Steve Kuhn in a marvelously inventive performance. He started playing in Boston clubs at 14 and was Coltrane's first quartet pianist before Tyner. He's had a very active career here and in Europe: one of jazz' greatest piano trio leaders.
This guy started early! He was written up as a child prodigy at the age of two and a half in the early fotties! He had a Big Band collection of over a hundred records and operated his own record player.
Find a good teacher who can give you the right understanding of theory and harmony.
Have fun and try to play tunes by ear and try simply to get the right melody, then harmonize, then change the melody then change the harmonization. Play a lot but always have fun.
"The Jazz piano book" by Mark Levine is a good text.
This guy's been around a long time. My loss for just discovering him. What a creative player! If you really what some great Steve Kuhn try his Maybeck Hall Volume 13 CD on Concord Records. Tremendous sonics in addition to his creative playing. Play this CD on a good system--you'll be blown away.
This is awesome

Steve Kuhn has got to be the most underrated artist in the real "Real Book". Play the Saga of Harrison Crabfeathers. Period.
