us some prove huuh.. or cant you because you are a fat ass sitting all day enfront of the comp telling people they arent doing any good because you may had that when you were young dont you?
If you are having to break up big pieces then you no doubt have lots of "fines", the small stuff and powder left over. Don't throw it away. Mix it in a bucket with water and it makes a sort of paste like oatmeal, use just enough water to bind it together and it works just fine, add it to an established fire and you'll see how it goes as you work with it. Makes a nice "dome". Good luck!
Don't listen to the trolls dude, keep forging. You could be a little safer tho, so could I. This pansy ass URnotsafe guy will probably claim to be a "real blacksmith" in one or more of his countless F***ing comments, meaning he claims to blacksmith for a living. Don't listen to him because if he had a job he wouldn't have time dedicated to go on his little keyboard safety campaign. That must have taken hours.
Hey! GO FUCK YOURSELF YOU DEMOCRATIC SON OF A BITCH! This kid is doing the best job I have seen from a kid. He actually highly impressed me. As far as the tarp catching on fire, Yes that is a legitimate concern but don't bash the kid. The tarp is the only problem I can see.
Here we have the model specimen of your typical armchair ass hat. Not only have you gone out of your way to flame every single one of this dude's videos, you felt it necessary set up a seperate profile to do so. Perhaps you would prefer him to get rid of the forge, go inside, and sit on his ass and play xbox until he weighs 250lbs like all the rest of kids his age, at least that would be safe. You must live in a damn bubble man. Those who can, do, and those who can't, criticize. so STFU.
If you were old enough to have been forging longer than I have NOT been shitting my pants then you would be too old to know what a WIGGER was. Oh wait, here you are again in the middle of the day hammering away at your keyboard. Shouldn't you be forging (in your forging safety bubble)?
Tips ! hey Brandon , you should look at Mr. Hofi`s hammer tech! you will feel better and get more work done. Also If i was you I would wear blue jeans and boots .
ubertytasticstudios is right man...sure you got the safety glass but it's wise to wear an apron & gloves as well..umm..if you don't mind, where exactly you get that anvil?
is this your father's equipment? anyways good to have someone who is starting blacksmithing young, by the time your 18 you will be selling handmade knives for 300 bucks
are you using coal or charcoal, if you use charcoal try to get coal because charcoal is burned up so fast that i dont have proper time to use my home made forge but in a few weeks my forge should be deliverd with the coal and then im going to upload some forging vid's too
yes.. are you going to have a firepot? i will make a video on making a forge for you so check in about an hour because i would wrather talk to the camera......
Also please notice that my anvil is to high and should be up to you knuckle when you stand becise it and last night i build a proper stand

Way to go!
You've came a long way since the other video I watched of you smithing! Great job!
You probably know that you could save some charcoal by turning the blower off between heats. (but what do I know...)
I could tell that you're going to be one master blade smith from watching the other vids.
Soon, we will be purchasing high-dollar 'collector' knives from you!

HARDCORESKELETORN 2 years ago
No any quality Vise can be used as a anvil in a pinch. Its Garage sale season you may get lucky if you keep an eye out!
cavibird2005 2 years ago
I spent $100 and have a nice coal forge setup with a used cast iron sink and some cast iron pipe. The pipe was actually the most expensive.

Have you ever considered selling what you make??
P.S. To All of you who think this is unsafe...

Looking good KidSmith!
Have you tried using coal? You might like it better than charcoal- no fleas!
See if you can get your hands on some Pocahontas #3, best smithing coal available.
Looks to me like you are well on your way so nevermind the naysayers as you are likely ten times the smith they will ever be.
Keep at it!
DanOblacksmith 3 years ago
yes,
I got 1000 pounds free coal a ittle bit after this video, i have to smash it up a biut but it works GREAT

what do you use for fuel in the fire? bar b q coals or coal or wood?
griffin66441 3 years ago
charcoal

Still here, smithing in shorts, hammering wildly with no control, hope the tarp overhead don't start on fire....stick to potato guns...and "quadding"
I thought your were going to remove this nonsense, before someone follows your example and gets hurt?
