maybe the best punk lyrics of all time..."I'll be a pharaoh soon, rule from some golden tomb, things will be different then, the sun will rise from there, I will be ten feet tall, and you'll be nothing at all".....
@profd65 You do realize that Deep Purple had a HUGE influence on punk, right? And Rainbow, Blackmore's post-Purple band, also had a big influence on the punk that was emerging circa 1976. So why the hate?
I've never heard of any punk band acknowledge a debt to Deep Purple. That seems both arbitrary and dubious--like saying Led Zeppelin or Elvis had a huge influence on punk. Johnny Rotten wore a Pink Floyd t shirt with "I hate" handwritten above it; I seriously doubt whether he liked DP any better.
Why my "hate"? I don't like it when people come to punk videos only to pay homage to mainstream rock.
@profd65 Where do you think the "anti-establishment" sentiments of punk came from? Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer, among others, all helped to form a rock culture that deviated from the "peace and love" of the late '60s. Punk just amplified and demystified that culture and the sound that came along with it.
And as far as playing goes, listen to some of Blackmore's riffs and tell me that they don't sound, in many cases, similar in style and speed to the main riff of "Sonic Reducer."
@profd65 John Lydon was a big fan of Hawkwind a hippie anti establishment band and an altrernative to Pink Floyd with Lemmy of Motorhead fame on Bass!
I didn't know he was a fan, but I'm very familiar with Hawkind; I used to have one of their albums. After Dead Kennedys broke up, Jello Biafra said he wanted to form a band that sounded half like Hawkwind, half like Dick Dale.
@profd65 Who give's a fuck about your opinion on these bands in the first place? Your probably a pathetic asshole who has nothing better to do so just shut the fuck up and enjoy your fucking band already, sheesh.
I just saw another video of another Cleveland band called "Alternate Reality". Yep, THAT band. I came back here to see this again and get that bad taste out of my mouth
Quote: "You jacked-off whores' mutts think it's really going to be titty-pie to get another punk to dethrone YOURS TRULY the Punk of the Month but let me tell you prick eaters and the REST of my fellow punks somethin', I Ronald (subhuman) Binder will continue with these pics to keep the Honored Title title of your first and greatest Punk of the Month! Great classic song... story goes that Joey Ramone heard them... got them to come to NYC and got them the gig at CBGB's.. gotta luv the way early guys helped each other out.. from letting bands crash on their couch/floor.. to helping them get shows
@landsharkgo80 , it was cool, they played stuff like the eagles and doobie bothers on the radio, and then you go to a club and see something new, that's totally different and radical, like this, it was great!!!!
It was great to see them go full punk so quickly upon leaving Cleveland, and easily upstaging The Damned making their first US appearance at CBGB. It was easy to see the American punk bands such as this, especially from NE Ohio, outperform the Brits easily. I liked quite a few Brit acts but they were often not good live. Peter Laughner wrote this song. I miss him. Steve licked my neck at the Allen Theatre in Cleveland, then got shy and said, "Just wanted to see what you taste like."
true story my mom dated stiv on and off for 3 to 4 years and its kinda badass because i got a signed EP of young, loud, and snotty from all the members with a little heart message that reads "heres to licks from my number one chick" yea be jelous :)
i saw them right after elvis died-next night possibly? stiv made a comment that "now elvis is a dead boy too-and some guy yelled "hey-if it wasn't for elvis-you wouldn't be up there!
Sei un grande come lo è chiunque cerca di tramandare alle nuove generazioni anthem che come questo sono la storia della musica. Io dal canto mio sono felicissimo d'essere cresciuto fin da piccolo anche a pane e dead boys :)
Saw these guys three times in Toronto (at the Crash & Burn, the New Yorker and the Horseshoe tavern) Loved those guys - the best of the punk rock bands.
My fav line at the end of the night at the Horseshoe after they played only 7 or 8 songs - Stiv screams "Thanks for your money suckers!" and they walk off the stage. (After they had come on an hour later than they were supposed to.) Love those guys. Still listen to some of their best songs - including this one.
