The colour black has various meanings not just death and evil. it can symbolize self confidence, power strength etc. While the fern or Koru can have meanings like new life, strength and peace within the Maori peoples of New Zealand. So these 2 interpretations combined you can see why New Zealanders would like the new planes. Good work Air NZ now you just need to make travel a bit more affordable.

Just saw the first black Air New Zealand plane on T.V. and I must say it looks AWESOME!!! It gave me a huge surge of pride. I am proud our national colour is black. and Air New Zealand looks great in black with the silver fern and koru.

@Rokkoko The jet is only going to be used for domestic runs in New Zealand and maybe might hop over to Australia too. It sounds like you think it'll be on all their jets, it'll only be on ONE of their jets and it'll probably be taken off after a while. It's a little bit unfair that Air New Zealand can't have a black jet celebrating one of their Rugby Teams because China doesn't like the colour.

@airnewzealand Horrible colour scheme guys, way too much black, almost like you are taking the all blacks for burial.

It would have looked way better if the underside was white and came up 1/3 of the cockpit, and then keep the top 2/3rds in the all black decor.

I'm all for pride in the all blacks, after all 2011 is the year of kicking ass, but the paint job is way too sombre. It is a symbol of our support, not a hearse to thier funeral.

Redesign it quick before they start spraying!!!
